(More customer reviews)I'm using this tool for sculpting wood with "Kutzall" type burrs. I have been using a Foredom flex shaft tool for years but was looking for something with a little more guts and power for mass stock removal. The Makita did all this and more--in additon to its raw power I also find the rigidity of the tool helps make even fine cuts more controllable. Not shown in the illustration above is the multi-position removable side handle which adds greatly to the ease of controlling this workhorse. Over the years I have owned many Makita tools, and this die grinder, like all my other Makitas, is a superb tool and a great value.

Makita's 1/4-Inch SJS Die Grinder combines 6.6 AMP power with comfort and motor-protection features for longer-lasting grinding performance. The GD0800C is engineered with Makita's innovative Super Joint System (SJS) to protect the gears for longer tool life.

6.6 AMP Power with SJS to Protect GearsThe GD0800C is powered by a 6.6 AMP motor that delivers 7,000 to 28,000 RPM with soft start for smooth start-ups. The electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load, and a variable speed control dial allows the user to match the RPM to the application. Labyrinth construction protects the motor with a complex set of channels, prohibiting dust and contamination. In addition, the protective zig-zag varnish seals the motor and bearings from dust and debris by creating a barrier under rotation. The GD0800C is engineered with SJS, an innovation from Makita that protects the gears by automatically disengaging the motor should the grinding wheel accidentally catch or bind.
Comfort and ErgonomicsThe GD0800C weighs just 3.5 pounds and is built with comfort and ergonomic features for extended use. The slender double-neck aluminum gear housing is designed for easy handling, and the slide switch is positioned on the small circumference barrel grip for easy operation.
