There is a $200 dollar "Additional" Shipping cost for this item.....$219 sounds fantastic for this product but it is very misleading since you will be charged a total of $235 for shipping and handling for a 3-5 day delivery, making the total cost of the product $454. Glad I caught it before I clicked the Purchase button.

Attic Aire Whole House Fans - 54301 24In. W/Shut Wholehouse Fan Review

Attic Aire Whole House Fans - 54301 24In. W/Shut Wholehouse Fan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've put in three whole house fans over the years. I installed this one a few days ago and am very pleased. I deviated from the instructions in two ways to reduce noise. First, I never follow the advice to put the fan in the middle of the house. I put it as far away from the master bedroom (no children) and around as many corners as possible. In this case, after finding I had an unusually tight-fitting garage door I put it in the ceiling of the garage. My door fits so tightly I can see no light around any edge, so the fan will produce a vacuum in the garage and pull through the door to the house if blocked open. That put it even farther from the MBR and around more corners than anywhere else in the house. Second, I stapled dark gray foam pipe insulation, the kind available in 6' lengths at HD or Lowe's, around the bottom and outside edge of the wooden fan frame. I cut one of the lengths of 1" insulation in half lengthwise and wrapped it over the bottom and up onto the side, maybe an inch, all around the base of the fan's frame. That prevented direct contact between the fan's box frame and any ceiling joist. I installed lumber between the joists under the frame and the fan sits on that (plus the teeny normal contact point on the center joist). I did not bolt the fan down (noise), but just put 1x4 lumber around the edge to keep it from going sideways. The 1x4 touched the foam also, on the sides. Since the fans pulls itself down as it pushes air up, floating the fan within the confines of the 1x4s around the edges holds it place nicely. With a separate 12-hour timer I can go to be with it running and it shuts off after things cool off. The fan is quiet enough that you can talk in a normal voice in the garage while it is running on high speed. By the way, it makes no difference where you install this thing as far as effectiveness goes. A vacuum in the house is a vacuum in the house. It will pull nicely from wherever you open a window or door. Installation took 5 1/2 hours plus about 1 1/2 for the timer because I had to fish an insulated wall and because I bought the wrong kind of electric box for the timer. If you use a timer, buy an electric box for "old work." It is made to install in the sheetrock, not to be nailed to a stud and will go much faster. Be sure to block open any door that can slam before you turn the fan on. Doors will slam shut HARD and maybe break something. I thought this fan might be too small, but it's not. When they tell you it's good for a 1500 sq ft house, it doesn't really mean anything. This house is considerably bigger than that. The size of fan has more to do with how many doors and windows you can open and still get enough air movement. With this one, you can get a very gentle breeze with one door plus one sliding glass door (we have no bugs). I really like my foam invention. This fan is noticeably quieter than my previous fans. You will need a helper to install the shutter. You can't hold it up and install a screw at the same time; at least I can't.

I am completely satisfied with this purchase. The motor was easy to install and it only took about 20 minutes to install. I was about to get a roofer to install a new attic fan for around $350 but decided to see if the motor was available. After taking my old motor off, I did a search on the part number and was able to find the replacement motor with shipping for around $50. I also received the motor earlier than promised. .

A universal mounting hardware kit comes in the box with each motor to replace older models. Do not attempt to buy a new unit and pull the motor out; the mounting has changed. The conduit (flexible cable) can be used from your previous motor simply by un-screwing it and putting it on your new motor. Lomanco motor comes with Universal mounting kit to replace the flat plate (with 3 mounting holes). Lomanco motor does not have the flat plate sandwiched in between motor laminations. If your motor mounts with a belly band around the motor (5" Diameter motor), this motor should work fine. If you need a longer shaft take a look at motor #PD144, it has a 4" long shaft with similar mounting characteristics. Replacement fan blade # 14393 available. 1 Year manufacture warranty.

Cool Attic CX2500 Power Attic Gable Mount Ventilator with Galvanized Steel Construction and 14-Inch Blade Review

Cool Attic CX2500 Power Attic Gable Mount Ventilator with Galvanized Steel Construction and 14-Inch Blade
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was surprised at the number of reviews/people that bought the 1600 or 1500 instead of this one. I can't say enough good about it. Let me first say that chewing 1.4 Amps less over the long haul with a PSC motor is a big winner (not to mention the better warranty). I had to custom make my own gable shroud to mount fan - no problem there. Adding sound damping barrier foam to metal standoffs on shroud and to motor mount has made it very low resonance and reasonable sound level. It's quiet enough but a little more work could reduce it more.
Note, I'm using this in Arizona! I have the shutoff temp set for 87deg F. If you let it, it'll run from 7-8am to 11pm (or longer). Too late for me - so we put it on a 15A timer circuit. Works like a champ in that it gets AC circuit power on from 7am to 9pm, of which the only time that varies in the summer is the turn on time (not turn off, it never reaches 87F before 2am.) That's not the fan's fault - it's my need for quiet rest that is the override.
Is $20 more expense going to be recovered with lower energy bills over the other models? That verdict is still out, but I'm guessing a resounding yes.

This is a well made fan that mounts easily and comes with it's own thermostat. Once mounted, set the thermostat (I set mine @ 90 degrees) and you're in business. Now my AC doesn't run as much as it did before installing the fan. I installed a wall switch to turn the fan on & off, so that when I am going away from home for a few days I can simply turn the fan off & save some electricity.

Broan 355BR 1200 CFM Roof Mount Powered Attic Ventilator, Brown PVC Dome Review

Broan 355BR 1200 CFM Roof Mount Powered Attic Ventilator, Brown PVC Dome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased the Broan 355BR 1200 CFM Roof Mount Attic Fan several weeks ago. We needed the motor, fan, and temp control units to replace those parts that had been broken due to bad installation by the builder (or one of the many subs) of our home. The contractor who installed the original fan had screwed down the grounding screw with an impact driver until the screw was protruding out the backside of the temp control unit and in the path of the fan blades. It didn't take long for the blades to become notched and broken by the screw until the motor seized up. Since we have replaced it and installed the parts correctly, the fan has worked great; it has brought the temp down in our 2nd floor considerabily. The temp control is working like it should and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. A local electrical supply offered to have the parts ordered for us at nearly double the cost of the whole unit at Amazon. Shipping took about 5 business days (with free super saver shipping). Even the local home improvement stores didn't carry these and it would have taken 3-4 weeks and about $50-75 more than Amazon's price.

Broan 350B 1050 CFM Roof Mount Powered Attic Ventilator, Brown PVC Dome Review

Broan 350B 1050 CFM Roof Mount Powered Attic Ventilator, Brown PVC Dome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Broan 350BK to replaced an older attic fan that had burnt out over the summer. The Broan 350 was significantly lighter than the unit being replaced which made handling the unit on the roof a lot easier. The construction and materials used, particularly the base metal flashing, are quite robust and I like the 'brushed' look of the PVC plastic dome.
The installation itself is quite simple for anyone with modest carpentry (I highly recommend using the template which comes printed on the box) and electrical abilities. If you do choose to do it yourself, I recommend installing an isolation switch (available online or from your local hardware store) just prior to the fan so that it is not energized year round. If you have not done any roofing work before, I highly recommend getting a pair of adjustable roofing brackets and a long 2" * 10" scaffolding plank or board to provide a stable work area while working on your roof.
The unit has worked great since installation and there is a substantial difference in the air temperature in my attic, particularly in light of the high temperatures this summer.
One thing to note: unlike most older fans, this attic fan will run until the air temperature in the attic is 10 degrees below the set point. I have mine set to ~110'F so it will start to run once the attic temperature hits 110'F and continue to run until the temperature has dropped to 100'F.

I ordered this motor to replace one that was getting tired in our attic exhaust fan. I was looking for motors on Amazon and several that were close seemed to be from Electric Motor Warehouse. In my case , I had to find what I needed based on the old motor as there are no data plates on the fan assembly. Hot Tip: Go to the Electric Motor site First where you will find endless choices and find what you need, Then come back to Amazon and plug what you need into the search box and bingo, you're on your way! It would be helpful in a case like this if Electric Motor had a "drill down" search using motor specs -hp,volts,rotation, etc, but with a little patience you'll find what you need. This turned out to be a perfect replacement. Very happy with it.

Unit looks like it should have done the job. Unfortunately, it is shipped in the original manufacturers packaging, inadequate for UPS shipping. There is no kind of padding/restraint in the box, so the sheet metal mountinging flange was severely bent, beyond what I felt could be repaired easily to assure waterproof installation. The top was also dented, from shipping no doubt, and it could not have been repaired easily, either. I shipped the unit back the day after I received it! Broan 35316 1600 CFM Gable Mount Powered Attic Ventilator Review

Broan 35316 1600 CFM Gable Mount Powered Attic Ventilator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, if you are skeptical of the merits of installing an attic fan let me tell you that you such a unit will make a noticeable difference on the comfort levels of your home on warm and hot days. By keeping your attic cooler you prevent tramped attic heat from soaking down into your living spaces, making your house cooler as a result.
Now onto the review: this is a very powerful fan! I installed on a piece a plywood with a circular cutout to be sure that my gable vent was thoroughly sealed from air leakage. This little bit of extra work also made it easier to drag into position in my cramped attic and mount to the wall, as the plywood prevented the unit from settling in between joists in the attics unfinished floor.
It was a sunny day when I installed so the attic was heating up fast. Sweat was pouring off me. Once powered up, however, the rush of air felt chilly and it was only a matter of minutes until the attic temps dropped to the point that I felt like I was sitting outside with a nice breeze, not in a cramped, hot, dusty attic.
If you are faced with the option, get a unit with a thermostatic switch. You'd be surprised by how often you can forget about turning the unit on or off. The thermostatic switch takes the work out as it makes the unit come on at a specified temperature and switches it off once the attic is 10 degrees cooler than that temp. I highly suggest wiring for two switches: a master on/off switch and a thermostat override switch. It is more work, but it can give you fine control over operation. It also allows you to test the working of the unit if need be. You could even replace the override switch with a timer switch. That way you can set how long you want to the unit to run for, in case you easily forget about things like this unit running on override.
The only downside (and it is a minor one) is that I'm surprised about the noise level this unit produces. When the unit is on and you are on the floor below the gable where it is mounted there is no question of if the unit is on or off. I do not know how loud the realm of this style of attic fan is, but compared to a solar powered roof-mounted fan I've installed there is a big difference in noise produced. That being said, however, the noise level while noticeable is not obnoxious.

I replaced a failed, 7 year-old, Master Flow unit in my detached garage with this. It has a smaller fan and only 4 blades(the Master Flow had 5). It moves a lot of air, but the noise is considerably louder than the Master Flow. I don't think I would put this on the roof of a house due to the noise factor. It costs about $50 less than the master Flow, and seems well built, but if you're going to ventilate your house attic, I would stick with the Master Flow for lower noise.

This does the job of keeping the wind from sweeping through my barn when the fan isn't running. If it was spring loaded it would be perfect. It flaps in the wind and makes a little noise, but my barn is far enough away from the house that I can't hear it. Just wanted to let folks know not to use one of these near where you sleep. It might be load enough to keep some folks awake. Functionally it is great though. It does what I need.
