McCulloch FG6000MK 5700-Watt 13 HP 338CC Portable Generator Review

Average Reviews:

The McCulloch 5700 has a well built frame and an included wheel kit (from Northern Tool). The engine is a near identical Chinese copy of the Honda 340 GX 11-hp engine and runs smoothly and fairly quiet. It is not as quiet as a true Honda but more so than a Briggs. Fuel economy seems to be good too. It starts with one or two pulls though I usually run it several times a month. Workmanship seems to be good. Instructions are understandable but suffer from poor grammer. It carries only a one year warranty where most others have two. I'm not too worried about the engine as I am told that Honda parts are interchangeable. The generator part I'm not too sure about but so far after about 30 hours of operation with fairly heavy loads, there has been no problem. The price was right but I won't know if I had made the right decision until some years down the road. I still haven't checked the AC frequency or voltage under load but will do so the next I use it. I do wish it had automatic voltage regulation but that is only found on more expensive units. Anyway, at this point I feel I got a good deal and the unit has exceeded my expectations.

The McCulloch 11 HP generator with wheel kit and front panel has a 5-gallon fuel tank for 7 hours of runtime when half-loaded. It's powered by an efficient 11 HP OHV engine with an easy pull recoil starter. This generator shuts off the ignition when dangerously low oil levels occur, and it's enclosed in a compact protective roll cage frame. A conveniently located on/off switch provides easy control of this generator, which provides a maximum of 5,700 watts. 10-inch pneumatic wheels and a collapsible handle provide mobility. You'll also appreciate the large muffler that helps restrict noise from the generator. This generator is backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

Brady TLS2200 Handheld Thermal Transfer Printer - Up To 2"W Review

Brady TLS2200 Handheld Thermal Transfer Printer - Up To 2W
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using the Brady TL2200 for a few months now. Unfortunately I have to use it for my job. Here are the main reasons why I don't like this printer.
1. Cost. It's really expensive - and if you think the printer itself is expensive, chew on this for a while: the labels I print use a spool of adhesive label "paper" (Brady Part #PTL-43-439) that is 50ft long. These spools of labels sell for around $90 a piece, which in my opinion is ridiculously expensive.
2. Ribbon. The ribbon cartridges that this printer uses are 1- also unnecessarily expensive, 2- very inefficient, 3- not recyclable. Each ribbon cartridge costs about $25(Brady Part #R6010). Each cartridge has two spools, one full of unused ribbon which rolls across to the other spool as it gets used for printing. The problem with this method is that the majority of the ribbon itself never actually gets used at all and is wasted. And what's worse - if, like me, you're printing off multiple labels with a gap between each label (for cutting) - the ribbon actually rolls/transfers spools along with the label for the gap. In other words, if you have a 2 inch gap between labels, you are wasting 2" of your ribbon for every gap your labels require. One more thing about the labels - the ribbon is very thin, and I found many spools where the ribbon had wrinkles in it. When you print labels that use wrinkled ribbon, you are left with a very sloppy looking label that has streaks across it.
3. Here's a rundown of my general gripes with the printer itself:
-The on/off button is very difficult to reach. You have to turn the printer upside down to get to it. Why they couldn't have just put this switch on the top or the side of the printer is beyond me.
-Currently, as of September 2009, this printer ships with a cable to connect it to a computer - but the cable has a serial port at the end. Most computers made within the last couple of years don't even have serial ports anymore because everything is USB. I called Brady about this and they said they are considering changing the cable to USB for future models. In the meantime I'm stuck having to buy a $30 serial to usb adapter cable. Oh, one more thing about the serial cable. It connects to a port on the bottom of the printer - yes, the bottom - and there's no channel/grove on the bottom of the printer to allow the serial cable to run freely out and away from the printer. So you're left with a very wobbly printer that's sitting on top of the cable. It's just like sitting down to a very wobbly table at a restaurant.
-Possibly my biggest gripe: For my job, I have to print off, on average, 30 of each type of label I need. Since each of my labels are 4.75", I often run out of either ribbon, label paper, or both in the middle of a print job. Whether you're printing using the LabelMark software (included with the printer) or just the printer itself, when the machine runs out of anything it CANCELS your print job. This means that if you're printing off 30 labels and it runs out of ribbon halfway through, you have to replace the ribbon, count how many labels you did print, then start a new print job to get the remaining labels.
-There are issues where labels don't print clearly, and I even had an issue where only half of a label was printing. I was told by Brady to upgrade the firmware on the printer, which I did, and that seems to have fixed the problem.
4. LabelMark PC Software. The LabelMark software is finicky at best. The user interface is fairly simple to grasp, but I have a lot of issues with it - far too many to get into here, but I'll sum it up by giving the LabelMark software itself 3 out of 5 stars.
5. Product Availability. A specific job I worked on required the use of Blue colored label paper spools. I placed the order with Grainger (a supply company that orders directly from Brady) for 60qty of these spools back in June. As of today (mid-September) I still haven't received any of the blue labels. I called Brady directly to find out what the problem is. Their rep was sympatheitc and explained that "ever since we moved our manufacturing down to Mexico, we've had all sorts of issues with keeping products in stock." And despite my order having been placed three months ago, they don't expect to have my blue labels in stock again for at least another month.
6. The good news. Numerous times I've had to contact Brady's tech support. So far, each person I've spoken with has been patient, professional, and actually helpful. I've also never experienced a long hold time to reach someone. And, the best part is that they all speak clear English.
The bottom line- this printer is very, very poorly designed, as are all of its required parts (label paper, ribbon, cables, etc.). The folks who designed it apparently didn't take cost or common sense into consideration.

Steele Products SP-GG120 1,200 Watt 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator Review

Steele Products SP-GG120 1,200 Watt 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great service from Amazon; poor performance from the product. After searching for reviews of this particular generator, and not finding any, I decided to take a chance and try one. Sounded like a good buy for the price. I use a generator several times a year hunting, camping, fishing, etc. so I needed something I could depend on. My older Coleman Powermate was beginning to show signs of wear and was very noisy.
When this arrived (and sooner than expected) , I removed it from the box, put 10W-30W oil in it, put just a small amount of gas in it as I intended to run it dry for transport, and pulled the starter rope. It fired right up on the third pull and I thought "OK. Maybe this was a good deal". The outside was all molded plastic but felt very solid for plastic. Then I noticed that the green "pilot" lite was not lit so I searched in the owners manual to see what the problem might be. Nowhere is the pilot lite mentioned so I have no idea if it is supposed to be on when generating electricity or not but it is green so I assume it should be on to tell the user that "all is working as it should". I plugged in a trouble lite with a 100 watt bulb. Nothing. I used the other plug. Nothing. I pushed the circuit breaker. Nothing. I put a volt meter on it and found, you guessed it, nothing. I tried the 12 volt output with a voltmeter. Nothing. Now I was 6 days away from leaving on a three week hunting trip and needed a generator. I called Amazon on a Saturday evening and was told that I would need to call a different department on Sunday morning. I called and was immediately given a credit refund including the shipping. That was the bright spot in this transaction.
I have ordered another one to see if it I just got a lemon and will update this when I get it. There was some evidence that I may not have been the first owner of this unit and it may have been re-furbished. The top of the box had a lot of extra tape on it, one of the tools included was separated inside the box and the plastic bag the generator was wrapped in was torn as if it had been removed and then put back inside.
UPDATE: 09/22/2010 - I received the second one today, took it out of the box, filled it with gas and oil. Took several pulls to get it started but once it started, it ran and did what is was designed to do - provide electricity. Now, we will see how long it runs.
Hope this helps any of you looking for a portable generator. Thanks Amazon for the quick response. A+ for customer service.

DuroMax XP8500E 8,500 Watt 16 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit And Electric Start Review

DuroMax XP8500E 8,500 Watt 16 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit And Electric Start
Average Reviews:

The 8500 has identical spec's to the PowerMax XP8500E, but buying this one saves a C-note.
As a test the elderly recipient of this generator feebly pulled the cord to start the motor. At first it looked pointless as the effort failed to build up any momentum. The motor turned about one and a half strokes, but incredibly, the motor fired up on the second tug. The electric start worked fine, but if the battery happens to lose too much charge, starting the motor by hand proves easy enough. It's also possible to jump start it just like a car.
Delivery requires coördinating with a shipping company that only hands over the product to a warm body. For the customer accustomed to finding items dropped off at the stoop, that sucks. It also conflicts with having the item sent to a site other than home. The driver had no qualms, though, about loading the generator onto the back of a pick-up which was nice. Still, instead of waiting for a delivery which I had to transfer to another location,I could have just as easily bought a generator at the hardware store. Amazon used to conveniently leave items for me where ever I needed them delivered (Kansas, Michigan, Virginia). Now, I have to take time off from work to meet a trucker and complete the delivery myself. Gifts don't arrive as a welcome surprise anymore because the recipients have to go through the same rigamarole.
It has ample 120 volt receptacles to plug portable GFCI's into for running heavy duty extension cords through the house. This'll provide some immediate comfort while the electrician installs a transfer switch, a 30 amp inlet and sub-panel. He or she will also piece together a 10-4 SO extension cord to connect between the generator's 220 volt outlet and the sub-panel's inlet.
Don't scrimp on the budget for the set up with the transfer switch. It makes plugging in a generator convenient and safe. You can hook up the generator yourself any time you want to later.
--tick-tock--October 2008, it still runs. It has only a few hours running time, though. A generator mechanic pointed out that these cheap products have short lives without regular attention, so change that oil! $700 genny, good deal, would buy from same again.

Quite Diesel Unit, smooth operation. I use this as a back up for our home when the rural power fails. Runs my 220 pump and provides lights and power for small appliances. We have an all electric home. Of course it won't handle a 20kw furnace or Central A/C, but runs a whole house fans and small fans for the wood stove. Electric start and fuel economy make this unit great for the price.
*******
One year after owning this generator it only had 10 hours service and we needed it to keep us going after a major storm took out our power. 10 hours into service, the rocker arm bolts broke and the engine shut down. The engine is made in China and the company has been contacted many many times for repair parts. I was willing to pay for the parts but they have not provided any opportunity to get them. I have been trying for 4 months and have not been contacted to order the needed parts. The quality of workmanship is terrible! The customer service is non-existant.

I am now the proud owner of a $1200.00, 300 lb. Door stop..

I even tried to contact the engine manufacturer in China, but they have little or no presence in the US. Guess I'm just out of ruck!

When Bubba Comes to Town! Power and grace in one unit! Wow! Wait until you read about Bubba! The All Power APG-3202 is one of those rare finds...a product so far beyond the competition in terms of special little features that we could spend an entire page just listing them, but we won't. However, because we're so excited about "Bubba" we want to let you know about some of his special features. First, Bubba comes with a 10 HP, air cooled, heavy duty diesel engine, designed and certified by one of America's leading testing labs to be one of the most durable ever tested. Second, the company wanted to make Bubba a "Quiet Giant" and so they added a special layer of sound absorbing insulation to reduce engine noise and cabin resonance to the point that, at 70 dB, the APG-3202 is one of, if not the quietest portable 6500 watt diesel generators on the market today. Next, the company understood that Bubba would be spending a lot of time outdoors and so they used stainless steel nuts, bolts, washers and even cotter pins, along with double coating the galvanized steel, to reduce the chance of rust ruining its wonderful finish. Next, the company added an avionics alternator to develop the stable electrical flow, rationalizing that consistent performance of an alternator in an airplane is a lot more crucial than one in a car. Finally, the company added a big security hook on the top of the unit so that you can run a chain through the loop to make sure that Bubba doesn't go and live at someone else's house. If that's not enough, Bubba also has a battery operated electric start system for ease and convenience, will operate about 11 hours on just five gallons of diesel fuel, has two 120V and 1 240V outlets, handles on both ends and stainless steel wheel rims. Produces 42 amps at 120 volts and 21 amps at 240 volts. Why do we call this unit Bubba? He weighs 377 pounds. What else would you call him?

I purchased a DS7200Q (DuroStar) generator from Maxtool (the trademark holder) in January 2010. By mid-Feburary I was having to order replacement parts. By April, I found metal and paper in the oil crank case. I took photos of the metal fragments and paper and sent them to MaxTool. They suggested I have the generator evaluated by a diesel repair shop. The repair shop found the connector rod was sheared. Clearly a defective machine, but MaxTool refuses to replace the engine or refund me. All of this happened before the generator even logged 50 hrs. Now I have a $1000 diesel generator that is useless, plus the cost of the "evaluation". They do not have any concern for customer service, nor do they stand behind their products.

We're dealing with alternating current here. Ask yourself how the "make-it-yourself" advice is going to synchronize those sine waves. Not saying I recommend this particular product mind you. The Honda kit is cheaper and it's made by Honda.

Using two Honda EU2000i generators to feed backup power to your home or business during an outage, the GenTran 30 Amp 8-circuit transfer switch doubles your power. When you're not using both generators for standby power, you can use them separately for tailgating, camping or boating. To use during an outage, just bolt on this bracket to one of the generators, connect the parallel cables to both generators, and connect a 30 Amp 10 gauge 3-wire cord (NEMA L5-30) from the parallel kit to a transfer switch or power inlet box.A 30 Amp breaker is provided for protection against generator or appliance overload. The breaker limits the total output of the unit and protects the wiring between the generators, the parallel kit, and the appliances in your home or business. A bolt-on, streamlined design minimizes vibration, offers convenient use in damp environments, and stores easily. The resin frame and enclosure ensure long life without rusting. All the hardware is included for easy assembly in minutes. It comes with a 2-year limited warranty.

McCulloch FG7000MA 7,000 Watt 13 HP 389cc Portable Generator Review

McCulloch FG7000MA 7,000 Watt 13 HP 389cc Portable Generator
Average Reviews:

I've owned one of these for about two years. We live in a rural area east of Seattle, and the winters have been getting worse each year. Right after a very bad storm that left us without power for nearly a week, I found this at a local Costco. It is very heavy, but easy to assemble the few parts not already attached (like the wheels and handles). It is better, though, to have someone help out, and *make sure* you're not doing this in the dark when it's raining or snowing! It's that wiper blade syndrome.
The operation is all pretty straight-forward. Check the oil, fill it with gas, go through the starting sequence. You have to remember, though, to always turn the fuel valve just underneath the tank to the "on" position (and turn it to off when you're done), and to pull the choke out before you use the pull starter (and to push it back in when it's running smoothly, which isn't long at all).
I would have given this five stars, but for a few of things that are related to operating it, not to its ability to deliver the goods. Product designers, take note: 1) The pull starter isn't real hard to use, but in a bit of an awkward place making you pull it with your body just a little twisted, 2) mine didn't come with a battery for the key-starter feature and that battery has proven to be hard to locate (still don't have one since the pull-start is "good enough"), 3) it is noisy, so I located mine behind a small utility shed 50 feet from the house - not so bad, now, but don't ask my neighbor what she thinks about it, 4) most gas cans aren't that sophisticated, so the location of the filler hole for the gas has to make up for it - and it doesn't. I've spilled a little gas over the top of the tank each time. It really should be closer to the edge, making it easier to sneak a full can's spout into the hole, and keeping that gas away from the hot stuff after it's been running, 5) there should be a "1-2-3" placard on the outside of this in a very visible place showing how to start it up. We use it a 2-3 times a year (maybe more, now), but simply don't keep that stuff in our heads, and shouldn't have to. My wife, in particular, could use that...and that battery I can't find.
Other than that, it's solid, reliable, runs for over ten hours on a full tank, and provides enough power to handle the refrigerator, a couple of small oil-filled heaters, a pretty big TV/cable box/speakers and the phone system/internet. You have to turn off something to run a microwave if all that stuff is running, but this thing didn't cost $3K, either. Oh, and the fabulous yellow color makes it easy to find in a snowstorm or cat-5 hurricane.

The All Power gen. is an acceptable substitute for the more expensive name brands in the same category. It starts easy and has plenty of power for the average camper. I'm not sure I'd want to hear several of these in a campground but out in the woods it wouldn't bother anyone and delivers what it promises.
I give it four stars because according to the description of this product it came equipped with a volt meter. There is not a volt meter and this was the deciding factor for us when we chose it. The dealer responded and said the decription was in error. Hopefully it has been corrected.
Over all I would recommend this product if you need power occasionally and don't want to spend huge money. I've seen them locally for twice the price.

When I unpacked it, I just put oil and fuel in the engine, followed the simple directions and it started right up. I quickly opened the choke and it "hunted" for a minute before settling down as it warmed up; that wouldn't have happened if I'd gradually opened the choke as it warmed up. No problem, I could've plugged in an electrical load right away and it would've settled down. I found it will continuously power a 1500W heater without complaint, though obviously that's not recommended. It's got plenty of reserve, though, at its rated 1000W capacity. The whole thing's made in China, including the engine that looks to me like a copy of an OHV Tecumseh. With it running outside under load I can hear it all through the house, sounding about like a push mower. It would be a bit loud for running at night in a quiet campground. My intended use for it is for an emergency heat source for a pet in case of a winter power outage, so noise isn't an issue for me. I think this is a dandy little generator for light duty, at a very good price.

Extech 382260 80 Watt Switching Mode DC Power Supply Review

Extech 382260 80 Watt Switching Mode DC Power Supply
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked my Extech 382260 at Frys Electronics for a very reasonable price. I had hoped for the perfect bench power supply until... I turned it on and took it for a ride.
PROS
Small, cutely designed, lightweight, 4-digit LED panel meters, output control with rotary switches instead of potentiometers.
CONS
Major lack of precision in the settings of output voltage and current limit.
The 4-digit panel voltmeter displays two digits after the decimal point. And with the rotary switch one should be able to set output voltage with great accuracy, right? Wrong! Each click of the rotary switch increases the voltage by leaps of 0.12 to 0.29 Volts.
Here are my results (in Volts) of turning the voltage knob 8 clicks: 0.01, 0.17, 0.28, 0.39, 0.52, 0.63, 0.76, and 1.05. It was impossible to set any values in between.
Setting over-current protection looked like this: 8 clicks of the current setting knob resulted in the following milli-Amp values, 5, 27, 34, 43, 50, 64, 66, and 75. Again, forget about setting any value in between. Then, at about 12 Volts output I used Fluke 117 to test how effective the over-current protection really was. The Fluke registered the following max. values of the output current:
-- Protection set at 75 mA - current peaked at 326 mA (initially, and then went down to the set value),
-- Protection set at 204 mA - current peaked 1083 mA,
-- Protection set at 752 mA - current peaked 1641 mA.
CONCLUSION
I would suggest the following improvements in design: 1) move the pushbuttons to the outside; away from the knobs - it will make it little easier to operate both at the same time, 2) move the knobs a little further apart - it will create more room for large fingers, 3) make one click on the control knob increase/decrease the voltage or current by smaller value, preferably 0.01Volt and 1 mA per click, and the increase should grow with acceleration of turn (like in Boston clock radios); otherwise it would take forever to change a couple of Volts, 4) over-current protection needs to be perfected; if the spikes of current come from an output capacitor, then it needs to be placed before the limit control circuit.
The design of Extech 382260 is very much on the right track, but the resolution and over-current protection need to be reingeneered. I have a heavy 40-year-old HP power supply with two pots for coarse and fine adjustments that allow much more precise output resolution.
I really wanted to like this power supply. I especially liked the idea of using rotary switch to control the output voltage. I liked the 4-digit displays, the three ranges of voltage/current, and the universal AC supply voltage and how lightweight it is. However, for my needs (hobby electronics) the lack of precise voltage resolution control and major spikes of over-current were unacceptable.

All Power America APG3201 6,500 Watt 10 HP Diesel Powered Generator With Electric Start & Wheel Kit Review

All Power America APG3201 6,500 Watt 10 HP Diesel Powered Generator With Electric Start and Wheel Kit

I wasn't sure what I would get with a price that seemed too low to believe, but figured I would take a chance. I needed to find an alternative to my small gasoline powered generator which is now over ten years old with minimal usage. Gas is such a pain, as I stock up for hurricanes and end up dumping it back through my cars to get rid of it before it goes bad; diesel is very stable with some additives, much safer to store a dozen-or-so gallons long term, and provides more energy per gallon.
I had never heard of All Power before, but it seems they make a variety of products--hopefully an "up and coming" that will be around for a long time if they can establish a rep as a company with quality and service which it appears they are trying to do. So far, I am extremely happy with what I have gotten for my money. Shipping was a breeze and they placed it right where my wife told them inside my garage until I got home. No instructions for basic construction of adding wheels etc but not really needed either for anyone with basic mechanical ability. The manual seems extremely well written for a Chinese product--I was initially impressed by that.
After the first startup (for which I needed to use the electric start), it starts manually on the first pull every time! Fit and finish quality appear excellent and no shortcuts on construction. Nice features include a fuel tank gauge, run-hours meter, 120v/240v selector, and electric start; 3 and 4 prong twist power plugs were included too. The 6-wheels (2 pneumatic + 4 small rollers) make it pretty easy to move around, though there is definitely some weight associated with a generator set this large. The engine is made by Changfa, generally recognized as an excellent Chinese company with a real understanding of quality control. As an emergency generator, it will take a long time to put real serious hours on it--it only remains to be seen how long it would stand up to continuous operation if needed; hopeful that proper maintainance will yield long service.

You won't get arrested for stealing this diesel generator! Ok, you need a big rig to keep the lights and appliances burning. You've looked around and been shocked by some prices exceeding $5,000! You know that a diesel generator means longer life and greater fuel economy. You just didn't know what unit to buy...until now! We're a new company and we really wanted to make a statement so we went to the All Power America factory and asked for a special deal! Boy, were we surprised! They offered us the APG-3201 6500 watt peak, 5000 watt diesel generator at a price so low we almost couldn't believe it. Don't peak yet! Wait until you read hat you get for your money! Here we have an open air diesel engine mounted in a square steel frame. (Square steel is important because it's about 40% stronger than tubular steel and will therefore withstand all the engine vibrations while still maintaining the unit's integrity). Next, when you get to a larger generator, you must have electric start unless you are really strong. Some companies offer the starter, but you have to then go out and buy a battery. This unit has both the starter and the battery included. The APG-3101 will operate for about 11 hours on just four gallons of diesel fuel, has two 120V and one 240V outlet, includes a mobility kit with pneumatic tires and a fold down tine and easy to read gauges, outlets and controls. Now you can look at the price! Such a deal!

Honeywell HW7500E 9375 Watt 15 HP 420cc OHV Portable Gas Powered Home Generator With Electric Start Review

Amazon has this generator for the lowest price on the internet and much better than locally (once factoring in free shipping which normally costs $170 and tax free which is generally $70 or 7% in Indiana).
Shipping is awesome although it was out of stock for a while. ABF shipping is great. Item arrived intact via smaller truck after 1 week. ABF called my cell phone and arrange for convenient delivery time (signature required). Driver called day of delivery for 30 min. warning that item is coming. Driver hand-trucked 278# generator which is in original Honeywell box without any crating down a 100 foot long driveway into my garage for my wife. This is not the norm as free shipping generally means curb-side drop off and it's up to me to dolly this baby into my garage. My wife gave the driver a nice tip and I called him personally to thank him.
I ended up cutting the box to get the generator out due to heavy weight. I used a dolly padded with a thick towel to lift generator on its side to put on the wheel kit and 2 back legs with enclosed nuts/bolts (no washer needed or included due to specially designed bolts and nuts with washer flare). The tires are solid rubber so nothing to inflate or to go flat (nicely design), and are held on the shaft via washers and cotter pins. The handles fold nicely and bolted on with same type of nuts/bolts. Nuts and bolts are metric so get out you metric wrenches or sockets.
Honeywell HW7500E generator is a beauty. Red, metal fuel tank holds 6.5 gallons with fuel gage and metal gas cap. Black accents and red engine are easy on the eyes. I used Stabil fuel stabilizer from Walmart (1 oz per 2.5 gallons) to allow storage of gas in the tank so it's ready to go with less gunk build up and easier start later. Generator shipped without oil. I did not use the enclosed free 1 liter of 10W30 oil or free tiny funnel, and used instead full synthetic 10W30 oil (5 liter jug) with long neck funnel from Walmart. I recommend pouring the oil into a clean disposable plastic cup and then using this cup to pour the oil into the funnel to reduce drips, waste, and mess. It took a full quart of oil.
I installed a Reliance 30216BRK manual transfer switch kit (bought on Epay for $_1_8_0 shipped--more at Lowes) and used the included 20 foot 14-30 cable from the 30216BRK kit to hook up the generator to the switch (generator is placed outside the garage of course to avoid carbon monox. posoining) when generator is needed. This switch and generator provide power to 50 gallon electric hot water heater (3000 watts), 2 fridges (1600 watts), 2 freezers (1600 watts), 6 ceiling spot lights, and 2 ceiling fans to family room. Obviously, the water heater will be switched on and off just for showers (once existing water in the tank cools) to reduce the load otherwise. The generator does have an idle control, stutters now and then when the water heater kicks on, and does not get any louder than a 20" push gas lawn mower. I can hear the generator barely in the house at night but not during the day. Generator is 10 feet from the house's brick wall, outside the garage door which is closed on top of the generator cable.
Starting is easy with plastic cheat sheet numbering 1 through 7 steps with electric start. 12v/14Ah sealed lead, tractor type battery started the generator with first push of the switch. This battery can be charged with a "smart" car battery charger if set to 2A mode for 6-8 hours. It can be replaced at Walmart or Lowes in the lawn tractor section. Stopping the generator is as easy as 1) unplug, 2) let run 3 more minutes, 3) push the button off, and 4) turn the fuel switch to off (also clearly stated, step by step, on the attached plastic poster).
Overall, this is an excellent generator for the price of $999.99 due to 1) 3 year warranty (1 year parts and labor, other 2 years parts only), 2) Honeywell brand (not the cheap Chinese junk like Powermax, Pro-Grade, Buffalo Tools, Blue Max, Chicago Tools, Eastern Tools, and numerous other aliases--best clue is the chincy 1 year warranty with them sending you the parts and you do the repair yourself or locally at any lawn mower/motor repair shop whose cost may or may not be covered by them), 3) 7500W continuous, 9375W peak watts (Chinese generators have exaggerated wattage ratings so beware), 4) included free accesories (25 foot L14-30 cable to 4 outlets which costs around $60-100 on Epay and even more locally), 1 quart of oil, cheapy funnel, 12v battery, step by step start/stop cheat sheet, toll-free help line with fast pickup by real Americans, and flat-free wheel kit.
I do wish that the fuel tank can be 10 gallons instead of 6.5 gallons, included funnel has a longer neck, easier access to fill oil, less noise is always a plus, included cable is standard 14-30 male to 14-30 female to allow easier hookup to transfer switches--it already has 4 outlets on the generator so why do we need 4 more on the generator cable?, outlet covers to keep them dry in the rain (I plugged them up with baby-proofing outlet covers at Walmart), and actual bumper to bumper 3 year warranty.
Despite these mentioned weaknesses, this generator is still a great buy at Amazon for this price.

This turbine is well built. All around one of the best I have tried for low wind's. There is a video on you tube with what this turbine look's like out of the box. Just search wind max turbine HY-400 on you tube. Power output is excellent for low wind. All around 5 star's. I am a electrician these can be a bit tricky to install and I suggest that you have a electrician wire them for you. The rest of the install can be fairly easy.
