Makita HM1810 Breaker Hammer with AVT Review

Makita has done it again! I bought this tool based on my history of good results with Makita tools. I was not dissappointed. This HM1810 chews through concrete like butter, and with very little vibration felt in the handle. It seems quiet for what it is doing. This is positively a heavy hitting "secret weapon," if you work in concrete.

Tough on concrete, not on you. Makita's hard-hitting HM1810 70-Pound Breaker Hammer is equipped with Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT), an exclusive counterbalance system that reduces vibration. The result is more efficient hitting on the concrete and less vibration in the tool -- and the tool user.

15 AMP PowerThe HM1810 with AVT is engineered to be the most efficient breaker hammer in its class with a 15 AMP motor that provides 1,110 BPM and 63 joules of impact energy with less vibration. In addition, it has an automatic brush cut-off system that protects the commutator, and a warning indicator lamp for longer tool life.
More Work, Less VibrationThe HM1810 is equipped with AVT, Makita's exclusive counterbalance system that reduces vibration for more efficient hitting power. The breaker hammer also has lower noise at just 107dB. The HM1810 weighs 70.6 pounds, and has large side handles with an easy-to-operate switch control for better control and comfort. For added convenience, the HM1810 has a 16.4-foot cord, and accepts the popular 1-1/8-inch hex steel shank for a wide variety of breaker hammer accessories.

Its superior efficiency, versatility and comfort make the HM1810 an ideal breaker hammer for landscapers, pool installers, electricians, plumbers, masons, remodelers, and general contractors seeking a best-in-class industrial quality 70-pound breaker hammer. Makita Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT)Makita has adapted the science of earthquake engineering into power tools with Makita's Anti-Vibration Technology(AVT). AVT is an exclusive innovative counterbalance design that provides the professional a power tool solution with up to three-times less vibration, less noise and more efficient power than the competition. Seismic research has developed this damping science to absorb shocks and protect buildings from the devastation of earthquake vibrations. AVT dynamic damping involves reciprocating engineering where a mechanical damper, effectively a counter-balance weight, provides an equal and opposite anti-vibration force that puts an equal mass directly opposite the point at which the striker bolt delivers the impact joules to the breaker steel, carbide bit or recipro saw blade. As vibration is eliminated, power is efficiently increased. Without the dissipation of power through vibration, more of the generated energy in the motor can be delivered to the tool bit itself.About MakitaMakita is a worldwide manufacturer of industrial quality power tools and offers a wide range of industrial accessories. Bosch 11304K Brute 15 Amp 1-1/8-Inch Collared Hex-Breaker Hammer with Cart Review

I have used this tool to demo a flagstone/concrete patio and about 80 feet of sidewalk. I first tried the sledgehammer/prybar route, but that was too slow and tiresome. I got the job done by myself in less than 8 hours with this tool. It is quieter than gas/air powered hammers, but I still wore ear protection. It is easy to operate and not very fatiguing-the most tiring part is picking it up and setting it down. It is heavy, but I could lift it into the trunk of my car by myself. With 2 people lifting it is a breeze and the cart makes transporting it very easy. I ran it hard all day and it never complained- and this was a pretty beat up rental tool. I highly recommend this tool if electricity is available-it is much more convenient than gas and compressed air hammers. Plus it is powerful and durable enough for all but the biggest demolition jobs.

the HM0810B is the best, lightweight hammer on the market. 2900 blows per minute, with a weight of only 11.7lbs. This is the hammer that should be used for chiseling, chipping and scaling, NOT the HK1810, which should only really be used for removing tile and plaster.

Bosch 11335K 35-Pound 1-1/8-Inch Jack Hammer Kit Review

Bosch 11335K 35-Pound 1-1/8-Inch Jack Hammer Kit

I own a bosch 11316EVS SDS MAX demo/chipping hammer for 3 years. and rent a bigger yellow BRUTE from time to time. However I am always looking for something that has more power than 11316 but less weight than the BRUTE yellow beast. This 35lbs Jack fits in perfectly. I break through some 6-8inch concrete steps with rebars which I gave up with my 11316.
it has A LOT more power than the "rotary hammer drill" style demo hammer.the bit is a lot bigger than the sds max and it breaks the concrete in bigger chunks while the 11316 is more like chipping though.
it is about half of the weight and a lot easier to control compare with the bigger brute yellow bosch although they use the same bits. but if you use it in tight applications or lots of horizontal chippings, this might be too heavy and big. you can still use it in an angle for a long time which is very hard with the bigger yellow brute. in terms of power, I do not see huge difference between this one and the yellow bigger one in the field. the bigger one does have more power from the book but since it is so heavy and most of times i could only use it in a vertical position and hit with its own weight, it slows down the breaking/chipping(you need to adjust the hitting angles).
haven't get a chance to try the clay bit yet.
hope that helps.
