(More customer reviews)The gate installs easy with few problems,it programs easily and the manual is well done.
One major problem I'm having is after I installed it it was working fine until I tried to adjust the limit reed switches because of a little over travel in both directions.
Both motors started to go in full extension of the arm. I can not make the motors go in reverse. I tried to manually screw in the arms half way but they only go out in one direction. It may have something to do with the magnet getting out of alignment but the magnet is not visible it's undercover.
THEIR IS NO CONTACT NUMBER FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND NO FEEDBACK FROM EMAILS.
This unit is made in China and sells through on line suppliers with no technical knowledge.
I would give this opener 5 stars if it had technical support, but I'm afraid I must return the opener.
If some tech out their would call me I would appreciate it.

Mighty Mule FM502 Automatic Gate Opener for Heavy Duty Dual Swing Gates Review

(More customer reviews)As a technician that installed and has supported (repaired) a Mighty Mule 502 for over 2 years, I have experienced the following:
About 11 months after installation it stopped working. Tech support was excellent (approx. 24 hour email turnaround) in helping diagnose a problem with the main control board and gave us a return auth(RGA number). Upon installation of the new control board we noted one gate/motor didn't function. They asked us to return it, we did.
They refused, however, to warranty it. They stated we had 'fried' it somehow (either applying wrong voltage/current?). This gate is over 200 feet from any power source other then the 18v AC wires required to charge the 12v battery, how we could have damaged it is a mystery. Barring a lightning strike, the only way it could have been damaged was because of the faulty control panel.
Now it is about one year later and the other (slave) gate/motor isn't functioning. My interpretation of this is that either these motors only have a 2 year life expectancy, or the control board problems shortened the life of one motor while burning out the other. Either way, GTO/Mighty Mule will not cover it. At well over $300 per unit (not including labor) this effects the overall cost (true/operating cost) quite a bit.
I would check the reliability/warranty-support of other manufacturers before ever buying another Mighty Mule (GTO) product.

Mighty Mule FM350 Automatic Gate Opener For Light Duty Single Swing Gates Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this item to replace another Mighty Mule gate opener that failed when it was struck by lightning.
This unit wants to jam on a regular basis when using the remote control. If you try to open the gate, then close it too quickly, it jams and you have to get out of your vehicle and manually reset the unit. I plan to call GTO and get the unit replaced or upgraded under the warranty.
Having said all that, I have nothing but praise for Amazon and the seller that sold me this unit. They did exactly what they promised when they promised.
Would I recommend another GTO gate opener? Sure; I probably got that one-in-a-thousand units that has a glitch or some other minor problem. Their units are much more competitively priced than other brands of gate openers and their written and video taped instructions easily walked me through the installation of my first-ever gate opener.

Mighty Mule FM500 Automatic Gate Opener for Heavy Duty Single Swing Gates Review

(More customer reviews)Sorry but the Mighty Mule failed me very soon after the 18 month warranty ended. The gate began to intermittently fail to open unless I pressed the remote 5-6 times so I called MM support. The support was very ineffective and focused on either the problem being 'low power',although I explained I had just installed new batteries for the unit and remote controls, or the control board was bad; and because they don't do board repairs, my only option was to purchase a new control board for hundreds of dollars. End of support.
Being a retired computer technician and amateur PC builder, I decided to solve the issue myself; complicated by the lack of schematics (circuit diagrams) or detailed parts information on the Mighty Mule support page. I ended up replacing the 'mini' 12v 10amp relays on the control board with a heavy duty automotive type 12v 40amp relay w/pluggable wiring harness.
Ola! After a year of messing with this problem, my gate opener opens reliably again.
I feel this was a defective control board with underpowered relays and should have been a'factory recall' issue. MM should have offered a replacement boards to customers instead of expecting us to spend hundreds of dollars to purchase a new board 'compatible' with all MM 500 Gate Openers.
