I have used a similar design of this ladder for about 15 years. It would appear the design has been purchased and re-purchased a number of times with changes/improvements being performed through the process.
The best thing about this design is the one-handed operation of the lock bar that allows the release of the joints by lifting the bar. Can't beat the ease of use. Once you learn the right steps to open the ladder, it should only take a few seconds to have the ladder fully extened.
I purchased this for a replacement of my old ladder, that is still functional, but one of the plastic feet broke, and I was unable to find a replacment part. Also I have the 12' version and opted to upgrade to the 16'. I use the ladder to climb roofs and as I am getting a little older the though of a few more feet above the roof line appeals to me.

***Take Note***
The photo of this product is incorrect. The product actually has a stabilizer bar at both ends of the ladder. The posted photo only shows a stabilizer bar on one end. I am an insurance adjuster and use the ladder to climb roofs. The stabilizer bar is a nuisance to try and "step" around when getting on steep roofs, and the second stabilier bar prohibits the ladder to be used in a "double-pull" application where the ladder would have to stradle a ridge hip for access to a higher roof elevation. The only way this can be used for a double pull is if the ladder is used as an A-frame. In my opinion this reduces the versatility of the ladder. I have used this design of ladder for almost 15 years and have had good luck with it, but the new design may cause me to rethink continuing use for the application I use it for. It this is not a concern for you, then no worries.
***Shipping***
Ladder came bent. Of course, out of my own neglect, I did not review the items before I removed the plastic wrap. I did not notice the damage until I tried to install the stabilzer bar. I would have to assume that in shipment the ladder was dropped onto the corner of the side rail and the space that the stabilizer bar would insert into was bent (pinched) in. Also the hardware to mount the stabilizer bars came hand-tightened. A bolt must have vibrated loose and was lost in shipment - I should be able to replace at a local hardware store.
