JET DC-1100 / 708626GK 1100 CFM Dust Collector Review

I have been running my DC-1100 for about 6 months now. (My previous reviews mysteriously disappeared.) It is a great machine right out of the box, but I did do one modification to improve it: I added a strip of 1/4" x 3/4" foam insulation in the groove around the center ring that seats the top bag. Without it, the top bag leaked small quantities of fine dust, but not enough to foul the air. Running off 110 volts is a real advantage if you don't want to add more 220 circuits to your shop.
I bought it mainly to use with my Jet 5 hp, left tilt table saw (reviewed separately), but have since made fixtures to use with other tools. It really keeps the table saw clean. I also purchased a Woodstock International W1044, 4" to 2-1/2" adapter which allows me to connect it to my old shop vac hose for use on the floor and my router table. This machine is so quiet that my old shop vac now sits in the corner collecting no dust!
It really is quiet - making not much more noise than the average window air conditioner. I often leave it running between cuts and setups, just because I hate to bend down to reach the switch. It would be nice if Jet could mount it higher on the machine, like on one of the legs that hold the bags.
Other than the switch location and the easily fixed dust leak on the top bag, this machine approaches perfection. It will be a real improvement to your shop, especially if you are using a screaming shop vac for dust collection now!

Grizzly G0441 3 HP Cyclone Dust Collector Review

Grizzly G0441 3 HP Cyclone Dust Collector
Average Reviews:

I placed an order for this unit direct from Grizzly. They included a free gift in the order . I chose a set of 115 titanium bits. The bit set arrived first. The metal box that contained the bits was low quality with a interfering mechanisms and a catch that didn't line up. Despite the cheesy metal box, I've used the bits several times now and they work well.
This made me concerned about the dust collector. My fears were warranted - the box showed up and was beat up. It had some minor crushing and a couple of tears and one good sized hole. The pallet onto which it was stapled had one of the bottom members torn off leaving bare nails sticking out.
The box had an extra piece of cardboard taped to the top which appears to be because the box was so beat up that it needed augmentation. The box looked like it had be opened and taped shut several times. Notice this: Grizzly shipped a 425 lb shipment in a cardboard box stapled to a pallet and it is not bolted down. I'm not an expert in this area, but other manufacturers have sent me such large items crated, bolted down, and with steel bands holding everything in place.
Most troubling, was that inside, the collector parts were haphazardly placed in a somewhat random fashion with pieces of cardboard taped to parts to try and prevent them from damaging one another during shipping.
It didn't work, there was a substantial gouge in the side of the blower housing that was created by a nearby bolt.
Aside from all this packaging/shipping/customer service nonsense, I was impressed with how the unit appeared to be designed. The gauge of the steel was heavy, the welds look good, and the manual is excellent. The finish on the replacement intake barrel was good. The finish on the original was fair to poor (rough surface where air would be flowing).Update: after all the hassle of replacing the intake barrel I got the machine assembled and running.
I measured the noise level with my meter (keep in mind I have a small shop of about 20x12). It's reading about 87 dbA in operation. Before purchasing, Grizzly claimed it was 83 dbA at one meter (I called and asked, this isn't published). I am satisfied with this 87 dbA at 2 meters. I think it's reasonably close to what they had told me.
The collector worked great - for a week. I then started hearing major squeaking from the motor when shutting down the machine that lasts for nearly a minute! After spending more time disassembling the motor w/ technical service on the line to trouble shoot it, we determined the bearings in the motor are bad.
I'm now an official believer in all the hoopla about buying American motors. It is such a huge pain-in-the-($#((*$# to replace a motor of this size, I'll never mess with a second rate import motor again.
I called back about getting the motor replaced and they told me they can't replace the motor w/o escalating this problem to their home office. The reason, again, being that I hadn't noted the exterior chinks in the packaging on the bill of lading at the time of delivery. In essence, it seemed to me they were saying "if you don't note package damage on the exterior of the box at the time of delivery, your warranty is void". This is despite the fact that I did take digital photos to note it's condition before opening the box and sent them to both Grizzly and Fed-Ex freight. Fed-ex sent out an inspector who seemed to agree with me that both Grizzly and Fed-Ex should take responsibility. As first observer, this looked like more of a problem on Grizzly's end than Fed-Ex.
Update: the home office called stating they would pick up the defective motor, repair it, and send me the repaired motor back out. I found this objectionable because of all the previous hassle and additional downtime and asked that they send me a new motor before requiring me to send the old one back. Now waiting for them to get back to me. This motor is 8 feet in the air and probably weighs over 100lbs. It is a major undertaking to disassemble the dust collector and send it to them. I had to hire two additional guys to install it in the first place because I don't have a fork lift.
Update 2: although the motor sounds like it has a the bad bearing and considering that I'm a light user of this tool, it is still operating reliably a few years after purchase.

DELTA 50-720 1-Horsepower Dust Collector 650 CFM Review

DELTA 50-720 1-Horsepower Dust Collector 650 CFM
Average Reviews:

I bought this dust collector because my shop vac was having a tough time keeping up with my Jet contractor saw. It appears this is the replacement model for the AP400 with a couple nice upgrades. First the finer filter bag. So far the 1 micron bag seems to be working well for me. I have not been noticing any dust being kicked back into the air. I like the see through plastic bags. This makes it very obvious when it's time to empty them. The unit is attractive and the build quality is reasonable, not great but then again it's the bottom of the line unit.
Being this is my first real dust collector I don't have much to compare it with but there are things I would think could be better. First off the 4 foot hose is useless to hook up to anything. It's just way to short. Why delta couldn't have included a 6 foot or even 5 foot hose it beyond me. The included 4 foot barely hits the floor, let alone is suitable to attach to any machine. The assembly directions are hard to follow. I expected this would take about 20 min to assemble. After misassembling the base twice and dealing with getting all the screws aligned properly I wasted over an hour and half that Delta can't give me back. Once I got it assembled it made a strange sound and I realized the metal grate over the motor housing was bent in shipping. I bent it back and it ran fine. Delta also shorted me a could bolts which I picked up locally.
The operating instructions are also a joke. They basically say if you're not familiar with this machine go ask your instructor or boss. Not that helpful for the home hobbiest who I would think it the target for this unit.
650cfm appears to be enough for my table saw, planer and router table provided I attach only one machine at a time. If I had the budget or the wiring I would have opted for a higher cfm, but this appears to be sufficient and the price is right.

Shop Fox W1666 2 HP 1550 CFM Dust Collector Review

Shop Fox W1666 2 HP 1550 CFM Dust Collector

After looking at many of the others in this marketplace, I found the Shop Fox. After closley inspecting the quality and workmanship vs the others, given the price differential I felt that there was not much difference between them.
I purchased this unit. It was well packaged, and all the parts were included. The hardware package was complete with more than enough bolts, washers and nuts for the job. Assembly instructions were clear, and it went together in about an hour. The only annoying thing was the straps for the filter bags which unlike the Delta machine, do not have springs to create the tension needed to clip them shut. However, after a bit of fiddling, I was able to get them to work.
Operationally, it is very effective, moves a lot of air, and really keeps the chips and dust down. I'd recommend using a trash trap ahead of the blower assembly to catch larger bits of wood, especially if you're using it on a tool that makes larger chips and chunks.
It's noisy, natually, but works well, and I'm very satisfied with the performance. I'd also strongly suggest the use of either blast gate switches or a remote 220 switch. Walking over to turn it on and off is a pain. Shop Fox makes a remote switch for about $45 which is GREAT! Just add it to the cost of the unit. You'll be glad you did. After 6 months of almost daily use, it's working just fine.
Enjoy. BTW, I also have a SF 10" Cabinet saw that I simply love...undoubtedly the best bang for the buck out there.

DELTA 50-760 1.5HP 1,200 CFM Vertical Bag Dust Collector Review

DELTA 50-760 1.5HP 1,200 CFM Vertical Bag Dust Collector

I was going to get the Delta 50-850 but this one includes standard 1 micron bags so I decided to get the 50-760 instead. Set up took about 15 minutes including fumbling with the bag and the exterior band strap. Delta includes an interior flexible band & a band strap to mount the bottom bag with. I suppose out of habit I used the band strap but the flex band seems a lot easier and I will probably switch bag mounting methods next time I empty it. The unit runs a lot quieter than I had imagined and seems to have more than enough power to collect the dust from my shop. With 2 clear chip bags 1 micron collection and the cfm rating this machine is hard to beat. I do not see having to upgrade to anything larger.

Help protect your health with the Delta 50-760 1-1/2-Horsepower, 1,200-CFM Dust Collector. Thanks to one-micron filtration bags, a powerful motor, replaceable dust ports, easy maneuverability, durable construction, and more, the 50-760 provides dependable dust collection for a clean work environment. And even with its powerful suction capability, this dust collector is surprisingly quiet.
Keep Your Shop Safe and CleanWith two four-inch replaceable dust ports and an upper filter bag that has the ability to filter out pollutants measuring just one micron in size, this dust collector efficiently extracts fine, invisible dust particles from the air. Much airborne dust--including wood dust--contains chemicals that can trigger severe allergic reactions in humans. And long-term exposure to dust can cause a measurable, sometimes permanent loss of respiratory capacity. This is why it is so important to protect yourself from dust that can lead to health problems down the road.
Powerful Dust Collector Goes Where You GoDesigned to work as efficiently as possible, the 50-760 features a 1.5-horsepower, 3,450-RPM, 120/240-volt, 60-hertz, single-phase induction motor, which moves up to 1,200 cubic feet of air per minute. And without compromising any of that power, this dust collector has a unique, volume-saving vertical design.
So you can clean any work surface or area in your shop, and to make storage a snap, the 50-760 sits on heavy-duty casters, a sturdy steel base, and four glide wheels to allow for easy maneuverability without floor damage. For added convenience, the motor housing can be mounted with the dust ports facing up or down.
The 50-760 measures 35.5 x 20.0 x 18.0 inches (WxHxD) and weighs 95.6 pounds.
Quick-Change Bags Simplify Dust CollectionIn addition to the one-micron filtration bag, this collector uses transparent, plastic chip collection bags that make it easy to see when it's time for a bag change. For added convenience, two snap-in bag rings are included for quick and easy bag changes without cam-over-lock clamps.
What's in the BoxMotor and blower, support frame, one-micron filtration bag with sewn-in bag ring, two six-mil plastic chip collection bags, one snap-in bag ring, two four-inch intake ports, four swivel-caster assemblies, cord, plug, and instruction manual.
