(More customer reviews)I bought a Smartpool Nitro Wall Scrubber to replace a broken Dolphin unit. It is a great little robot with some nice features and only a few minor issues. Note that there are 3 products in the Nitro line: the Cleaner, the Wall Climber, and the Wall Scrubber. The Wall Scrubber (this product) appears to be the latest addition to their product family, with the most features.
First, the good:
1. Price - much less than the similarly-functioned robots I've seen elsewhere.
2. Thoroughness - It does a fantastic job of cleaning the entire pool, stairs and water-line included. The dolphin did a good job on the pool floor and the water-line, but it never got up on the stairs, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the Wall Scrubber up there. It didn't get the top step, mind you, but the bottom 2 steps were vacuumed.
3. Speed - it's much faster than I remember the Dolphin being, and normally gets the job done in about an hour for our 20'x30' pool. I think this is due to the way the Wall Scrubber's tracks work - in addition to movement, the tracks kick debris directly into the front- and back-filter intakes, so one pass is usually all that's needed for a complete clean.
4. Convenience - removing the filter in the Wall Scrubber is a cinch! There are two little latches that are quite easy to depress, and the filter unit lifts out of the body. Again, comparing this to the Dolphin, I MUCH prefer the Wall Scrubber. The Dolphin's latches were klunky and became stuck regularly, and the filter bag needed to be held in place with some little brackets.
5. Weight - nothing much to say here except that the unit is pretty light.
6. DIY repair. I haven't yet had to take advantage of this (I've only had the Wall Scrubber for 2 months), but if the robot does break down, it's good to know that all the parts that I might need are available from Smartpool. When my Dolphin broke down, I made the decision to junk the unit instead of sending it off for an expensive repair.
Now for some minor issues:
1. It seems to have some trouble with smaller rocks. Leaves, twigs, dirt and debris are all sucked up with no issues, but I do occasionally find some pebbles that the unit didn't get.
2. Leakage on removal - one of the features I was REALLY looking forward to was the forward drainage port. While the port works well, the filter's intake doors (front- and rear-) invariably get blocked open by a twig or something, and smaller debris always escapes when I remove the unit from the pool. I wish the springs holding the doors closed were a bit stronger.
3. No power-line swivel - the robot works well, as detailed above, but coiling the cable is tricky because it gets twisted during use, and must be unwound. The power-line IS kink-resistant, true - but it still gets pretty twisted.
4. NO CADDY. This was a little bit of a surprise for me, because their other Nitro's come with a "free" Caddy. Not so with the Wall Scrubber. I assume this is a cost-savings measure, but it's still a chore to have to carry the robot, with its cord and the power unit, back and forth from my storage area.
So, overall, I'm happy with the Wall Scrubber, and am glad we bought it. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good, user-maintainable, robot without 2G's to burn on a remote control system.

Poolvergnuegen PVN 2X Suction In-Ground Pool Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)The cleaner works very well. It wanders around the whole pool sucking up everything. It doesn't get tangled or stuck. I have had it climb out of the pool and suck air into the pump causing it to have to re-prime. This was with it adjusted to the higher end of the 12-14 rpm recommendation. Slowing it a little means it never climbs out. No sound even on a quiet night unless you are swimming with it. Available for about $300 less then the price here - just Google it. This is the only cleaner my pool guy will recommend and I will be recommending it to anyone who asks.

Robokleen Plus Above Ground Pool Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this pool cleaner for two years...going on my third summer. I had the "lady bug" type before for my 12 X 28 Doughboy pool. This Robo Kleen is 100% better. You drop it in and turn it on...the rest is done auto-matically. The pool is sparkling clean real quick. The machine has a cloth-type filter that is easy to take off and spray clean. My filter is still as good as the first day I got it and it has cleaned hundreds of times. Also, by running this cleaner and not the big filter that was running the "lady bug", I see a big difference in power usage.
The one draw back to this machine is when you remove the machine from the water. Its heavy for a few moments untill the water drains out...probably about 50 pounds. Its no problem for me, but too much for the wife or kids. Just be aware. Overall I'd rate my happiness at about 90% with the product. The price, at about $500 with S/H, was the biggest obstacle but after you see how well it works...the money is at least well spent. Happy Swimming!

(More customer reviews)I bought this pool cleaner to replace a Polaris that worked (poorly at best) off the suction line of my pump. This unit works off of an electric transformer that steps the voltage down from 110 to 12 volts. It's pricey but thoroughly cleans my pool in 1 hour. It takes the load off the pump by working off an electric line and capturing even fine particles in a fine mesh, cloth bag. The bag is cleaned after each use - takes about 5 minutes. I did have some problems wuth the first unit I purchased; but the customer support was excellent. After the first repair failed to solve my problem; the manufacturer replaced the unit. The 5-year warranty also eases any worries regarding future problems. All in all, it's the best pool cleaner I have ever used.

Hayward Phantom Robotic Pool Cleaner w/o booster pump Review

We just had ours replaced after basically every part of it (hose, housing, wheels, jets) had broken - our pool expert (NOT a Leslie's employee pushing the Phantom) confirmed that the issues we had occur widely among his other customers and shared some other horror stories.
We also had similar problems to Franklin (see other Phantom review), where the Phantom would get twisted up and generally stuck in anything even closely resembling a corner...
We ended up switching to the Polaris 380 instead. We had a Polaris model at our last house and were really happy with it, based on initial results I'm very happy with our decision.

You have to have the pressure on the intake just the perfect amount for the temperature of the pool to get it to work. With filters and pool lines, they are never the same pressure so it quits working. It gets caught in corners and on stairs. Also the hoses get "memory" twisted. I look out my back window constantly seeing my expensive Barracuda just sitting there while the neighbors have a beautiful pool with a cheaper cleaner just making laps around their pool.

Dolphin Diagnostic Robatic Pool Cleaner Residential Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased my Dolphin Diagnostic four years ago at our local Leslie's. I had a Kreepy Krauly which worked fairly well but, since my pool has only one skimmer inlet, the surface wouldn't get adequately skimmed when the KK was being used (even with the KK skimmer plate which allowed for some skimming while vacuuming). While we don't have many trees in West Texas, any that are shed seem to end up in my pool ;-)
I have been completely satisfied with the Dolphin. In the four years I have owned it I have needed only two repairs -- the first about 2 years ago was done under warranty and required sending the Dolphin to a repair station. This winter my Dolphin stopped moving and I tracked (pun intended) the problem to a worn drive track. I was able to fix this myself after ordering the correct parts.
While not having many trees, West Texas does have a lot of dust and wind. Prior to the Dolphin it was a battle to keep the pool clean but now it remains sparkling. I don't know why the previous two reviewers have had such problems, but mine covers the entire pool without difficulty. You do need to pay attention to the flow in the pool since that can affect the Dolphin's cleaning pattern. I tend to run it at least every other day throughout the year since we don't close our pool for the winter.
I've noticed two fringe benefits to the Dolphin. First, the agitation from the upward stream from the pump (especially when it is at the top of its climb of a wall) helps move surface debris and the skimmer is more effective. Second, since the collection bag microfilters the water, I only have to backwash my filter about one tenth as often as previously. This saves time, work, water, and chemicals.
Four years ago I paid about $850 for the Dolphin. This is my 5th season of use. Amortized at less than $200 per year this has been a great investment for me. My only regret is not having spent the extra money for the model with remote control. Sometimes there is an area - usually at the shallow end - that I want to clean first.
O.K., you do have to clean the bag but that is not much of a chore. I just dump the debris in the trash and then spray the bag with a hose to remove the dirt. Actually, there are disposable bags available and I did purchase some to use in the winter but they are rather expensive so I prefer the bag cleaning route.
I have recommended the Dolphin to friends and I would buy another.

Nitro Wall Scrubber NC71 Review

However, the customer service was helpful to help diagnose the problem and asked me to ship it to Dallas for repair. It cost me $18 to ship from Houston, and the robot was returned in one week under working condition. Thanks to its two-years warranty instead of 90-days. If there is one complain, it would be that they should have a contracted repair service in every major metropolitan area, such as the 4th largest city, Houston. Because of the repair, I reduce its rating from five-star to four-star.
_______________________________________________I had used Polaris pool cleaners for years and found it has the following disadvantages: high electric bill from running a water pump; small bag capacity with frequent cleaning; frequent expenses for buying expensive replacement parts or repairs; and moderate durability (last about 3 years and then cannot be justified for repairing and forced to buy a new model with a trade-in rebate).
Thus, I switched to electrical pool robot which cost significant less by avoiding running a big water pump and has large bag capacity. In addition, it filters fine particles thru its bag and reduces the load and the frequency of cleaning pool filter compared to Polaris'.
I had tried three electrical pool robots: Aquabot Turbo T; Smart Pool's Kleen Machine; and Smart Pool's NC71 Nitro Wall Scrubber, by the sequence of usage.
I have used a digital timer with photocell to automatically turn on/off the robots. The timer works directly for the power supplies from Smart Pool. However, to make it run for Aquabot, you need to buy a different power supply (cost about $150), but I got it free from the store I purchased.
I found there are some advantages and disadvantages of the three robots:
1. Aquabot Turbo T: This is the most expensive robot I used, cost about $1,300 including taxes. Its main advantage is having large bag capacity so that you don't need to clean the bag as often as Polaris'. It comes with two large bags to filter different fineness particles. Its major disadvantage is it works for only about 18 months and need a replacement of motor which would cost about $900. Thus, I decided to try the other robot.
2. Smart Pool's Kleen Machine: I bought a brand new model from Costco with a cost of about $350. It has smaller bag capacity and a shorter length of wire than Aquabot. However, sometimes, the robot would clean only a small area. Finally, I decided to return it back to Costco with its generous return policy. A few weeks later I tried it again by purchasing a refurbished model from eBay which cost about $300, but it could not be turned on from the beginning. When I checked Smart Pool's website, I found that they don't make this model anymore. Thus, I asked the vendor to replace it with the following brand-new model.
3. Smart Pool NC71 Nitro Wall Scrubber Pool: It seems to be a model improved from Kleen Machine and uses fewer parts. It costs about $700s in about half of the cost of Aquabot. Its advantages are: costless to run without a need of water pump; filtering fine particles and reduce pool filter loading; super large bag capacity (unsure if it is bigger than Aquabot's); 60 feet long wire; two years warranty with less moving parts that seems to have longer durability; and DIY serviceability by video for repairs and parts. The other distinguished advantage is it can scrub much better than any other models for all nearly vertical walls with a continuous transition of surface. However, it still cannot climb to steps with no continuous transition of surface (no reviewed model can do this).
I have used Nitro Wall Scrubber for about a month, and I like it very much because it costs me less money and spend fewer efforts to maintain my pool. However, I am still unsure about its durability. Just in case it breaks, I hope the DIY video and parts may save me money and will not cost me an amount of money for buying a new one to repair it, such as the case of Aquabot.
I give it a rating of 5 stars based on about one month's experience by comparing it to the other models I used including Polaris's. However, I will revise the rating if I find it has any other unexpected problem such as short durability, etc.

Blue Pearl Robotic IG Pool Cleaner With PVA Brushes Review

(More customer reviews)I live in Miami and I purchased the Blue Pearl about 6 months ago for my in-ground 15 X 30 gunite pool. I use it one to two times a week. I was apprehensive about spending this much money for a pool cleaner, especially when I couldn't find any kind of consistent positive reviews for robotic cleaners in general.
But, even though my pool looks perfect, it is old and plumbing for it has always been marginal. Which makes vacuuming slow with not enough suction to run a typical automatic pool cleaner. So I was forced to consider a more expensive robotic cleaner.
Overall, I have been very happy with my decision to purchase the Blue Pearl. I have gotten plenty of use out of it without any problems and it does a really great job of cleaning if you use it regularly. It has never hung up on the ladder or the steps. It goes to the surface and turns around and goes back down the wall. It will clean my pool in about 1.5-2.0 hours but will shut itself off after 3 hours. To minimize wear and tear, if I am around, I will turn it off when the pool is clean. You are then supposed to let it set for at least 10 minutes to let the motor cool before removing the cleaner. You are also not supposed to leave the cleaner in the pool indefinitly I guess to prevent water getting past the motor seals. The only hassle is cleaning the filter bag which takes about 5 minutes but is still much less than the time to clean the pool your self.
I am sure it is made by the same people that make Aquabot (the warranty address is the same) and most of the components if you look at parts schematics are identical.
I wasn't impressed with quality control however. When I first put my Blue Pearl in the pool, it simply didn't move. I took it out and found that the drive belt and one of the gears wasn't installed correctly. I took it apart, it was a bit of a hassle but easier than returning it, and reassembled it correctly. It then worked perfectly, much to my relief. Still, it shows that company does not test run their products after assembly.
For the average home owner, I see no reason to spend more for some of the other fancier robotic cleaners. This one works great and I would have to say, I would get the Blue Pearl again. Check around as prices vary widely.

Baracuda G3 Automatic Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned a Hayward Navigator ( did a good job but it was always getting stuff clogged in it and it costs about $100-125 per year in parts to keep it alive. ) Then I went with the Plaris ATV and it lasted 2 years and died. I went to lots of pool places around town who don't sell it because it broke down a lot. It would have cost me close to $200 to fix, or $300 or so for a new pool cleaner. I live in AZ and we get large dust storms that line the bottom of the pool with dirt and leaves. I stuck the Baracuda in and withen one and a half ours my pool looked like new. The thing only travels up the sides about 3-4 feet, no biggie. It stays off the steps too which is fine with me.
The guy at the pool store said this is the longest lasting and cheapist to fix when and if it needs it.

(More customer reviews)I Have owned more expensive units costing 1000-1400. I took my chance on this one. At first the unit would not climb, then it just stopped working. I must say at first I was disappointed, so I returned it to the Manufacturer for a replacement. The new one worked fantastic! It climbs walls doesn't scrub the water line but will clean up to it. That is not a problem for me, as non of the other models did a great at this. It does a great job on the bottom and cleans the deep end as well as the shallow end. Will not climb stairs, but don't get hung up on that, none of the previous models did a good job at that either.
The unit is able to go up the steep grade in my pool were other models I have owned would fall back down to the deep end. In addition, it has a great feature: if it senses that it is stuck- like on the pickup drains on the bottom, it will pop a wheely and navigate out of its stuck position. The more expensive units I had owned would get stuck and I would have to pull them off the main suction drain.
The unit is light and easy to pickup out of the water. The filter design is very easy to remove and clean and a breeze to put back on. I found that the Dolphin was the most difficult and the hayward cartridge design was not as effective as the bag type.
Another plus is the entire unit is modular: meaning that you can buy a replacement motor or brush and replace them yourself. Once it goes out of warranty this feature will be a benifit.
I would recommend this unit to anyone that is looking for the best bang for the buck. plus it comes with a Caddy...

Many times the cleaner may be found "belly up" at the bottom of the pool, or flipped sideways. As you don't track the whole operation unless you are spending an hour or more, you are left wondering when it actually stopped cleaning.
To get better coverage of my pool (which has no straight edges) I have had to try multiple locations to start the cleaner.
I haven't really seen it climb walls any higher than a little bit more than its own body width. And it cannot clean the steps (does not climb).
The pool looks relatively okay after cleaning so I decided to keep this product. Can't ask for perfection from a robotic cleaner at that price tag I guess...

(More customer reviews)I have used this Floatron for over ten years in a twelve-foot aboveground pool in South New Jersey and am very satisfied with its performance. I just left it floating all the time, and it kept the water free of algae and turbidity to the point that I used chlorine only once in Spring after removing the winter tarp, and once more in late Fall before putting the pool cover back on and disconnecting the pump. In all those years, I had to replace the copper electrode twice, at $50.00 or so each time, but I guess chemical treatment would have cost more in money and maintenance time.
The only slight cons are that when my children were younger and practically lived in that pool during the swimming season, their blond hair seemed occasionally to get a slightly greenish tint, and some white T-shirts showed the same coloration, but it was slight and never bothered us. Also, the rubber bumper strip around the Floatron's circumference came loose and split, and I had to caulk it back into its groove.
Some of that old Floatron's photocells look discolored now, as if water had leaked into or around them, and last summer I had to use chlorine a couple of times to keep the water clear. I guess therefore that this Floatron has reached the end of its lifespan, and I am replacing it with a new one, but the old one has served us well and fully earned its retirement.

(More customer reviews)We bought this unit about 3 years ago from Specialty pool products. My husband wanted to replace another unit we had that worked off the pump and this unit is independent. The plus sides -- it works independently so you don't lose a skimmer like with you do with other models. You put the unit into the pool and there are two options for cleaning, a full cycle and a "quick clean." You use the cycle dependent upon how dirty the pool is. This unit cleans very easily and it really works great. If you have a lot of algae in the pool it will not climb the sides of the pool, it will simply slide down.
Here's the down side with a vinyl pool and we found out the hard way: if you do not have a heavy gauge pool liner this unit can pick up a pebble and drill it right through your liner. A year ago we had to replace our liner. I had a customer of ours order a liner. I did not know they came in various gauges and thought he ordered us the best product out there. We went ahead and replaced the liner. Right before a holiday my husband and his friend were cleaning up around the pool and took our backpack blower and blew off the walks around the pool. Sometime while doing that a rock must have been blown into the pool. I threw the pool cleaner in the next day and within 5 hours after taking it out the pool was low on water. The leakfinder guy we hired to find the leak said this is commonplace with a lot of pool vacuums. He rattled off several names but I can't remember which ones he spoke as being notorious for picking up debris and continually spinning it around until it cuts the liners. He explained that we had a thinner liner than we should have and it will make it more susceptible to holes. When I called the guy who sold me this unit he told me no one had ever called him with this problem. Just another case of a salesman not backing what he sells.
So there are the pluses and minuses. I make sure in the spring that I hand vacuum the pool several times before I put this unit in. And - if we have several people going in and out of the pool and hand vacuum the next time it needs it to make sure nothing got tracked in on feet.

I recently broke down and retired my Polaris 380 and replaced it with the new Polaris 3900s. So far I have been very impressed. Installation was simple and it took 15 minutes to get everything set up. It climbs much better than my old 380 did and seems to do a much better job cleaning the pool. The main reason I purchased this was that I have been forced to rebuild my 380 once a year with all the plastic disposable parts that were used in its construction. The 3900s uses galvanized steel internals which should offer a substantial increase in reliability and essentially gives the residential pool owner access to a commercial grade cleaner. Searching online you can find these cleaners for substantially less than the MSRP and coupled with the trade in offers from Polaris it made it an easy decision for me.

We bought him last year, first time pool/house owners and the pool was filled with algae and tons of stuff. Rover worked overtime, and got Everything out. Yes, his bag filled up, but the condition to the pool was not so good. We used him regularly and cleaned him after each use, following directions. We use to have a DE filter which broke and spit the powder all out in the pool.... yup Rover cleaned it all up for us. In the fall we had acorns all in the pool... yup again Rover picked up the big leaves and all the acorns, and I mean he had like 50 of them in his bag at a single time. It looked so funny emptying them out! But, he got the job done, with the solar cover even on top of the pool he works under it.
I find it great that you can just drop him in, set him to go, and come back in 2 hours and all done.... sooo easy! This year we opened our pool and once again Rover to the rescue for tree leaves and sticks and such from whatever storms we have had and normal debrie that falls into the pool. We have an above ground pool 18". His bag and the unit itself are in perfect condition. We had no problems with him at all, and again don't know what we would do with out one. If he ever broke I would not hesitate to buy again.
