Hitachi C10FCH 15 Amp 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw with Laser Review

Hitachi C10FCH 15 Amp 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw with Laser
Average Reviews:

Although reviews can provide you with a good overview of what's out there, I still like to actually see (and touch) the tools before buying them. So I went down to the local store and checked out their offerings. I was attracted to the Hitachi C10FCH miter saw because of the quality of construction, the ergonomics, the physical size and the price (ordered according to importance).
Quality of construction: nicely machined table, substantial hinge, smooth movement of miter and bevel adjustments.
Ergonomics: horizontal handle with conveniently located on/off switch (pistol grip only makes sense on sliding miter saws). A laser helps with aim.
Physical size: feels light and compact compared to other models in the same class.
Price: is reasonable since the saw comes with an integrated laser.
Performance: Excellent cuts (with the right blade)! With the help of the laser, I routinely cut base board within 1mm (=0.04 inch). Tool feels precise, solid and is easy to use.
Drawbacks that pursuaded me to give only four stars:
Although the price is reasonable, Hitachi was skimping on features: Table extensions are optional and the included blade is very coarse (good enough for 2x4s but you need to invest another $50 for a good blade that does moldings, base board, etc.), no dual compound capability.
Although the laser is extremely (!) useful, ideally one would like to have a dual laser calibrated to either edge of the cut. I find myself recalibrating the laser from one edge to the other edge a lot.
One last thing, the saw dust bag setup is not very efficient. It catches maybe 50%, probably less.

Freud TR215 8-1/2-Inch Sliding Compound Miter saw Review

Freud TR215 8-1/2-Inch Sliding Compound Miter saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used this saw for several months. I purchased it after my sometime building partner was called out of state, taking his superb (and costly) Milwaukee slide-compound saw with him. In all honesty, I bought the Freud elsewhere for less money than advertised here.
You probably will not like this saw if you are a fanatic for fine fit and finish. It's not as aesthetically pleasing as some of it's higher priced competition. The blade guard is cheesy, and the saw doesn't scream quality overall. It's obviously a price-point item. The exception to this is the blade, which is all one expects from Freud.
However, it is a good, functional tool. The cast-aluminum table is top-notch. The miter indexing is good, although the bevel indexing is only fair. I've cut materials ranging from 2-by pt and rough-cut to 5/4 to moulding, and always found the power sufficient. The only mechanical flaw I've found is the electric brake failing to function in extremely cold and damp weather. This is not unique, however, as a I worked with a friend's DeWalt under the same conditions and experienced a similar problem.
If you're looking for an heirloom quality tool, this probably isn't it. If you want something that does a surprisingly good job in rough-and tumble jobsite conditions, or for other reasons cannot justify spending additional money it's worth a long look. For the difference between the Freud and it's competition, I purchased a decent workstand, which truly increases production, safety and ease of use.

The DELTA 33-410 16-Inch, 3 HP radial arm saw uses an extra-long turret arm that permits the saw blade to rotate 360 degrees above the table for miter cuts. The Micro-Set miter stops ensures perfect miter cuts each and every time, and the huge 44 x 36-1/2-inch table will handle large stock with ease. The powerful 3 HP, single-phase motor generates 3,450 RPM to the 16-inch blade for making easy crosscuts up to 29 inches, 45 degree miters up to 22 inches, and maximum rips up to 41 inches. Cutting is incredibly accurate thanks to the six positive table leveling jacks which helps to keep everything aligned while cutting, and the fence lock knobs will also help keep things accurate during repetitive cuts.

Hitachi C15FB 15 Amp 15-Inch Miter Saw (No Bevel) Review

Hitachi C15FB 15 Amp 15-Inch Miter Saw (No Bevel)
Average Reviews:

I have this saw almost ten years it works great.I really like that you can see the blade spinning while cutting though the little window. My only complaints are that it is very heavy and there are a small amount of 15" blades to choose from.

The only 15-inch miter saw in the industry, the Hitachi C15FB is built to handle tough jobs and cut through wide stock, including various wood materials, plywood, decorative veneer, soft fiberboard, hardboard, and aluminum products. Its superior depth of cut and powerful motor allow for optimum material handling, and its 11 miter stops make the C15FB a precise tool that's incredibly easy to use.
Powers Through Tough Jobs with EaseThe C15FB runs off of any standard 115-volt power supply and features a robust 15 Amp single-phase motor that spins the 15-inch blade at no-load speeds of up to 3,400 RPM.
To get the motor going, use the trigger switch that's located on the comfortably designed handle. A lock-off button provides safety by locking the trigger when the saw is not in operation. When the trigger switch is released, an electric brake will stop the blade rotation to help prevent accidental cuts.
Sturdy Base Provides Support for Long PiecesWhen you're cutting long pieces, the included extension guides that extend out from the base will give you the stability you need. Also, gear-case center beam support will help increase cutting accuracy as overall tool life. Additionally, a stopper feature will allow for precise continuous cuts in lengths that you preset.
Easy Miter Cuts to the Left or RightThe C15FB has positive miter detents at 0, 15, 22.5, 30, 45, and 57 degrees to the left or right. The easy-to-read miter index lets you quickly find the correct angle for the job, and a side handle makes it easy to adjust the table angle.
A 4-3/4- x 7-9/32-inch depth of cut allows this saw to cut through trim and molding while standing vertically. This is useful for cutting crown molding without ever having to lift the workpiece off the table to get the proper angle.
User-Friendly Tool That's Built to LastHitachi designed the C15FB with easy access to the carbon brush, so it's easy to replace the brush and greatly prolong the life of the tool. The included dust-collector attachment helps to reduce the amount of airborne particles in the work area, and the debris deflection guard diverts debris from the workspace.
Compatible with Hitachi UU610 Universal Work Station (not included), the Hitachi C15FB Miter Saw measures 29-3/4 inches tall and weighs 55 pounds. It is backed by Hitachi's five-year limited warranty.

Bosch 3814 14-Inch Abrasive Cut-Off Machine Review

Bosch 3814 14-Inch Abrasive Cut-Off Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I first used this saw as a rental from a local rental yard and if it can stand up to rental usage, it can take anything. I think this is what sold me on this particular saw when I went shopping. Having never owned a Bosch tool (plenty of Hitachi, Milwaukee and Makita) before, I was hesitant, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the features: all ball and needle bearing construction with metal gears and a sealed motor with overload protection. It has the largest blade guard of all the saws I looked at and the quick release clamp makes setup a little faster. It is well made and is constructed of metal except for the handle grip. If its heft is a sign of its quality, it's a good saw! At 42 pounds, she's a handful to lug around.
This saw has seen some pretty extensive use and it handles all jobs with relative ease. I've used it on angle iron, round tube, square stock and 2-inch induction hardened hydraulic cylinder shaft; hard stuff!
I've used many different brands of chop saws and in all honesty, there are only minor differences between the top models. A chop saws ability to cut efficiently is VERY dependant on the blade. Most new users simply use the blade the manufacturer supplied and consider the saw flawed if it doesn't meet their expectations. My advice, try different blades and don't go cheap! Not only will a good blade cut faster, it will last longer and will be easier on the saw's motor. The above reviewer mentioned that his blade "walked" and cut into the saw's base; not the saw's fault, the blade flexed under pressure. A good reinforced blade will not do this.
All in all, I'm pleased with its performance. To sweeten the deal, my dealer threw in a 5-inch Bosch angle grinder (1711A) free. Now I guess I own two Bosch tools.

Milwaukee 6190-20 15 Amp 14-Inch Metal Cutoff Machine Review

Milwaukee 6190-20 15 Amp 14-Inch Metal Cutoff Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Milwaukee's 6190-20 is a reasonably good dry cut saw, similar in most respects to the other dry cut and abrasive chop saws I've used. The base and motor support are solidly built. The vise works fairly well, though I wish I could tighten the backstop down just a bit more. The final tension seems just a bit light and isn't adjustable. As far as I can tell, it's the same design used on most metal-cutting chop saws. Angle markings on the base aren't terribly accurate and the design of the saw makes it difficult to get a combination square next to the fence and blade to verify the angle; it's hit or miss whether you'll end up with perfect 45-degree miters or not-quite-right 44-degree cuts. Compared to an abrasive chop saw, the Milwaukee 6190 cuts much faster, generates very few sparks, and doesn't heat the metal appreciably. It does have a tendency to throw metal shavings all over the place, but I find them easier to sweep up than the fine grit that ends up coating the shop after using an abrasive saw. Due the the amount of metal thrown off, I'll suggest that safety glasses are a requirement when using this tool, in addition to hearing protection. Like most metal cutting saws I've used, the Milwaukee 6190 doesn't feature an electronic soft-start on the motor; when you squeeze the trigger the motor kicks in at full torque and tends to jerk the blade up or down if you don't have firm grip on the handle.
Unfortunately, the blade is a worthless piece of junk! Mine started to go dull after four dozen cuts through 2" square tubing. In the process, it caught a piece of metal and sucked it into the saw, completely ruining the blade guard! Luckily, no one was injured when this happened and, surprisingly, the crappy blade wasn't damaged. I had the blade re-sharpened, but it only lasted for another dozen or two cuts before it was dull again. Called Milwaukee tech support to see if they had any suggestions for making blades last longer and the only thing they could tell me was that the didn't recommend re-sharpening their blade. I ended up paying $105 for a Metal Devil 14-Inch, 72 Tooth blade and have had smooth sailing ever since... minus a working blade guard.
Factor the cost of the replacement blade into the purchase price of this tool... or buy the DeWalt DW872 and hope DeWalt supplies better blades!

The 6190-20 utilizes dry (a.k.a. "cold") cut technology which will cut on average three times faster than an abrasive machine and costs 1-1/2 times less to operate. The saw produces little to no sparks when cutting and leaves a virtually burr-free finish. The motor is a 15 amp, 4.8 max H.P. The base is a heavy-duty cast aluminum reinforced with a 1/4 in. steel plate. The vise and back fence is tool free. The horizontal D-handle provides optimum comfort whether the tool is on the ground or sitting on a bench.

DEWALT DW716 15 Amp 12-Inch Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw Review

DEWALT DW716 15 Amp 12-Inch Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was ready to upgrade from my Delta 10" miter to a 12", but was waiting for Dewalt to come out with a laser system. I bought this DW716 about 2 weeks ago and so far I love it. I opted NOT to get the sliding miter, since they are not as accurate as the non-sliding, especially for making furniture. This saw is very powerful and smooth, and the laser works well, though it took a while to get it set up (the instructions are marginal at best, leaving you to twiddle with it for an hour or more to try to get it to line up in every direction).
One thing I HIGHLY recommend is a RIDGID MS-UV miter stand. I found one at Home Depot and it is the best miter saw stand on the market, and very reasonably priced. It folds and unfolds easily, and the wheels make mobility great. It is MUCH better than the Dewalt or the Delta miter saw stands. Why Dewalt doesn't have a folding one with wheels is beyond me, and the Delta one is just too small for a 12" miter. The combination of a stand and a 12" miter needs wheels, as it is very heavy. You can leave the Dewalt 12" miter mounted to the RIDGID, and even set it vertically in the corner out of the way when you don't need it. Anyway, Amazon doesn't sell the Ridgid MS-UV yet, but Home Depot does.

Whether you're cutting baseboards or crown molding, the DEWALT 12-Inch Double-Bevel Compound Miter Saw provides quick, accurate cuts to complete the job. Thanks to a powerful 15 Amp motor, an easy-to-adjust cam-lock miter handle, convenient miter and bevel stops, and a tall fence for oversized decorative moldings, this compound miter saw is ready for a range of crosscutting and miter-cutting applications. In addition, it comes with a durable carbide blade, a blade wrench, and a convenient dust bag.
Smart, Powerful Design for Quick, Accurate CutsThe DEWALT double-bevel compound miter saw's 12-inch blade is backed by a powerful and dependable 15 amp motor. Offering a no-load speed of 3,600 rpm, it makes quick work of cutting framing or molding, as well as other crosscutting and miter-cutting jobs.
This sturdy saw is designed to deliver precise cuts, allowing for the versatile setups required for miter applications. An easy-to-adjust cam-lock miter handle delivers quick and accurate miter angles, and features a convenient detent override, which allows you to adjust the miter setting without the saw slipping into the miter detents. And the saw's big miter capacity--0 to 50 degrees to the left and the right--adds versatility.
The tall fence supports 6-5/8-inch crown molding nested vertically, as well as 6-1/2-inch base molding set vertically against the fence. The fence slides out of the way easily when it's time to make bevel cuts.
Increased Bevel Capacity and Convenient StopsThis saw is also designed to deliver quick, accurate bevel cuts. You can easily set up for bevel cuts that measure between 0 and 48 degrees to the left and to the right. This handy setup provides increased capacity for big jobs and allows you to flip the saw instead of the material. Plus, with hardened steel bevel stops at 0, 33.9, 45 and 48 degrees on both sides, it makes finding and setting the most common bevel angles a quick, easy process.
Ideal for a range of applications, the saw can deliver clean, 45-degree bevel cuts through dimensional lumber that measures up to 2 by 8 inches. And at 90-degrees, it can cross cut 2 by 10s.
Portable and Compatible with the DEWALT Laser or L.E.D. SystemThis lightweight compound miter saw weighs just 44 pounds and features a built-in carry handle, so you can move it around the jobsite easily and lift it comfortably when it comes time to stow the saw at the end of the day.
For additional accuracy and ease of use, this saw is compatible with the DEWALT' DW7187 adjustable miter saw laser system or the DWS7085 LED cut line indicator system (sold separately), which ensures that the cutting path is clear to see.
This 12-inch double-bevel compound miter saw also comes with a DEWALT warranty package that includes a three-year limited warranty, a one-year free service contract, and a 90-day money-back guarantee.
