Big Foot SBFXM 15 Amp 10-1/4-Inch Wormdrive Circular Saw with Big Foot T-Shirt Review

Bought the saw last week and used it on a project cutting glue laminated beams. Thought it was a little bit over priced but once I saw it in person, realized it was quite a substantial saw. I read the reviews concerning the Milwaukee and came to the conclusion of boning up more money for the Bigfoot. I suggest you do the same.
I was bummed that this saw didnt offer a case like the Milwaukee. None the less, you are getting a high quality saw. That is what really counts.
Nothing beats the performance of a worm drive saw.

DEWALT DW708 12-Inch Double-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter saw Review

DEWALT DW708 12-Inch Double-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned my 708 for 18 months now and am as happy with it now as when I bought it. The slide rails are very smooth and easy to adjust(needed depending on temperature extremes). The lever cam lock beats those twist knobs hands down. The miter detents are positive but not so deep as to make it difficult to go 1/4 of a degree to either side. The vernier scale on the miter pointer is handy. The depth stop is a useful item for certain uses, except for dados, where you have to keep the work 2-21/2" off the fence to get a flat cut. The tall fence is sturdy and is better than adding wood to the wimpy stock fence (a la Makita, Hitachi). The dual bevel feature is real nice, since now I don't have to move the zero stop to bevel right a degree or two. One improvement would be an overide for the bevel stops so you could bevel 47 degrees without messing with the adjustment. I just leave the stops turned out and go to the pointer for a true 45. The cutting capacity is plain heaven, especially for jig cutting railing parts(not even possible with a straight 12" or slide 10"). All told, the best saw on the market, even if it cost twice as much.

Freud TR215 8-1/2-Inch Sliding Compound Miter saw Review

Freud TR215 8-1/2-Inch Sliding Compound Miter saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used this saw for several months. I purchased it after my sometime building partner was called out of state, taking his superb (and costly) Milwaukee slide-compound saw with him. In all honesty, I bought the Freud elsewhere for less money than advertised here.
You probably will not like this saw if you are a fanatic for fine fit and finish. It's not as aesthetically pleasing as some of it's higher priced competition. The blade guard is cheesy, and the saw doesn't scream quality overall. It's obviously a price-point item. The exception to this is the blade, which is all one expects from Freud.
However, it is a good, functional tool. The cast-aluminum table is top-notch. The miter indexing is good, although the bevel indexing is only fair. I've cut materials ranging from 2-by pt and rough-cut to 5/4 to moulding, and always found the power sufficient. The only mechanical flaw I've found is the electric brake failing to function in extremely cold and damp weather. This is not unique, however, as a I worked with a friend's DeWalt under the same conditions and experienced a similar problem.
If you're looking for an heirloom quality tool, this probably isn't it. If you want something that does a surprisingly good job in rough-and tumble jobsite conditions, or for other reasons cannot justify spending additional money it's worth a long look. For the difference between the Freud and it's competition, I purchased a decent workstand, which truly increases production, safety and ease of use.

Bosch 4212L 12-Inch Dual Bevel Compound Miter saw with Laser Tracking Review

Bosch 4212L 12-Inch Dual Bevel Compound Miter saw with Laser Tracking
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I agree with most of the comments about how this saw is very good. The upfront bevel control, the miter detent release, sliding outfeed extentions are all great. Very solid, very low flex and very smooth operating. The cons that I have seen are: Very heavy,(probably weighs more than the old style Dewalt slide). The slide knob does not lock the saw from moving very well during transport. The saw was not adjusted out of the box, I had to adjust all settings, and the miter angle adjustment is clunky, you have to move the back fence; when you tighten it down it tends to move, so you have to allow for this, it takes a couple of attempts. The blade was not very good, another carpenter on the job was also amazed that this was a new blade, it cut like one of my older used blades. It could have a little better cutting range, the Dewalt beats it but is not nearly as well put together,(too much flex and poorly designed controls) The laser is difficult or impossible to see if you are outside, even with clouds, indoors it works great, (I am sure this is true for all lasers).
And did I mention that it's heavy?
That said, I still think that this is the best saw out there, regardless of price, (and this price is a bargain!) Nothing that I have seen compares with it: Dewalt, Ryobi, Craftsman, Makita, Ridgid, Milwaulkee, Hitachi, checked 'em all, bought the Bosch.
I am a contractor with over 24 years in framing and finish work, residential and light commercial work. I have had at least 4 compoud miter saws, (down to 2 right now), Hope this helps

I have this saw almost ten years it works great.I really like that you can see the blade spinning while cutting though the little window. My only complaints are that it is very heavy and there are a small amount of 15" blades to choose from.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Hitachi C15FB 15 Amp 15-Inch Miter Saw (No Bevel)

The only 15-inch miter saw in the industry, the Hitachi C15FB is built to handle tough jobs and cut through wide stock, including various wood materials, plywood, decorative veneer, soft fiberboard, hardboard, and aluminum products. Its superior depth of cut and powerful motor allow for optimum material handling, and its 11 miter stops make the C15FB a precise tool that's incredibly easy to use.
Powers Through Tough Jobs with EaseThe C15FB runs off of any standard 115-volt power supply and features a robust 15 Amp single-phase motor that spins the 15-inch blade at no-load speeds of up to 3,400 RPM.
To get the motor going, use the trigger switch that's located on the comfortably designed handle. A lock-off button provides safety by locking the trigger when the saw is not in operation. When the trigger switch is released, an electric brake will stop the blade rotation to help prevent accidental cuts.
Sturdy Base Provides Support for Long PiecesWhen you're cutting long pieces, the included extension guides that extend out from the base will give you the stability you need. Also, gear-case center beam support will help increase cutting accuracy as overall tool life. Additionally, a stopper feature will allow for precise continuous cuts in lengths that you preset.
Easy Miter Cuts to the Left or RightThe C15FB has positive miter detents at 0, 15, 22.5, 30, 45, and 57 degrees to the left or right. The easy-to-read miter index lets you quickly find the correct angle for the job, and a side handle makes it easy to adjust the table angle.
A 4-3/4- x 7-9/32-inch depth of cut allows this saw to cut through trim and molding while standing vertically. This is useful for cutting crown molding without ever having to lift the workpiece off the table to get the proper angle.
User-Friendly Tool That's Built to LastHitachi designed the C15FB with easy access to the carbon brush, so it's easy to replace the brush and greatly prolong the life of the tool. The included dust-collector attachment helps to reduce the amount of airborne particles in the work area, and the debris deflection guard diverts debris from the workspace.
Compatible with Hitachi UU610 Universal Work Station (not included), the Hitachi C15FB Miter Saw measures 29-3/4 inches tall and weighs 55 pounds. It is backed by Hitachi's five-year limited warranty.

Wow! Just an FYI to all. I purchased this saw exactly 4 years ago for $570.00 with free shipping. And now I see they are asking a whopping $715.00 today for the same saw??
Rarely do you see tools increase in value. Yes okay, maybe a little inflation to factor in, but my gosh, the way things are in the building industry, you would think Bosch would have a clue a give us contractors a break!! I was pondering getting another one since the one I have gets pulled in and out of my truck and used about 300 days a year. It's had it's day and parts are now a need, but the expense for the parts may be worth it now, with the way they have this saw priced today. My gosh!!
But overall, the saw is a beast and is worth every penny! And trust me....70lbs in and out takes toll..lol.

Average Reviews:

When shopping for a miter saw I looked at the Makita, the Dewalt and the Delta. Then I came across the Bosch. Bosch has an excellent reputation for their motors and quality construction. What set this one apart for me was the awsome back fence, the crisp detents and the little features that many other makers offer only as options. The fence is higher, longer and thicker than any other on the market this was one of the deciding factors for me. The miter scale and crisp detents were as good if not better than the second best, the Dewalt. This saw included the dust bag and an excellent hold down clamp which comes in very handy and adds a good degree of accurracy for making cross-cuts. The blade included with the saw is of excellent quality but I added a 96 tooth which produces a mirror finish cross-cut. Last but not least, the ergonomics are superior to any other saw on the market. This saw will last a lifetime and serve it's owner well.

Silky 179-39 Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 21-Feet Review

Silky 179-39 Telescoping Landscaping Pole Saw HAYAUCHI 390 21-Feet
Average Reviews:

I spent significant time researching extension pole saws that I could use to prune the many hard and softwood trees on my property without incurring the expense of a professional tree company. I was impressed by the 21' Silky Hayauchi but very skeptical about its ability to cut branches at this distance off the ground. I was also skeptical of my ability at age 66 to physically handle this saw at such an extreme height. I called the Silky Store and spoke to a representative regarding my concerns. They advised that I would not experience any problems as long as I engaged the double locking system on each pole extension and allowed the saw to do the work. They explained that the blade was designed to cut only on the pull stroke and that gravity would provide most of the required cutting force. The effort required on the push stroke would be minimal since no cutting occurs on the up stroke. Based on their advice and the Silky guaranty I purchased the 21' Hayauchi pole saw. I received it in 2 days! I was totally amazed with the incredible performance of this very high quality saw. I easily cut large limbs at least 20' or more off the ground. The guideance received from the Silky Store representative combined with my actual experience with this superior quality tool was very impressive. I intend to purchase additional Silky saws from the Silky Store.

The Hayauchi pole saw has rigid aluminum poles that quickly extend to desired cutting length. The base pole has a comfortable rubber grip. The extension lock with spring loaded buttons at the end of each length. The nearly 16-inch blade not only sports the largest teeth available in a razor tooth design, but has a sharpened base and tip for scoring the branch, to avoid ripping damage to the branch collar. The upper sickle is used to cut vines; the lower one - to undercut bark allowing a clean cut without damaging the tree. The aluminum alloy extension pole is oval shaped, giving precise control to the direction of the saw blade (especially important for high cutting) and also giving strength and rigidity to the pole, reducing bending to the minimum. Push buttons allow multiple length adjustments and safety clamps hold the extensions firmly in place. A rubber hand-grip ensures good hold and control. Bosch 4410 10-Inch Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw Review

Bosch 4410 10-Inch Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I purchased this saw as a woodworking tool, rather than a carpentry or jobsite tool, so keep that in mind.
This is a big saw. I intend to mount it permanently in my shop, so that is not an issue. But if you need mobility, the weight and girth would be problematic. That is the only negative thing I have to say at this point about this saw.
Cut Quality:
This saw cut through red oak 2 1/2 inches thick and 9 inches wide literally like butter, leaving a cut so smooth I was shocked (it was superior to my contractors saw with a Forrest WWII blade). Thus, the saw is more than adequately powered and has an excellent blade. Consider that if you balk at the price tag - you do not need to go out and replace the blade. Also, because the saw has adjustable kerf inserts, tearout is minimal (usually none at all). The kerf inserts are well designed and will not damage the saw if you cut one at an extreme bevel angle. Though not as good as a shop made zero clearance insert, it is effective enough that I am not going to spend time making one. The bottom line - perfect cuts that you make you smile as you run your fingers over the end grain.
Construction and Use:
Slider and Hold down: The slider action is extremely smooth. You can get through boards almost 13 inches in width effortlessly. The saw is extremely safe while doing this due to the excellent (and sturdy) blade guard and the very effective hold down clamp. The fence and hold down are sturdy enough that you need not touch the piece or have hands anywhere near the blade.
Adjustments: All controls are way out front - you never have to reach behind the saw! All adjustments are easy to make and I found the saw to be pretty much dead accurate. I like the microadjust feature, which I have never seen before on a miter saw. However, I must admit that I'm just too used to "knocking" the saw into place for miter cuts to actually ever use the microadjust.
Fit & Finish: This saw is heavy for a reason - it is solid. There is no cheapness about this saw. Also, it looks good. In all honesty, it makes all other tools in my shop look bad.
Other tidbits include an easy to use depth stop for cutting grooves, pullout extension slides for the table, and a 3 way adjustable handle for comfort on all cuts. I just don't see how a miter saw can get any better than this. It is a joy to use and makes my shop play time even more fun. Beats the heck out of pushing a six foot piece of oak over my table saw blade at a 45 any day!

I consider myself to be an intermediate woodworker. Using various joints including dovetails, mitres, and other multifaced joints in my work. I bought the 4410l to do a house full of baseboard and some crown moulding and am very pleased with the performance of this saw. Right out of the box, which arrived in only 4 days, the saw produced machinist square cuts and absolutely "light tight" crown cuts. ALL angles came dead accurate from the factory. The laser is just a wow factor and the dust collection isn't the greatest but the cuts this slider makes are a thing of beauty and ease, even with the supplied blade. I honestly don't understand the negative reviews about accuracy with this unit. I have the 10" Bosch contractors saw and its performance was what led me to this sliding mitre saw, Bosch was up to the task again. Fit,finish, upfront controls, the micro fine adjustment was wonerful on the crown cuts,...all great. This is good saw and I recommend it highly.

Milwaukee 6955-20 12-Inch Sliding Dual Bevel Miter Saw with Digital Miter Angle Fine Adjust Review

Milwaukee 6955-20 12-Inch Sliding Dual Bevel Miter Saw with Digital Miter Angle Fine Adjust
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a Home Improvement Contractor, I use these types of saws daily for multiple applications.
When it came time to upgrade miter saws I did a ton of research on the various models that were available. Reviews from online articles, tool magazines, talking to other professionals on the job to get their input.
I had all but settled on the Bosch 12" sliding Miter Saw about 3 months ago, when I heard the rumor that Milwaukee was right about to run this saw out. So I waited. Again-(I had heard this rumor before)
When I first saw the press release on Milwauke's website, I was excited. The $699.00 price tag didn't matter much as you expect to pay for quality, and the 12" Dual Bevel Sliders are pretty much running in that neighborhood. (There are some retailers that are trying to get like $770.00 for these saws so be careful and make sure they aren't gouging you.)
After selling a couple of deck jobs I made some calls and found that our local Home Depot had just got the saws in that morning.
I will say that I was surprised when I picked up the box, it was considerably smaller and lighter than I had expected it to be. I got the saw back to the shop and pulled it from the box. The first thing I noticed is that there is not a hold down or workpiece clamp that comes with the saw. Not sure if they make an add on package or what. But a hold down clamp is nice and I missed it during my test runs. Once unboxed, I promptly mounted it my stand. Again very light for a saw of this size which is cool because I move my saw around allot.
All of the factory settings were accurate. Square to the table, square to the fence....etc. Real happy with that. The digital miter gauge is pretty cool, but is not really necessary for most everyday uses. The detents are deep and accurate, and the miter scale is easy to read.
I like the depth of cut setting allowing for groving and rabbiting. This is real simple but functional which is what it needs to be and no more.
I would have liked a Zero Stop on the Bevel because it is a bit disconcerting after cutting and angle to make sure you are back to zero, but I can live past that.
The blade that came with the saw was adequate and the saw cut smoothly and accurately.
I again, while testing was missing a workpiece clamp and for the most part that is the reason why I only gave the saw a 4 out 5. It would have been nice to have and you expect it with a saw for 699.00 honestly.(When you buy a cadillac....)
The dust collection is real good. Only finer particles get through, but I felt the dust bag is a bit small because it can be filled up with only a few small cross cuts. It could have been a bit bigger and hey why not put the Milwaukee Logo on it?? It seems kind of cheap that they didn't do that. Not a biggie but again for 70.00 you would expect it.
The constant power technology that keeps the saw at an even RPM during tough cuts works great. It is a bit strange when you first fire up the saw and make a cut because it is idfferent from other saws. You can really tell the consistent power thing, it is just hard to quantify how.Try it out and you will see what I mean. The soft start and brake is nice and overall the saw is real smooth.
Overall it is a great saw. It is the most powerful on the market, and it is accurate. It is the little things that keep it from being perfect. Retrosepctively, I am glad I waited to buy this saw, and I would recommend it to others highly. But Milwaukee has to get better at the little things in the future. They are putting out allot of new innovative things lately, and my hope is that they are not skimping on the details to flood the market with these innovations. My experience with Milwaukee is that they are "tools for life" and I hope that this saw lasts as long as my other Milwaukee tools have.

DEWALT DW718 12-Inch Double-Bevel Slide Compound Miter Saw Review

DEWALT DW718 12-Inch Double-Bevel Slide Compound Miter Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have just recently purchased the new DW718 double-bevel sliding compound power miter saw with the high hope of a getting something really nice. Boy was I wrong! I really had high hopes since the older DW708 was a nice saw!
Firstly, the table is smaller than the dw708, the rails are 1 inch in diameter (rather than the common 1 3/16") this smaller rail system causes major power head deflection!!!! Accuracy is severely compromised by too much head flex - even worse is how over 14 inches of travel, the cut is out by about 16th of an inch, too much play in my opinion! Since the saw is made in MEXICO, I really feel that there are quality issues. As the older model was made is the States (hurray), this new model has a bad finish! There are aluminum slag deposits everywhere! I had to get out my grinder and start grinding off the extra aluminum that appears to be everywhere! The newly redesigned cam-lock handle is flimsy and harder to use than the previous cam-lock system. One thing that I really don't like is that they got rid of the miter-verneer scale for the miter scale. One could easily adjust (on the DW708) to 1/4 or even 1/2 degrees - you still can now, but it is way harder. They now use a wimpy piece of "flexible red plastic" single arrow; very unimpressive; it is hard to read! Also, the bevel lock is hard to use and get at. DeWalt placed it very close to the motor. So you have to pull the power head completely forward in order to get a complete grip on the bevel lock handle if you want to lock into a certain bevel angle, very bad design! They have redesigned the dust collection system. It works by having a black plastic pipe run for about 12 inches before the dust bag is attached. Barely any dust is caught. Even with my 6.5 peak Horse Power vacuum I cannot collect any dust. At least other miter saws have "some sort" of dust collection, this one fails miserably! The bevel lever (this is what allows one to set the bevel into preset detents) is sometimes hard to operate - it can stick and get jammed, so look out for this! THE SLIDE ACTION (FRONT TO BACK) IS VERY JERKY (NOT SMOOTH)! EVEN AFTER LUBRICATION, IT STILL DOES NOT SLIDE EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT IT SHOULD FOR THAT PRICE. ALSO, WHEN THE SAW IS BEVELED EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT (PAST 15 DEGREES), THE SLIDE ACTION GETS WORSE--AS THE WHOLE MOTOR ASSEMBLY PUTS ADDED STRESS ON THE RAILS. WOW-WEE!?#...

There are some positives though: the unit is lighter and smaller, it does cut 14 inches with the regular fence (and when you use the auxiliary fence with a 1 1/4 inch auxiliary wood table built-up, you can cut up to 16 inches, NICE!). The positive bevel stops: crown molding miter-bevel 33.85 degrees Left / Right, 90 degree, 45 Left / Right and right are on the money and very sturdy, They are also easily calibratable if needed. The laser feature is nice, but not needed in my opinion! The laser is sold separately!!!... The left and right fence assemblies are very sturdy and accurate (they too can be adjusted if need be)! They have reversed the 60 degree and 50 degree positions on the miter table. The dw708 went 60 to the right, 50 left. Now the DW718 goes 50 right, 60 left no real bigy here! They have redesigned the saw base for better stability - the saw does NOT tip like the older dw708 did. It does cut really high molding; both nested and flat. I tried 6 5/8 nested crown, and it did it no problems here! It will cut 6 1/2 baseboard vertically, very nice!
I am going to return this saw and buy the MAKITA LS1013, now there's a saw! If you really want to buy a DeWalt slider though, then get the DW708! It is proven. My opinion, buy the MAKITA LS1013 - still made in the good old U.S.A., where quality still remains! DeWalt has seriously dropped the ball on this one!!!...
I have now purchased the makita ls1013, wow what a machine! The dw708 does have more cutting capacity etc, but for the quality that makita offers, you just cannot beat it. I also, give high praise to the hitachi c10fsb (no laser)!
** I do NOT work for makita or any other tool company! I am just giving technical information not given by anyone else on amazon.com; to allow decent people to make informed decisions. ** TAKE CARE!!!...

DEWALT DW713 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw Review

DEWALT DW713 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw

(More customer reviews)
I'm not a professional, I'm just a homeowner who appreciates quality tools, but it seems they got all the details right on this saw. Miter and bevel were perfectly aligned out of the box, which I checked with my triangle and with some test cuts. Getting it out of the box was easy too, thanks to the carrying handle on the saw head which is very solid and close to the center of balance. (Usually with big items like this you have to figure out how to get your hands underneath it and then hold the box down while you get it out.) The locking pin which keeps the saw head down when you're carrying it can be slid in and out easily but has no problem supporting the weight, while the spring that raises the head prevents the pin from sliding out accidentally. There are also good hand holds on each side of the base with rounded edges so they don't dig into your hands.
Bevel stops at 0 and 45 degrees make it easy to switch between common angles, but can be slid back after loosening a screw to allow a few more degrees either way when you need to compensate for other cuts that were a little off (made by someone else, of course). There's also a flip-out stop for 33.9 degree bevel which is also solidly made. The bevel locking knob-thing is nice and big, making it easy to grip and turn. The adjustable fence can be quickly adjusted with a single knob, but is still very sturdy when tightened down.
Miter adjustment is rock solid. The quick detents have no wiggle room at all, and the detent override makes it easy to adjust to any angle. The simple push-down miter lock is easy to use, and once locked I was unable to force it slip to either side.
The dust bag collects a bit over half of the sawdust, and as a result fills up pretty quickly. I'm planning to get an adapter so I can connect my shopvac to the dust outlet. If you're wondering, the dust port is 1.5" O.D.
Everything about this saw is sturdy, and all the adjustments can be made with very little effort. It's also a little quieter than I expected, which is nice. You can't go wrong with this saw.

Makita LS1216L 12-Inch Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw Review

Makita LS1216L 12-Inch Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw

I've had the no-light model for 2 years. The newer model has minor upgrades (i.e. front handel smaller). I bought this saw because its table rotates smoothly, and it still does! No stop or bevel problems ever! The motor has never appeared under powered but I use sharp quality blades. I did not give this 5 stars as I think the RH fence should be included. I added it but it's pricey. I agree that a quick release clamp would be nice too. My table saw now gets much less use, and I find little reason to own a RAS now. I too suspect something fishy about the bad review, could it be from a competitor's sale person. I question a review when someone implies they had problems from the get-go, and failed to return the product. Makita tuff, reliable tools for a quality minded professional! Just picked up their 7 1/4 Hypoid circular saw to replace my worm drive.
