Freud FT2000E 3-1/4-Horsepower Electronic Variable Speed Plunge Router Review

I have an almost exactly opposite experience with Freud as that mentioned in the above review. I am on my second FT2000 and have always received great customer service the few times I needed service. I just sent it to Freud USA and they fixed it within a week, only charging me once for a repair. It's a great router: quiet and powerful with easy to reach controls. As a professional woodworker, I recommend it without reservation.

Freud TR215 8-1/2-Inch Sliding Compound Miter saw Review

Freud TR215 8-1/2-Inch Sliding Compound Miter saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used this saw for several months. I purchased it after my sometime building partner was called out of state, taking his superb (and costly) Milwaukee slide-compound saw with him. In all honesty, I bought the Freud elsewhere for less money than advertised here.
You probably will not like this saw if you are a fanatic for fine fit and finish. It's not as aesthetically pleasing as some of it's higher priced competition. The blade guard is cheesy, and the saw doesn't scream quality overall. It's obviously a price-point item. The exception to this is the blade, which is all one expects from Freud.
However, it is a good, functional tool. The cast-aluminum table is top-notch. The miter indexing is good, although the bevel indexing is only fair. I've cut materials ranging from 2-by pt and rough-cut to 5/4 to moulding, and always found the power sufficient. The only mechanical flaw I've found is the electric brake failing to function in extremely cold and damp weather. This is not unique, however, as a I worked with a friend's DeWalt under the same conditions and experienced a similar problem.
If you're looking for an heirloom quality tool, this probably isn't it. If you want something that does a surprisingly good job in rough-and tumble jobsite conditions, or for other reasons cannot justify spending additional money it's worth a long look. For the difference between the Freud and it's competition, I purchased a decent workstand, which truly increases production, safety and ease of use.

Hitachi C15FB 15 Amp 15-Inch Miter Saw (No Bevel) Review

Hitachi C15FB 15 Amp 15-Inch Miter Saw (No Bevel)
Average Reviews:

I have this saw almost ten years it works great.I really like that you can see the blade spinning while cutting though the little window. My only complaints are that it is very heavy and there are a small amount of 15" blades to choose from.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Hitachi C15FB 15 Amp 15-Inch Miter Saw (No Bevel)

The only 15-inch miter saw in the industry, the Hitachi C15FB is built to handle tough jobs and cut through wide stock, including various wood materials, plywood, decorative veneer, soft fiberboard, hardboard, and aluminum products. Its superior depth of cut and powerful motor allow for optimum material handling, and its 11 miter stops make the C15FB a precise tool that's incredibly easy to use.
Powers Through Tough Jobs with EaseThe C15FB runs off of any standard 115-volt power supply and features a robust 15 Amp single-phase motor that spins the 15-inch blade at no-load speeds of up to 3,400 RPM.
To get the motor going, use the trigger switch that's located on the comfortably designed handle. A lock-off button provides safety by locking the trigger when the saw is not in operation. When the trigger switch is released, an electric brake will stop the blade rotation to help prevent accidental cuts.
Sturdy Base Provides Support for Long PiecesWhen you're cutting long pieces, the included extension guides that extend out from the base will give you the stability you need. Also, gear-case center beam support will help increase cutting accuracy as overall tool life. Additionally, a stopper feature will allow for precise continuous cuts in lengths that you preset.
Easy Miter Cuts to the Left or RightThe C15FB has positive miter detents at 0, 15, 22.5, 30, 45, and 57 degrees to the left or right. The easy-to-read miter index lets you quickly find the correct angle for the job, and a side handle makes it easy to adjust the table angle.
A 4-3/4- x 7-9/32-inch depth of cut allows this saw to cut through trim and molding while standing vertically. This is useful for cutting crown molding without ever having to lift the workpiece off the table to get the proper angle.
User-Friendly Tool That's Built to LastHitachi designed the C15FB with easy access to the carbon brush, so it's easy to replace the brush and greatly prolong the life of the tool. The included dust-collector attachment helps to reduce the amount of airborne particles in the work area, and the debris deflection guard diverts debris from the workspace.
Compatible with Hitachi UU610 Universal Work Station (not included), the Hitachi C15FB Miter Saw measures 29-3/4 inches tall and weighs 55 pounds. It is backed by Hitachi's five-year limited warranty.

Hitachi CR18DL 18-Volt Li-Ion Reciprocating Saw Kit Review

Hitachi CR18DL 18-Volt Li-Ion Reciprocating Saw Kit
Average Reviews:

I have bought this saw based on the review on this blog but have not tested it as yet doing real work. I intend to use it for cutting bamboo and other woody material while volunteering at my local botanical garden.
I can't compare the cutting speed of this saw compared to a saw that runs at 3000 or more but wouldn't this be related to the type of blade you install?
With a 10 year warranty wouldn' t this saw make a good professional saw? Does anyone know if it would be covered if used by a professional?
I will try to update this after I try it out but would be interested in hearing others experience with it.
Thanks

Hitachi C12LSH 15 Amp 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter saw with Laser Guide and Digital Bevel Display Review

Hitachi C12LSH 15 Amp 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter saw with Laser Guide and Digital Bevel Display

This is a physically large and heavy saw. I bought it and the Hitachi miter stand to take to jobs sits to do cabnet grade trim work and I'm afraid I over bought. (I'm gonna end up with a hernia or a broken back). The lazer, while accurate, needs to be adjusted with every change of saw position. Plus, my lazer runs out of adjustment to the left side of the blade but has plenty to the right (there may be another adjustment but nothing in the manual). My biggest disapointment is the digital display. It only reads to .5 degree, but you can move the table between the marks and the saw stays at .5 (I can eye ball a half degree as this saw has a excellent miter scale (And a fair bevel scale). I think this feature (and the reason I bought the saw) to be over rated. I've also noticed a somewhat gritty slide action (may need a cleaning)..That being said I have found this saw to be accurate and powerfull. The soft start is a nice feature, but it takes some getting used to as you have to wait for the saw to get up to speed before contacting to wood.

The award-winning Hitachi C12LSH 12-Inch Sliding Dual Compound Miter Saw with Laser Marker and Digital Display provides smooth, accurate miters and crosscuts in a variety of workpieces, including wood, plywood, crown molding, decorative panels, soft fiberboard, hard board, and aluminum sashes. A top-of-the-line tool for trim carpenters, framers, and woodworkers who demand precision and reliability, the C12LSH features a compact slide system, an LCD, Hitachi's exclusive Laser Marker System, and more.
Compound Feature for Precise Miters and BevelsHitachi designed the C12LSH for versatile, easy use. The miter scale ranges between zero and 46 degrees to the left and zero and 57 degrees to the right, and a micro-miter knob lets you dial in precise angles. Additionally, positive miter stops allow you to easily change the angle of the cutting blade for creating miters in crown molding and other trim pieces.
The bevel scale ranges from zero to 45 degrees to the left and right, allowing your material to stay in place while you flip the saw head to make opposing cuts. After your major bevel angle is secured, a micro-bevel adjustment knob can be used to dial in a precise angle, while positive stops allow for quick and easy measurements and settings.
The 12-inch TCT saw blade (included) makes easy work of delicate trim and other woodwork, and the pivoting fence raises a height of 4-11/16 inches to allow for accurate vertical cutting of crown molding and other large workpieces.
Compact Slide System Requires Zero ClearanceWith its revolutionary compact slide system, the C12LSH requires no rear clearance like other sliding saws. Hitachi's patented fixed rail system allows the saw head to glide smoothly along twin rails, which stay put and do not protrude to the rear of the saw. The result is a sliding saw that can be operated on a small work surface that has minimal rear clearance, such as up against a wall.
This innovative new feature is just one of the reasons that the Hitachi C12LSH was named one of the "Top 10 Innovative Tools for 2006" by Workbench Magazine, February 2006.
Laser Marker Technology and LCD for Perfect CutsHitachi equipped the C12LSH with its exclusive Laser Marker System, which can be activated before the blade is in motion for exact alignment and predictable blade placement. The laser marker is easily adjustable to the left or right of the cut mark to suit your preferences, simply line up the laser with your mark on the workpiece, and the saw blade will make an exact cut along the laser guide. As long as your measurements are right, your cuts will be, too!
The C12LSH also includes an innovative LCD (liquid crystal display) that takes the guesswork out of miter and bevel readings and saves time by eliminating costly mistakes. This top-mounted digital scale swivels to provide clear and accurate miter and bevel readings from any angle.
Chock-Full of User-Friendly FeaturesThe C12LSH has plenty of features to help you make the perfect cut the first time. To start, it has a powerful 15-amp motor that generates a no-load speed of up to 3,800 RPM to smoothly and easily cut through even the toughest hardwoods.
For precise, safe cutting, a fixed splinter guard increases safety and reduces tear-out for clean, finished cuts, and a comfortable vertical handle with a vibration-reducing elastomer grip prevents slippage and keeps you in control at all times.
The C12LSH also includes a dust bag that minimizes accumulation of dust and particles in your both your workspace and the saw's interior components, keeping your jobsite clean and prolonging the life of the tool. An added bonus, easily accessible carbon brushes will help your saw perform for the long term.
The Hitachi C12LSH measures 23-7/16 x 36-5/8 x 27-15/16 inches and weighs 66.1 pounds. Durably built, this tool is backed by an industry-leading five year warranty.

Hitachi UU610 Universal Miter Saw Stand Review

Hitachi UU610 Universal Miter Saw Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After purchasing the Hitachi C10FSB Miter Saw, I began shopping for a stand worthy of the saw. When I checked back at Amazon, I was glad to discover that Hitachi now has its very own stand. After purchasing other so-called UNIVERSAL products, only to be disappointed - I decided to play it safe and buy the OFFICIAL HITACHI AUTHORIZED version. After reading other customer reviews of the TracRac T3, it became evident that TracRac was manufacturing this product for Hitachi - Great! I thought - especially since the Hitachi version is ten dollars less. (note: Amazon had not yet posted a picture of the Hitachi stand when I made my purchase). Even after reading the very positive reviews for the TracRac T3, I was blown away by the quality of the components I pulled from the box. This is a very well designed and manufactured product. Hitachi/TracRac must have been listening to James S. McCulley from Albany (who has a review under TracRac called "Great Product - small flaw" about the Hitachi Universal Workstation in which he mentions a problem with the brittle plastic end caps) because included with a note about product improvement are four little rubber shock absorbing pads which you are instructed to insert before applying the end caps - it also looks as though they changed the end cap material to a softer more flexible type of plastic.
THE THING IS - even though the Hitachi Universal Workstation is $10 less than the TracRac T3 and it does have Hitachi green decals!! - you do not get the extension stop nor the wheel kit. What you see in the picture is what you get. You can add them as options for $70 bucks if want. So it looks like the TracRac T3 is the better value. Now, I am just a weekend hack so I don't plan on sending the Hitachi stand back (especially since it arrived in perfect condition) - but if I were a professional carpenter that extension stop and wheel kit would definitely be worth the extra 10 clams.

After waiting for years to buy this saw because of all the great reviews I bought the one with the laser. I build furniture and thought this would be the end all of miter saws. First off, the fence was out of adjustment and took some doing to line up. After less than 3 months of limited usage, the electric brake quit braking! I took it to an authorized repair facility, they ordered a switch which came in defective. Then they ordered another switch, armature, and two other items and I got the saw back after about 4 weeks. Less than 10 hours of use and once again, no brake -- it just coasts down forever which really makes it totally inefficient. I'd just as soon use my table saw. I contacted Hitachi once again wanting them to send my a replacement but it won't work that way. I need to take it to another authorized repair place and have them go through whatever the proper channels are to replace this saw. Maybe since it's "new & improved" I should have gotten the older, proven one or maybe because it's made in a different factory. Whatever the case, I'm very disappointed with this saw up to now. Purchased the end of October and barely any use.

Hitachi WR18DL 18-volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Wrench Review

Hitachi WR18DL 18-volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Wrench
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I install garage doors, and my impact wrench is my number one weapon. I have owned a 14.4 Milwaukee, 14.4 DeWalt, 18v DeWalt, and now this one. I had to send the Milwaukee back numerous times because of it's poor build quality. I have had motors die on the DeWalt due to its poor cooling design. There are small plastic fins in the motor which move air and keep the motor cool, and they have broken of on every DeWalt impact I have owned. I have been using the Hitachi for more than 4 months without a problem. I look actually look forward to using it. The battery stays secured to the drill, even after a four five foot fall. I laughed at the little light it comes with at first, but it has come in handy in dark garages. The torque is strong enough to pull the lug nuts of a wheel hub, and the battery life is stellar. One battery will get me through multiple double sized garage door installs. The DeWalt would kill at least too full batteries in only one install. It's safe to say that one Hitachi lithium-ion batter = 3+ DeWalt NiCads.
Another reviewer has mentioned a bad smell from the motor. All my impacts, drills, saws, and other power tools have gave off burning odor during the break-in of the tool. This is normal.
One other component of the impact which I enjoy is the pin. Unlike the DeWalt, the pin is designed to keep the socket secure when the pin of the impact is in line with the hole of the socket. The socket WILL come off of the impact with a little force unlike the DeWalt. With the DeWalt, the pin had to be compressed with a nail or screw in order to remove the socket.
To sum this review up... Buy the Hitachi.

The Hitachi WR18DL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Impact Wrench is a powerful, lightweight cordless tool ideal for all drilling, driving, and fastening applications--everything from hanging doors and installing cabinetry to tightening carriage bolts, driving lags, and sinking deck screws. With class-leading impact, an industry-leading warranty, and Hitachi's exclusive HXP lithium-ion technology, the WR18DL Impact Driver is a reliable tool that has plenty of power to get the job done.
Powerful Drilling, Driving, and FasteningWith enough power to rival professional automotive wrenches, the WR18DL has an industrial-grade two-piece motor that features heavy-gauge copper coils for maximum power and long-lasting performance. And you know the WR18DL will pack a punch: it delivers an impact rate of up to 3,200 BPM, a no-load variable speed of 0-2,600 RPM, and a class-leading 1,950 in./lbs. of torque. For ultimate control, a unique two-step speed switch allows you to select between two power settings: Power Mode (0-2,600 RPM) and Save Mode (0-2,000 RPM).

With all that power, you have to keep things cool. Thankfully, Hitachi's unique cool flow technology sends a steady stream of air to the motor, which enables the impact to run harder and longer than most impact drivers without risking burnout.

Full of User-Friendly FeaturesLike all Hitachi tools, the WR18DL is full of features that were designed with the user in mind. To start, a non-slip Elastomer grip keeps you in complete control of the tool and provides comfort for all-day jobs. What's more, the driver weighs only 3.5 pounds, so it is extremely easy to maneuver and transport. A patented five-position belt hook with integrated LED offers easy portability, as well as illumination in dimly lit areas.

For further convenience, the WR18DL features a 1/2-inch square drive chuck for flexibility. Additionally, the driver is fitted with externally accessible carbon brushes and replaceable armature for easy maintenance and longer overall life.

HXP Batteries Last Three Times Longer and Weigh 50% LessThe WR18DL owes its light weight to two HXP Lithium-Ion batteries (included). These 3.0-Ah batteries weigh half of what traditional NiCd or NiMH batteries weigh. In fact, tools featuring HXP batteries are on average one pound lighter than tools using traditional batteries.

Additionally, HXP batteries last three times longer than their competition. Where NiCd and NiMH batteries could be used for up to 500 charge cycles, HXP Lithium-Ion batteries can be used for up to 1,500 charge cycles! An added bonus, the included quick charger replenishes the battery power in just 40 minutes, so you have less down time.

HXP Lithium-Ion batteries operate within optimal voltage limits, protecting both the tool and batteries from damage. Protection circuitry built into the batteries and charger monitors the charge and discharge for each battery cell, resulting in peak operating performance.

And if a surge in power is detected during use, Hitachi's Over-Current Protection technology will temporarily shut of the power to protect the batteries and tool from being damaged. This feature allows the power to return to optimal voltage, thereby extending battery and tool life beyond any competitive lithium-ion products.

HXP batteries come with a two-year HXP Lithium-Ion Battery Warranty, which protects against possible defects in materials and workmanship.

The Industry's Longest Lithium-Ion Tool WarrantyEvery Hitachi cordless power tool is designed to the highest standards and is rigorously tested for both performance and durability. All HXP Lithium-Ion cordless tools come with a Lifetime Lithium-Ion Tool Warranty, which protects against possible defects in materials and workmanship.

Swisher Shindaiwa E4-S3000 E4 24-1/2cc 4-Stroke Engine Commercial Grade String Trimmer Review

Swisher Shindaiwa E4-S3000 E4 24-1/2cc 4-Stroke Engine Commercial Grade String Trimmer

I previously owned a professional-model Shindaiwa trimmer, which was great and nearly indestructible. This one by Swisher has an advanced type of Shindaiwa engine, is lighter weight, and due to its higher RPM cuts unbelievably well. Vines, twigs on tree branches, tall weeds, all are practically vaporized. The self-feeding spool works as advertised-- you can restring it in 30 seconds, without tools-- once you know how it works and what to expect. The manual does a very poor job of explaining how the spool works. It only provides an illustration with arrows and symbols, and no text explaining how you're supposed to thread the replacement line. I did it wrong the first time, then had to use up the line by trimming, with only one feed instead of two, because I couldn't figure out how to remove the line once installed. Now I know what to expect and can load new line in no time.

Hitachi NV65AH 2-1/2-Inch Coil Siding Nailer Review

Hitachi NV65AH 2-1/2-Inch Coil Siding Nailer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This nailer is like a german sports car. It's got power, performance and handles like a dream. The single most important feature for a good siding nailer is the ability to accurately dial in the depth that the nails are driven. For cedar, or cement board siding the depth of drive is crucial. This nailer lets you adjust the depth of drive with absolute accuracy. You can flush nail all day long and you almost never have to pull your hammer out to set a proud nail. In addition, this nailer is light at 4.6 pounds which is also important when your using it all day on a ladder or scaffolding.
The other feature that I love is that the nailer is extremely well balanced for a coil nailer. Most coil nailers are nose heavy because they don't have the stick housing to counter balance them. This nailer is not nose heavy and just has a great feel in your hand. Of all my tools, this is one of my favorites. I have not had a single jam and I've fired thousands and thousands of nails with it. This is a high performance tool, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has any amount of siding to put up. It's a time saver, and truly a joy to use.

View larger.Versatile Nailer Gets the Job Done QuicklyThe NV64AH is a versatile nailer that's compatible with both wire- and plastic-coated collated fasteners. It features a high-capacity magazine that accepts up to 300 1-1/2-inch to 2-1/2-inch-long nail coils with 0.099-inch diameters. The nailer's air inlet is 3/8 inch, and the ideal operating air pressure is 70-120 psi.
For further flexibility and efficiency, the NV65AH has two firing options: intermittent and continuous. Intermittent firing lets you use the nailer's trigger to control firing, while continuous firing plants a nail each time the NV65AH's no-mar nose cap touches your workpiece--a great feature for covering large areas.
For further convenience, nail-depth adjustments are quick and easy. Just turn the depth-adjuster knob to flush mount or countersink nails and get the right depth for your application.
Air Deflector Adjusts Without ToolsThe NV64AH features an adjustable air deflector that rotates 360 degrees to direct exhaust in any direction you choose. What's more, no tools are required to adjust the air deflector--simply turn the top cover to the desired position.

Hitachi DH38YE 1 1/2-Inch Spline Rotary Hammer Review

Hitachi DH38YE 1 1/2-Inch Spline Rotary Hammer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like most Hitachi tools , this is very well engineered. It stands up to all kinds of abuse. Mine ran for years drilling all sizes of holes in old hard concrete. I also used it for chipping which is hard on roto hammers. They don't have a lot of power for breaking concrete as this is not their intended primary use. So when you do use them for breaking , they have to run a lot longer than a demolition hammer would. It has pretty good power for drilling though. I bought mine used and had it for five years before replacing it recently. I went to SDS max which is currently replacing spline drive in the large rotary hammer market. It is a tighter mechanism which transfers more of the hammering power to the bit , resulting in faster drilling performance. If you have a lot of spline bits , this would be a good tool to buy. If you are starting from scratch , I would recommend the SDS max hammers from Hilti , Bosch or milwaukee
