Big Foot SBFXM 15 Amp 10-1/4-Inch Wormdrive Circular Saw with Big Foot T-Shirt Review

Bought the saw last week and used it on a project cutting glue laminated beams. Thought it was a little bit over priced but once I saw it in person, realized it was quite a substantial saw. I read the reviews concerning the Milwaukee and came to the conclusion of boning up more money for the Bigfoot. I suggest you do the same.
I was bummed that this saw didnt offer a case like the Milwaukee. None the less, you are getting a high quality saw. That is what really counts.
Nothing beats the performance of a worm drive saw.

Festool CT 33 E 8.7 Gallon Dust Extractor Review

Festool CT 33 E 8.7 Gallon Dust Extractor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, maybe. But, undoubtedly, it is the greatest shop vacuum I have ever owned. I've been using mine for a year and it integrates seemlessly with all of Festool's tools. And it is quiet. It is several, maybe even 10 dB, quieter than other shop vacs making this a pleasure to use.
It has infinitely variable speed. The wheels will lock in case you don't want it to roll. The vacuum allows you to plug another tool into the vacuum and the vacuum will automatically start when you turn on the tool. This feature was the primary reason I purchased this vacuum and this alone justifies the high price. When sanding a large piece of furniture through several grits, it is *so* convenient.
The vacuum is wired at 20 amps because when a tool and a vacuum are going at full tilt it can pull a lot of electricity. However, it comes with a pigtail adapter to plug into the much more common 15 amp circuits. So of course, a circuit breaker might trip if you pull a lot of electricty.
There are two methods for collecting dust--paper bags and an optional plastic tub that is available as an accessory. I use both. The bags are great for dust and the tub works fine for rough construction debris.

Milwaukee 0724-24 28-Volt V28 Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Cordless Hammer Drill/Driver Kit Review

Milwaukee 0724-24 28-Volt V28 Lithium-Ion 1/2-Inch Cordless Hammer Drill/Driver Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used Milwaukee's 18v drill for years (I own two of them) and they've never failed me. By far, the best cordless drill available... until now. When Milwaukee came out with their V28 line, I was intrigued, but I didn't need a new drill. Besides, the 18v drill I had worked fine, I didn't think it was necessary to upgrade (especially for the price). When it came time to buying a hammer drill, I looked again at the V28 hammer-drill and decided to buy one, figuring it would at least allow me to combine two tools into one and save the room in my car. I ended up getting a LOT more then I expected.
First, the belt clip is amazing. I didn't think twice about it when I read the drill's description, since I have a holster that works fine. The holster's now in the garbage as the belt clip is absolutely ingenious. Now I can easy attach the drill to my belt without looking and it's fully secure. With one hand I can push down on the latch and detach the drill for use... a marvelous idea. Best thing about it is I can also use it with my V28 flashlight when I need to.
Another thing I really like about this new drill is the bit holder... I always liked the idea of DeWalt's drill's holding the single bits, but Milwaukee provides a place for two. However, the only downside to this is if you use the drill in the hammer-drill setting, the bits tend to slide out after prolonged use.
Then there's the power... one of my first uses was drilling a 1" hole at an angle through two old 1x10 joists and a 2x4 in order to run a wire. I've done it several times with my old 18v, but I always end up having to reverse back a bit then start again to get a bit of momentum. If I can, I normally leave the job up to a corded drill to make things nice a quick. Not anymore... the V28 ripped right through the wood without the slightest problem. The power difference between the 18v and the V28 is shocking... you'd think you were using a corded drill.
The hammer-drill function was another big plus for me... I used this drill side by side with another corded Milwaukee hammer drill to drill numerous holes into a concrete foundation. The cordless worked just as well as the corded... no difference at all, except I wasn't lugging around a cord.
Lastly, there's the longevity of the charges... usually I'll go through at least one full battery and charge it on the site. Again, not anymore. I rarely need to use the second battery during a single day.
If I could, I'd give it six-stars. This thing is just incredible.

Makita 5005BA 5-1/2-Inch Circular Saw with Electric Brake Review

Makita 5005BA 5-1/2-Inch Circular Saw with Electric Brake
Average Reviews:

I have used many different circular saws and have a Bosch 7-1/4" contractors saw. It is a real workhorse, but is heavy. I have also used the old Rockwell trim saw, similar to the Porter Cable trim saw which has many reviews both pro and con. These little saws are lightweight and easy to use, but they lack power. The Makita 5005BA has plenty of power, is lightweight, the blade is on the left side, so it is easy to see your cut if you are right handed. And, unlike the old Rockwell or the new Porter Cable trim saws, the Makita 5005BA will cut a 2 x 4 with its 1-3/4" depth of cut. I bought a Makita plywood blade (as this is the main use for this saw) and it cuts a nice smooth splinter-free cut. The brake is an excellent safety feature. The blades are easy to find and buy. I spent several hours researching a lightweight circular saw. This one is the best I could find for the price.

This circular saw from Makita is lightweight and easy to handle. The blade, located on the left side, cuts up to 1-3/4-inch at 90 degrees and 1-3/16-inch at 45 degrees. The mighty 8-amp motor guarantees accuracy and speed. The shaft lock takes care of quick blade changes, and the electric brake ensures immediate stopping of the blade. The double insulated lock-off button keeps accidental starts from happening. This saw comes with a combination blade, rip fence, and socket wrench.

Festool MFT/3 Multifunction Table Review

Festool MFT/3 Multifunction Table
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Festool stuff is all really well made and well designed. I've been
buying and using Festool stuff for many years.
Most Festool is, however, meant for jobsite use.
There's a bit of a cult of Festool that, perhaps lacking
experience with heavy machinery and the demands of professional
cabinetmaking, believes that Festool is faster and more
accurate than stationary machines. It is not.
The Festool MFT tables are very, very useful for holding work
for sanding and routing. The illusion that you should not
have is that it is equal to a panel saw for production
cross-cutting of cabinet parts. It is not. This is why:
the frame is an bolted-together aluminum extrusion on four
legs. As a general workbench it is pretty sturdy and gives
you confidence. As a cross-cutting tool, it flexes and
inevitably drifts in and out of square. How square square is
depends on what you need to accomplish, but for professional
cabinetmaking it is not consistently square enough and requires
constant checking for accuracy.
In addition, the saw guide will dip into cuts a bit where the
guide is unsupported at the front end of the cut, a situation
that will occur often when using this table for crosscuts
under 24". You can mitigate the dipping factor by supporting
the guide with pieces of scrap, but it's another thing to
remember to do if you want the best cut quality. Additionally
there is some blade flutter from the plunge saws. The saws
are great for what they are, and runout is as minimal as you
could ask for a portable saw, but in use (especially in hardwoods)
the blade will deflect here and there.
The result is that cuts will not be totally consistent and in
either axis from piece to piece, particularly in solid woods
thicker than 1 inch. I've cut rails and styles for many doors
using the Festool system and in conclusion I will say that
while the Festool beats a miter saw for versatility, for
accuracy in crosscutting cabinet parts within its capacity,
a $150 10" or 8.5" (name brand) miter saw will outperform the
Festool table in terms of consistency from piece to piece.
So, it's a darned useful tool for holding work for sanding and
routing and as a versatile bench for jobsite use it is
exceptionally versatile and delivers accurate-enough crosscuts -
but it is no substitute for a stationary panel-squaring set-up
for professional use in the workshop. It's a good tool, but
don't buy the hype. If you're a pro cabinetmaker you'll need
something else for everyday panel squaring.

Angle stop stabilizes fence end to ensure accurate cuts. View larger.Large, Versatile, and Portable Work AreaBuilt to be sturdy, the Festool MFT/3 Multifunction Table offers a workspace that measure 43-3/8-inches by 28-1/4-inches, and can support loads up to 260 pounds. Whether you're cutting, routing, sanding, or simply prepping materials for assembly, this ergonomically designed table places your work at the perfect height of 35-7/16 inches, so you can focus on the task at hand instead of worrying about back strain or awkward tool positioning.
If you need more workspace than a single table offers, the table's integrated T-groove side rails can be used to quickly and easily connect two or more Multi-Function Tables to one another. Optional connectors (not included) fit into the side rails to create a sturdy, gap-free bridge.
The multifunction table weighs 54 pounds, allowing you to move it around your workshop or transport it to and from job sites.
Perforated Top Makes Clamping EasyDesigned to work with a large assortment of Festool clamps, the MFT/3 Multifunction Table offers a wide variety of clamping configurations that are ideally suited to both traditional materials and awkward, or oddly shaped, materials.
The table's perforated work surface offers plenty of attachment points. And while previous models of the Multifunction Table used a coarse wood screw for attaching the top, this most recent incarnation offers threaded inserts. These inserts not only prevent damage from over-torquing, but also establish a reference point that makes attaching the top quicker and easier.
Folding Legs Offer Safety, Utility, and Easy TransportFolding legs make transporting the MFT/3 Multifunction Table to and from job sites easy by providing it with a lightweight, compact profile. The tensioning knobs for the legs are placed far enough from the sides of the table so that you don't have to worry about pinching or banging your hands as you secure the legs. And while you're working you don't have to worry about the table sliding or marking floor surfaces, thanks to the rubber foot caps on the legs.
By allowing you to place the work surface cleanly on the ground, the table's folding design also offers a second workable configuration that's ideal for keeping your tools and clamps at hand for applications like installing flooring.
Includes Guide Rail, Angle Unit, and Angle StopAble to deliver precise, splinter-free cuts that are safer than cuts made with a conventional table or radial arm saw, the MFT/3's integrated guide-rail system allows you to make accurate cuts up to three inches deep. Plus it can handle materials that measure up to 27-9/16 inches wide.
In addition, the included angle unit allows for precise, repeatable cuts. Featuring detents at common angles and an easy-to-adjust design, this unit allows you to leave the guide rail and saw in one place while repositioning the work piece and fence. Compared to a miter saw setup where the entire saw head must be repositioned, this saves you time and frustration when it comes time to change cut angles. Plus the angle nit attaches to the table using the V-Groove side rail, enabling easy repositioning, removal, or reattachment.
Also included is an angle stop, which also attaches to the Multi-Function Table using the V-Groove side rail. This stop prevents movement of the angle unit by stabilizing the end of the fence, and it can easily be removed or repositioned using a simple, secure locking knob.
The Festool MFT/3 Multifunction Table is backed by a three-year limited warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Porter-Cable 314 4.5 Amp 4-1/2-Inch Trim Saw Review

Porter-Cable 314 4.5 Amp 4-1/2-Inch Trim Saw
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had a Porter-Cable 0314 4-1/2" Trim Saw since the 1980s - and it was such a good design, the current version is virtually identical. (E.g., mine has round knobs; new knobs are triangular!) Being corded, it will also be just as good 20 years from now, given that I won't use often enough to wear it out. This is one tool to hand down to your children...
One reviewer suggested buying a battery powered trim saw. That might be a smart choice if you will use the tool often; e.g., weekly. Otherwise, this saw, over the long haul, will be MUCH less costly because it will never need battery, or tool, replacement. Every battery-operated tool manufacturer periodically changes/improves their battery design. Next generation batteries probably won't fit your [old] tool and/or will be a different voltage. So, when the batteries die, and they all will, you'll have to replace the two batteries - and they are expensive. Or, "your" batteries will no be longer available, so you'll have to buy a new saw.
Another reviewer said his saw's sole plate was "out of parallel with the saw blade 3/64" over the length of the plate. Mine is also off, but only by 1/64"; which hasn't been an issue when using a straightedge to guide the saw. If it were, some judiciously placed thin washers in the adjusting mechanism would bring that to zero.
Still another reviewer said his saw's sole plate was "flimsy and inaccurate". I don't understand that comment, unless Porter Cable has used different plates. The sole plate on my saw is very stiff steel, 1/16" thick - rolled at the edges for strength, and is attached to the saw in four places - it doesn't flex and works exactly as expected.
This is a lightweight; very portable and maneuverable saw; having less torque & power than a full-sized circular saw. Those are distinct advantages in many situations, such as using it vertically or over your head, or when cutting trim-sized stock. On some jobs it's just more practical to use a small saw. It's also safer than a large saw because it's lower torque means a reduced chance of the saw getting away from you. E.g., my wife wouldn't use my [huge] worm-drive or standard-sized circular saws, but this one is perfect for her.
I've been happiest with this saw since a carbide blade was installed some years ago. Although this is a terrific TRIM saw, I wouldn't recommend it for the ONLY circular saw in your toolbox. This is because maximum cutting depths are too shallow for 2x4s and other thicker stock, and because it cuts much slower (on heavy stock) than a bigger, more powerful, saw. It is a well-designed, professional grade tool.
