Hitachi C10RB 10-Inch Portable Jobsite Table Saw with Stand Review

While shopping for table saws the most important factors I considered were: value, portability, ease of use, and accuracy. After comparrison shopping I found this saw to be an incredible value at $279. As for portability this saw without stand weighs in around 53 pounds which makes it easy on the back. All the controls are upfront and easy to use and I had no problem setting this saw up right out of the box without the manual. The only draw back... accuracy. After attaching the factory blade and ripping a few boards I was fairly disappointed with my cuts, however realizing that the factory blade was rather cheap, I went down to the local hardware store and picked up a freud diablo blade and slapped it on and realligned everything. After that this saw cuts like a dream. In conclusion you get a lot of bang for your buck with this saw, I would just recommend upgrading the cheap factory blade for a better one.

I don't even know where to start with how poor of a performer this table saw was. First of all, getting the blade 90 degrees to the table was nearly impossible. It shipped about 5 degrees out. To adjust the 90 degree stop you loosen a screw in the top... well even loosened it seemed to have a memory, requires me to literally FORCE the blade over to as close to 90 degrees I could get it, then hopefully get the lock tighened down before it slipped. Then, trying to change to another angle (on purpose) was very difficult because of the force required to start the motor & blade assembly moving. Once you broke it free it would fly all the way over to the 45 degree angle (or at least you WISH it was 45 degrees) Getting anything inbetween required some kinda luck.
So ok, on to cutting. The unit is so lightweight that trying to rip a 2x6 in half the saw just kept sliding across the floor when I would feed it into the blade. So I set the saw on some plywood to give it more grip, which worked, till it started tipping over on me. Not a very safe scenario here. Once I finally weighed it down so it wouldn't move the cuts were difficult to keep straight because the rip fence would left & right 1/4" on the far end. You have to be very careful not to end up with a tapered or otherwise defective cut.
The miter guage is pretty much useless as there's a lot of play in the slot and no kind of positive stops for 90, 45, or anything else you'd want to cut.
I don't know what else to say, other than the cord wrap was nice and it has blade storage on the side. It was powerful enough to rip wet 2x pressure treated material, if you could get the saw set up to not tip over or slide on you.

This bad boy can take an ordinary bench saw and turn it into a high end cutting machine. I bought one for my Makita 2708 about six years ago. Let me tell you , it just made the saw so much more useful. Not only do you get increased capacity , you get increased safety. This thing is rock solid. If you buy this spend a little more and buy the outfeed table. The whole setup is very impressive. Sheet goods , even by yourself, are a piece of cake. Long stock is no problem. You don't have to push the stock half way and then hurry and jump around back to pull it the rest of the way through. Just safely and smoothly push it through from the front. After having one of these for so long , I can't stand using someone elses table saw.Unless they have this or a rousseau. Even the new Dewalt and Bosch saws are no match for this. When I got my new Makita 2703 I bought the rousseau instead of another Trojan. There are many differences. The advantages this has over the rousseau:
1 It's much easier to set up. 2 It's much easier to move around 3 It stores as one unit 4 It's lighter 5 It has wheels so you don't have to carry it
Now the advantages of the rousseau:
1 You're not stuck with the whole unit all the time 2 For small jobs you can use the saw by itself 3 It's more stable 4 It's built heavier 5 The fence is Wider and longer and operates more smoothly 6 The Table has formica on top and bottom , not melamine on just the top 7 The outfeed table adds even more stability 8 You can't lose the legs as they are part of the design
Either way you can't go wrong!

As a home-business owner, I have some pretty big concerns in my budget and do my research for tools. I owned a $100 tablesaw I bought from the hardware store, and have had problems with the blades / spindle not cutting accurately. After going to all the hardware stores in the area, I found the problem was the same with all saws in the class. The direct-drive saws present issues keeping the blades rigid. This tablesaw from Jet was the only one with a belt-drive, that took the tension off the motor spindle allowing it to remain rigid and reduce viabration. It is also supported by all the accessories that Jet sells that are compatible with it. For the price, in its class - it is the best, simply because it uses the v-belt design on the spindle.

Ridgid R4510 Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw with Stand Review

Better than expected. First I must say after reading 50 to 100 reviews I've determined that most people are brand diehards; you know a Chevy guy will almost always be a Chevy guy and a Ford guy will almost always stay a Ford guy. I started out thinking I would buy the Craftsman portable table saw with the built in router table, I checked out Makita, Bosch, Dewalt, Ryobi and a few others. However, after reading the reviews, checking out the jobsite saws in person and after watching the Ridgid 14648 demonstated on [...], I thought that was the saw I needed. Most of the reviews rated the Ridgid a notch better than the rest. I went to my local Home Depot and found that the Ridgid 14648 on display was not the model in the box so I went to all four HDs in my local area and none had a Ridgid 14648 in the box. So now what do I do? All the display models were missing pieces. Seems while I was searching others were buying. The R4510 had a different stand, tool storage and the blade guard. I also found that not all the boxed saws showed the blade guard and anti-kick back pawls nor listed them on the box. Well I found one HD that had one Ridgid R4510 left in stock, the week before they had two. Even the HD website said this model wasn't available and it had been two weeks before. Many websites listed this saw for about $695; a more popular price was $574 and one for $522. Home Depot had it for $499. I found that many people were listing this saw used for $499. I'm now glad I bought the Ridgid R4510.
Pros
1. The gravity-rise stand is very good; super easy to fold and unfold. I have a Delta gas assisted stand for my miter saw and I thought it was great but the Ridgid is "first rate". The left side of the stand also will support plywood when ripping it.
2. The right side of the table expands to 25", just lift the lever, slide the table out and push the locking lever back down.
3. The rip fence and blade were aligned right out of the box and the rip fence slides very smoothly.
4. Setup time: 15 minutes to read the manual and 5 minutes to put the rip fence, miter gage, push stick, blade guard and anti-kickback pawls on the saw. Oh! And five minutes to unbox the saw.
5. The R4510 has a split blade guard for bevel cuts, spreader/riving knives, push stick, and anti-kickback pawls.
6. The onboard tool and cord storage work great.
7. Has built in chip/dust collection port good for a shop vac.
8. The large wheels work great for a bumpy area.
9. Heavy enough to stay in place while ripping.
10. Send in the registration and it has a lifetime service warranty to the original purchaser.Note: I saw a

I had purchased a small contractor DeWalt 745 saw. It was a great little saw. But I wanted the larger 744x unit. I need a bigger fence area. Got the first 744 and it had a problem with the rack and pinion fence. It was so tight It wouldn' move. Tried adjusting it via the owners manual to no avail. Amazon shipped another unit and to my dismay it also had a rack and pinion AND fence problem. The fence would hang on the right miter slot. And the pinion gears jumped off the track when trying to adjust the fence. I'm very dissappointed in the factory setup on these saws. Poor quality control. I believe once I get beyond these poor factory quality issues I might have a good saw. But frankly, I would think twice before purchasing a DeWalt saw agaain . . .

A friend got this six months ago for job-site use. It cut pretty well right from the box. The fence has a rack-and-pinion system that is clever, but not quite perfect. We measured the alignment error and have two fixes. If you want to know about them so you can save some money, read on...
Using a TS Aligner, we checked the alignment of the fence. The fence was near-perfect when we backed up to the mark, (going right) but it skewed by as much as four or five-thousandths when we moved the fence to the left. That's because the connecting rod between the two gears flexes and there is some "slop" or "play" in the gears. This is more noticeable when approaching the mark from the right. Sometimes this is referred to "lash-back or back-lash."
The easy work-around was to always go past the mark (an inch or so to the left) , then roll the knob back slowly right to the mark and try not to overshoot. That works OK, and it is free, but it is a time-wasting nuisance and won't provide the consistent accuracy that good woodworking requires.
SO... we replaced the flimsy metal rod that connects the two rack-gears. Instead of the stock rod, we used hardened O1 tool rod, which doesn't twist or flex as easily. The rod costs $12 bucks. We also adjusted the two gears to remove the slop. (loosen set screw, twist gears forward together, then re-tighten) Now we had fair fence parallelism in both directions. Not bad for a twelve-dollar fix... but there is more.
After using the saw a while, several of us noticed it made burns marks even with reasonable feed-rates and a new blade. One rainy day, we got out the TS aligner again and checked all the critical alignments. Dewalt uses decent bearings, so the runout was not too bad. But there were a number of other small inaccuracies that added up: arbor run-out, slot-parallelism, fence alignment, blade-alignment etc.
It took about an hour of measuring, but the Dial indicator with the TS Aligner helped us get everything literally "dialed-in." Now this thing cuts as smoothly and accurately as our five-thousand dollar cabinet saws.
The secret is to choose a saw with good bearings and a design that allows adjustments.
Dewalt and Bosch contractor saws both qualify.
Use a dial indicator with a TS Aligner to accurately measure and adjust EVERYTHING. It takes an hour, but it is worth the effort MANY times over. If you buy a new saw in the box, you have to assemble it anyway, so that isn't much more work. ... You can get professional precision at a fraction of the cost of a cabinet saw. If you don't have a TS aligner, you can use a dial indicator with a magnetic base and a 1-2-3 block set.
We cut all kinds of mitered molding and trim. We make custom installations and complex speaker cabinets that require EXACT cuts. After we adjusted this with the TS Aligner, the noise-level was lower and blades stay sharp much longer. That's always a good sign!
The beautiful thing about this saw is that we can take it to a site, make measurements on a story-pole and cut exactly to the mark, repeatably and reliably. The saw's design allows you to adjust it, assuming you have the right adjustment tools. Those tools are inexpensive and pay for themselves very quickly. You get your money back fast because you waste less wood, blades last longer and the motor runs cooler when everything on the saw is tuned up.
This is a good saw because you can adjust it and it has accurate bearings. It takes some tweaking, but with a TS Aligner and a cheap dial indicator, you can get many times your money's worth! (About FIVE times in fact!) Highly recommended!
