InSinkErator 1 HP Stainless Food Waste Disposer #777SS Review

The InSinkErator 777ss is the king of household garbage disposals. I have installed one in my kitchen and my only regret is that I did not do it sooner. It is powerful, fast, and very quiet. It has stainless steel components, a great warrantee, and is made in the USA.
The manufacturer's literature implies that it is suitable for grinding bones (on the customer response card), but I don't recommend it if your goal is long service life.
It has directions for the do-it-yourselfer, and is easy to install, with one potential caveat, which is the actual joining to the plumbing, which while not a big deal, may be more time consuming than the directions imply for those of us that aren't professional plumbers. This unit is also available at many retail stores at very competitive prices if you find yourself in urgent need of a replacement disposal and can't wait for shipping.
I am especially impressed with the speed and quietness of the 777ss, and highly recommend it to anyone in need of a new garbage disposal.

InSinkErator Evolution Excel 1.0 HP Household Food Waste Disposer Review

InSinkErator Evolution Excel 1.0 HP Household Food Waste Disposer

I recently purchased one of these and am pleased with the power, capacity, versatility, and especially the quiet operation. However, the installation was more than i had anticipated.
Assuming that you are replacing another disposer that is more than a few years old, you should be prepared to replace much of the surrounding hardware including the dishwasher anti-siphon valve, hose, and clamps. This disposer does not come with a power cord and the instructions direct you to use the one from your old unit. In fact, you will probably need to buy a new cord made specifically for the ISE, especially if your old disposer is another make; ISE's have a special strain-relief clamp which will prevent the cord from being yanked out. While you're under the sink you may as well check for leaks, replace the contact paper and patch any drywall knocks that have happened over the years.
The real gotcha with the Evolution Series is that it's wider than most other models, which means that you'll probably need to cut and realign PVC drain pipes to make it fit. For me this involved 3-dimensional measurements, trigonometry, and second-guessing about why somebody before me installed drain pipe that way in the first place. The wider body of the Evolution also means you will have less under-sink storage space available, which might be the difference between keeping a trash container down there or not.
ISE also makes a lower-capacity Evolution model that is just as powerful and has dimensions more similar to their Badger line. If i had it to do again, i would have gotten the smaller one instead and hopefully avoided the PVC work. Still, this is a great disposer now that it's in place.

InSinkErator Evolution Series DisposersEvolution Series Disposers feature patented MultiGrind and SoundSeal technologies, which means they grind more with less noise. The Evolution Excel Food Waste Disposer is the ultimate in performance--the top-of-the line Evolution Series product. It's perfect for those who enjoy the very best kitchen appliances, because it cuts noise levels by at least 60% over standard disposers and features three-stage grind technology that lets you grind almost any food waste, including celery, potato peels, chicken bones, and more.
Evolution Technology: Grind More, Hear LessFor the past eight decades, InSinkErator has built more than 100 million food waste disposers. Now the company has put everything it has learned into a line of disposers that sets dramatic new standards for performance. Evolution Series disposers feature innovative technologies--MultiGrind and SoundSeal--that address users' two most common requests: improved grinding ability and reduced noise.

'Evolutionary' Disposer is Easy to InstallDesigned with a 1.0-horsepower Dura-Drive Induction Motor, the Evolution Excel is truly 'evolutionary'--giving you the most horsepower of any food waste disposer on the market. An added bonus, the Evolution Excel's 40-ounce stainless steel grind chamber and grind component is built to handle more volume than other disposers.

The Evolution Excel food waste disposer is constructed with a stainless steel Quick Lock sink mount for easy installation. All InSinkErator food waste disposers are built with this feature, making replacement of older units a breeze--simply disconnect and replace your old disposer using the same sink mount.

Environmentally Friendly, Wallet-Friendly ChoiceThe Evolution Excel food waste disposer is a practical and environmentally responsible way to help reduce the 31 million tons of solid waste generated from food scraps in the U.S. each year.

Instead of throwing this food waste away, grinding it with the Evolution Excel sends it to your local municipal wastewater treatment plant, where it can be recycled to produce methane, a renewable source of power for the plant. Additionally, wastewater treatment plants can process food waste into biosolids to be used as fertilizer (check the plant in your area).

Food waste disposers average less than 50 cents a year in electricity to operate and account for less than one percent of ahousehold's total water consumption. In fact, the Evolution Excel features an average water usage of one gallon per person per day and an average electrical usage of three to four kilowatt hours per year, making it among the least expensive installed kitchen appliances.

We Come To You Parts and Labor WarrantyThe Evolution Excel is backed by an exclusive seven-year We Come to You In-Home Service Warranty. This warranty from InSinkErator includes free house calls (including parts and labor) for the entire warranty period.

KitchenAid Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal Review

KitchenAid Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal
Average Reviews:

Good points:
My previous disposal froze up, and couldn't be broken loose again. When you turned it on, it just made a quiet humming noise. This KitchenAid disposal makes the same amount of noise as that when it is working. Very quiet. They have a 1HP model that is supposed to be even quieter, but I think that is unnecessary. Even when chewing on two cups of ice, the amount of noise is just slightly louder than the running water from the sink. 3/4 horsepower is plenty for a residential kitchen as well. The only possible reason for going with the larger 1HP model is that it supposedly has an extra grinding stage (3 versus 2 in this one) that grinds up things smaller. If you had a septic tank instead of sewer service, that might be worth considering.
Otherwise, this monster is such an upgrade over the standard builder grade disposals and the common Insinkerator "Badger" models that you'll almost certainly be happy if you're coming from one of those. The internals of this model are made by Insinkerator, and are the same as the Evolution Essential. I bought it because the Kitchen Aid version wound up being cheaper.
Also nice is that the rubber guard that fills the drain hole is easily removable, That is very nice, and not something that is common. You can just pull it out, clean it without having to worry about sticking your hand down in the disposal, and put it back.
Bad points:
This unit does not include the pieces you need to connect it electrically. So be sure to save the power cord off your old disposal. The necessary parts (strain relief, wire nuts, power cable) can be had pretty easily/inexpensively at the hardware store of your choice, but be aware that you'll need to purchase them.Things to consider:
This disposal is physically big, There is a good chance you'll wind up with less space under your sink than you had before, so keep that in mind. The extra size may mean you have to cut some of your existing plumbing because it would be too long. Big grinding chambers, noise insulation and 3/4 horsepower motors need a big package.
The dishwasher inlet hole is optional and sealed. If you're using it, be sure you don't forget to punch out the plastic piece sealing it. Its in the manual, but you might overlook it.
The install was pretty easy. The sum total of my previous similar experience was replacing the drain in the kitchen sink (not all the plumbing, just the piece in the sink).

InSinkErator Evolution Septic Assist 3/4 HP Household Food Waste Disposer Review

InSinkErator Evolution Septic Assist 3/4 HP Household Food Waste Disposer

This is the 2nd disposal that I have installed. Our old house was on county sewer, so we did not need the added benefits of the Septic Assist. It was much more difficult to install than the new one.
The box includes nearly everything you need to install it. The only other things you need to have on hand is the plumber's putty to seal the flange in the sink, and some romex to attach the power. I did the job solo, but it would have been helpful to have another pair of hands to hold the drain in the sink while I cliped on the locking ring. Now that InSinkErator has the removable rubber seal that slips into the drain from the top, mounting the unit to the twist lock under the sink was a breeze. Since the power was already run to an outlet under the sink, I had this installed in under an hour.
I don't know how long the bottle of Septic Assist will last, but we have used it for a week without a noticable lowering of the contents of the bottle.
Running the unit is much quieter than the old ones. It's not silent, but the combination of vibration dampers and insulated chassis makes it quiet enough to talk over. It's more of a hum than a roar.
All in all, a relief to have a disposal again at the new house. Of course, only time will tell what impact it will have when we need to get the septic pumped. We plan to have it pumped every 2 years in order to keep the risk of overflow to a minimum.
