Because the manufacturers want the pipe to fill up completely with fresh hot water, rather than start with cool water already in the pipe, it also continues expelling hot water after the lever is released. My old unit continued for about 2 seconds. This one continues for about 5 seconds. I can live with that.

Our counter top is over two inches. On a call to their 800 number they acknowledged that they have recognized the problem and the new models they are just now manufacturing have the deeper throats. which will fit counter tops of various thicknesses. It is unfortunate that neither in the on line product descriptions or on the exterior of the box was there any mention that the unit would fit only counter tops of less than one inch thick without a jerry rigged extension of some sort which you have to special order from the company..

(More customer reviews)If you listen to InSinkErator you will end up purchasing a new unit if not under warranty. The unit is easily fixed see below my instructions. I did pass this on to thier Customer Service hopefully they will review it and publish the instructions for everyone. It takes no parts just minor disassembling and cleaning.
You can easily repair the faucet handle sticking problem from the top.
1.) turn off water - actually you could leave on
2.) using a 3/4 inch open end wrench to remove small retaining cap holding handles in faucet. If you look close you will notice flat sections on cap. Be carefull not to mar finish.
3.) Then pop off handle pivot cap with a small flat screwdriver exposing the stuck plunger. There is hex cap that hold plunger assembly in but you would need a very thin wall socket to remove entire plunger assembly.
4.) Clean as much green goo from plunger area with paper towels and a tooth-pic.
5.) Fill with WD40 cover entire plunger leave soaking over night. (don't use solvents!)
6.) This should loosen remaing debris. Also work plunger up and down, a 1/4 inch extension works good for this.
7. ) reassemble and you should be as good as new.
In-Sink-Erator only wants to sell a new faucet they don't offer and rebuild kit even though the faucet can be repair from top without removing from sink. My faucet works like new after I was done I added vasoline over plunger area hopefully to keep debris out.

(More customer reviews)I bought this and started installing it. I'm sure it's exceptional for someone who wants to mount this on a stainless steel sink. I have a 1-inch thick stone counter-top. While it does have a 3-inch plastic extender sleeve for thicker counter-tops, the sleeve makes the unit WIDER and this means drilling a wider hole in your stone counter-top. If you want to drill wider than normal holes in your stone counter top, you might like this. I really don't want to be drilling non-standard holes in my counter-top. The box and instructions don't tell you this. They say it will work on thick counters, but they don't say you'll need to drill non-standard holes in your counter-top to do it. You might think this is fine, but for me, The counter-top is way less replaceable and I want it to conform to spec. I'm just saying, folks with stone counter-tops need to think this through before they buy this particular hot water dispenser. I boxed it back up and plan to return it.

InSinkErator Evolution Excel 1.0 HP Household Food Waste Disposer Review

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased one of these and am pleased with the power, capacity, versatility, and especially the quiet operation. However, the installation was more than i had anticipated.
Assuming that you are replacing another disposer that is more than a few years old, you should be prepared to replace much of the surrounding hardware including the dishwasher anti-siphon valve, hose, and clamps. This disposer does not come with a power cord and the instructions direct you to use the one from your old unit. In fact, you will probably need to buy a new cord made specifically for the ISE, especially if your old disposer is another make; ISE's have a special strain-relief clamp which will prevent the cord from being yanked out. While you're under the sink you may as well check for leaks, replace the contact paper and patch any drywall knocks that have happened over the years.
The real gotcha with the Evolution Series is that it's wider than most other models, which means that you'll probably need to cut and realign PVC drain pipes to make it fit. For me this involved 3-dimensional measurements, trigonometry, and second-guessing about why somebody before me installed drain pipe that way in the first place. The wider body of the Evolution also means you will have less under-sink storage space available, which might be the difference between keeping a trash container down there or not.
ISE also makes a lower-capacity Evolution model that is just as powerful and has dimensions more similar to their Badger line. If i had it to do again, i would have gotten the smaller one instead and hopefully avoided the PVC work. Still, this is a great disposer now that it's in place.

(More customer reviews)This is the 2nd disposal that I have installed. Our old house was on county sewer, so we did not need the added benefits of the Septic Assist. It was much more difficult to install than the new one.
The box includes nearly everything you need to install it. The only other things you need to have on hand is the plumber's putty to seal the flange in the sink, and some romex to attach the power. I did the job solo, but it would have been helpful to have another pair of hands to hold the drain in the sink while I cliped on the locking ring. Now that InSinkErator has the removable rubber seal that slips into the drain from the top, mounting the unit to the twist lock under the sink was a breeze. Since the power was already run to an outlet under the sink, I had this installed in under an hour.
I don't know how long the bottle of Septic Assist will last, but we have used it for a week without a noticable lowering of the contents of the bottle.
Running the unit is much quieter than the old ones. It's not silent, but the combination of vibration dampers and insulated chassis makes it quiet enough to talk over. It's more of a hum than a roar.
All in all, a relief to have a disposal again at the new house. Of course, only time will tell what impact it will have when we need to get the septic pumped. We plan to have it pumped every 2 years in order to keep the risk of overflow to a minimum.
