Palmgren 32803 83 Rotary Cross 8.0-Inch Top Slide Table Review

Palmgren 32803 83 Rotary Cross 8.0-Inch Top Slide Table
Average Reviews:

We received the rotary cross slide table and were surprised by the age of the table. Although it is still in its original packaging, it is not the current model. My guess is that it is 15+ years old. The x and y movements are hard due to the age (it takes two hands). The unit will have to be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated. See the "customer image" that I uploaded for the actual picture of the unit.

Powermatic PM2800 1792800 18-Inch Variable Speed Drill Press Review

Powermatic PM2800 1792800 18-Inch Variable Speed Drill Press
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First the Pros:
I have always looked on with envy when some of my woodworking friends show off their latest Powermatic tool and so recently when I decided to upgrade my much older drill press, I gulped a couple of times when I saw the price tag on the Powermatic PM2800 but finally convinced myself that I had to have it. Without a doubt it is a feature loaded superbly crafted drill press. The Morse 5/8" chuck, the 1 HP motor, the laser cross hair, the large expandable work surface and the variable speed control with the LED spindle speed readout were features that were lacking on the older press and after you experiences how convenient these are you can't help wondering how you ever got along without them.
The cons:
That said, there were a couple of things that left me with a less than satisfied feeling that this may just not be the drill press for me. Let me explain...I estimate that about 25% of the time I use a drill press for metal work as opposed to woodwork. When doing the metalwork I use a machinist vice that I clamp in place on the drill press table and the table on the Powermatic is not designed to accommodate this vise. The other problem is the lowest speed available is 400 RPM and I need to have 300RPM or less when drilling into steel. I did manage to come up with a method to attach the vice to the table using the T-slots but I don't know of any way that I can overcome the lack of a lower speed. Of course none of this detracts from the high quality of this tool. In my desire to acquire my first Powermatic I failed to consider all the ways I use a drill press So I guess I'll just keep the old drill press for my metal work.
ress.

Durable and VersatileWith high-end castings and ultra-tough steel components, the PM2800 is as durable as it is versatile. The three and one-eighth-inch diameter steel column, over-sized quill, and cast-iron table system providethe rigidity needed for true accuracy and repeatability. The all cast-iron base offers stability, decreases vibrations, and comes with holes in each corner for securing the PM2800 to a suitable floor.

Lights and Laser for AccuracyTo help ensure optimum accuracy, the PM2800 boasts a pair of strategically located LED work lights that are bright enoughto make seeing layout marks easy, but mounted on the underside of the head to prevent glaring. A simple push-button On/Offswitch lets you use the LED lights only when needed.

There's also a high-quality, keyless, 5/8-inch capacity chuck for effortless bitchanges, and a quill (spindle) assembly with full 4-3/8-inch plunge capacity.
Finger-operated depth stops make it easy tolimit drilling depth for repetitive jobs, while three large handles make plunging the spindle easy, even when drilling largeholes in tough woods.

Shop Fox W1668 3/4 HP 13-Inch Bench-Top Drill Press Review

Shop Fox W1668 3/4 HP 13-Inch Bench-Top Drill Press

The press was well packaged and undamaged. The instruction and assembly manual did not completely match the drill press I received. I guess, if you can't figure out how to put it together, you shouldn't be using it anyway. I have a small shop. Everything is on casters. For my shop, it's perfect. Easy to operate, change drill speeds and engage the oscillating feature. It comes with a set of sanding drums. The mounting hardware doesn't hold on to the sanding drum very well, but it works. I added a 3/4" plywood deck to the adjustable platform for sanding and drilling larger stock. This helps in keeping your stock square to the drill or sanding drum. The oscillating feature works well, but you need to be careful how much pressure you place on the object you are sanding to keep from damaging the mechanism. Once you figure out the proper pressure on the sanding drum, the results are quite good. The extra money you pay for all the features is worth it.

Milwaukee 4270-20 9 Amp Compact Electromagnetic Drill Press Review

If you have to drill hundreds of holes, this is the tool. I had to drill about 175 holes through the flange of W14x43 steel. This size steel has 1/2" thick flanges. I drilled a 7/16" hole through in seconds. It's amazing! The magnet is very powerfull. I put all my weight (175lbs) on it and it wouldn't budge. It comes with a safety strap and use it, especially if your working with a crew that might accidently cut off your power supply for what ever reason. It paid for it self on this one job for me.

Although this tool is some what limited in use it performs excellent for the purpose it was designed for. I have used this tool to drill and tap many holes in machine bases and bolster plates that were too large or could not be moved to a drill press. With a good lay out job and heavy center punch you can accurately place the Mag Drill on center each time. The base of the tool is also a de-magnetizer for easy removal of chips and clean up.

DELTA 17-950L 16.5-Inch TwinLaser Crosshair Drill Press Review

DELTA 17-950L 16.5-Inch TwinLaser Crosshair Drill Press
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently received the Delta 17-950L drill press and for the price after the current Amazon promotion, it's hard to beat. It is a well built machine that arrived in 1 business day via Eagle Global Logistics. I had no problems really assembling the unit on my own. The top is a little heavy, but I got it.
Positives:
- Smooth running with little vibration. It's not glass smooth, but it certainly is not rough. It runs just fine at 3000rpm
- Runout is very good, thanks to the larger 2" quill
- The table is finished nicely and is large. I installed a 68 pound Palmgren 6" cross sliding vise (take my advice and get a 4" for this size drill press) and the table assembly holds it fine. It makes it a bit more difficult to raise the table, but it's much better than I thought it would be.
- Assembly was easy and all of the parts were there.
- Laser assembly is very easy to adjust and aim.
- Allen wrenches and chuck removal tool are all included. All you need is a metric socket set or wrenches to assemble.
- Power seems to be good and I did not bog the unit down doing some wood and metal boring.
- Quill lock in the down position for using sanding drums, etc.
Negatives:
- Depth stop adjustment is on the spoked handle and doesn't exactly come across as high quality
- A little bit of vibration, but nothing out of the ordinary really.
- 3-7/8" quill stroke is a little on the shallow side, but still better than a lot of the drill presses out there.
Overall this is a nice drill press. I still have a 20-959LX on order which is Delta's new and yet to be released 20" variable speed drill press with digital readouts. This drill press is basically 1/3rd of the cost of that machine, but I don't feel it can only do 1/3rd of the jobs. I'm sure that this machine will last many years. The laser works great and is very handy. The table is nice and while this is one the lower end drill presses in Delta's lineup, it runs great, drills great, and comes across as a quality piece of equipment. I have no doubt there are nicer drill presses out there, but for the price this one deserves a look.

You'll never have an inaccurate hole placement again. The large 14 x 18-inch cast iron table includes T-slots, a removable insert, and has the capacity to tilt up to 45 degrees forward so you can make angular drills. A flexible light is integrated to keep your workspace illuminated, and the table can be raised and lowered to your comfort level via a rack and pinion system.
