Neuton Battery Electric Lawn Mower Review

Neuton Battery Electric Lawn Mower

I was committed to purchasing an electric lawnmower. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of options and even fewer reviews so was hard to decide! Ultimately went with the neuton and have been very happy. It is extremely light and easy to maneuver and turn which is great b/c we have a couple of hills and narrow spaces on our lawn. I was worried b/c it is more narrow than some mowers (maybe 14"?) but that hasn't been a problem at all; in fact, it makes many parts of the yard easier to mow. Charges quickly and we haven't had any battery problems. Never ran out of charge on our small lawn (takes about 45"). It is quiet (not noiseless, but I can cut early in the morning without waking the neighbors) and cuts well. I'm thrilled not to have a cord, and it is easy to start and stop. Haven't used the mulcher or any other fancy accessories (the local sales guy said not to bother with buying those).

I would buy this again without hesitation and would recommend to others. I didn't give it 5 stars only b/c there are so few cordless electric mowers to choose from in 2005 that I can't imagine this is yet the model of perfection, but for the average small lawn owner (like me), it's a great machine.
Addendum 7/2006: now in our second season and no complaints. We love this machine; it was a great purchase for us.
Addendum 9/2007: third season, great machine. Now that I've seen its durability, I would give this product 5 starts (Amazon won't let me change my original rating).
Addendum 6/2009: fifth season, still totally satisfied with this machine. Blade became "unbalanced" and needed repair in year 4. Battery still going strong (we keep it plugged in all year).

We are on our second Pinguino after our first machine leaked on our carpet. We returned the unit now the second machine leaks aproximately 4 pints of water a day. Delonghi know they are selling a defective product. When you call customer service there is a promt for Penguinuo air conditioners!
They refuse to do anything about replacing this unit at no cost to me.

Designed for quickly cooling any room in the house, this thoughtfully designed portable air conditioner uses environmentally-friendly R410a refrigerant gas to help protect the environment and the ozone layer. Its refrigerant also provides energy-efficient operation, using less energy to deliver the same amount of cooling as other refrigerant types. The air conditioner produces 12,000 BTUs of cooling power and offers four different fan speeds depending upon the level of cooling desired. It also supplies an electronic control panel with an easy-to-read LCD display, a fully featured remote control, and a 24-hour programmable timer that turns the unit on at a specific time--great for coming home to a cool room at the end of the day. In addition to cooling the air, the unit also functions as a dehumidifier with a "dripless" system, which means no annoying bucket to empty. Other highlights include Sleep and Smart modes, built-in air filtration, an energy-efficient adjustable thermostat, and quiet performance thanks to the high-efficiency compressor and components, as well as durable caster wheels and side handles for portability. Accessories include a window bracket and an exhaust hose for easy installation. The unit effectively combines an air cooler, a dehumidifier, and an air cleaner all in one stylish design that will nicely complement any decor. Maybe you think it's no more than a kitchen appliance with delusions of grandeur. Well, electricity is not just for kitchen appliances and vacuum cleaners anymore ... I was tired of repeated trips to the repair shop with my gas mower, so I kicked it to the curb. Literally. I don't need a Cadillac mower for my Mini-Cooper lawn. In addition to the ease of plug in, turn on, and go ...
What I like:
- Light weight. Light enough to manuever with one hand while the other hand tends the cord on turns. ALSO, this holds easily going across an incline, rather than up, which is hard on the lower back, or down, which is hazardous.
- Height adjustment is spring-loaded, and counter-balanced just right. Raising and lowering cutting height is quick and easy. It lowers in a snap from preferred lawn cutting height to its lowest setting for grass or leaves on the drive or street, which quickly turn to near dust for ease of blow-off.
- It mulches great across the lawn; much, much better than the last 2 gas mowers I've owned. That's probably more due to design than power source -- but the mulching is the point. The clippings from one week's growth just disappear. And the St. Augustine grass common here in Florida doesn't mulch as easily as the bluegrass of Kentucky, as memory serves.
- A metal cutting deck, rather than the plastic offerings from a couple of competitors.
I can't speak to how well the bag works; haven't tried it. Bagging is a waste of time, effort, and fertilizer, imho ...
Drawbacks:
- uhhh ... It doesn't make enough noise to wake the neighbors. (Long story ...)
The padding on the handle is not durable. Not at all. But I see some padded bicycle handlebar tape in its future.

Nice product and once I worked out the wiring and circuit breaker needs it seems to work very well. I hooked it up to the current hoy water heater wiring and fuse only to find it needs a 60 amp fuse and 6 gage wiring from fuse block to heater..This was not too expensive because my heater is only a few feet from the fuse box the wire is $2 per foot and a new fuse was $8 so it added $50 to my bill and an hour running the wire through the crawl space. It does appear to work as promised, nice hot water instantly after connected.

NO TANK - SPACE SAVERNO LIMITNO WAITINGSAVE UP TO 60% ON WATER HEATING COSTS!One way to SAVE on domestic hot water bills is to use A DEMAND TYPE WATER HEATER. A conventional hot water system heats water in a tank to a specified temperature. As heat is lost from the tank, the water is reheated until it reaches the specified temperature again. For most of the day the water in the tank is not used, but it loses heat continually. DEMAND WATER HEATERS Eliminate this problem by heating water only as hot water is drawn. Facts: The average tank hot water Heater will supply only enough hot water for one or two showers before running out of hot water! Not with Titan Electronic Tankless Water Heater! IT IS EASY TO SEE WHY CONVENTIONAL WATER HEATERS ARE NO LONGER ECONOMICAL OR PRACTICAL... They consume electricity to heat water that is not being used, a process that repeats itself over and over even though no hot water is needed. The "TITAN Electronic Instant Water Heater" provides hot water ONLY when you need it, without the costly reheating process. An electronic component monitors the temperature of the water at different flow rates and maintains a pre-set temperature, allowing the use of conventional or single handle faucets.Professional Installation is highly recommended.

Factory-Reconditioned PowerStar AE125-RE Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater Review

Factory-Reconditioned PowerStar AE125-RE Whole House Electric Tankless Water Heater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this water heater for our guest house. After major rewiring and plumbing changes and drywall repair from the rewiring and plumbing, we were finally ready to install. The installation went well and at first it seemed the system was working. However, after a short period of time, the water was not staying hot. It fluctuated in temperature when taking a shower and trying to do dishes in the kitchen sink, it actually went cold. We thought something was wrong so we called CPO (where we bought it) to see about getting this unit replaced, and they referred us to Bosch. After troubleshooting with Bosch on the phone, changing settings, water flow, etc., over a period of a few hours, we were not getting the improvement we had hoped for. To get hot water, the water pressure had to be turned so low that you could not reasonably expect to take a bath...it took forever to fill the tub. We continued to try different settings for a couple of days, but we had guests coming and needed hot water (which we had tried to explain to Bosch) so we went to the big orange store and bought an identical unit for $649. That one worked much better and proved to us that something was wrong with the first unit. Trying to return the unit to CPO, they required an incident number from Bosch. Called Bosch to get an incident number (why didn't we get one in the first place?) and had to call back several times due to long waits on the phone. They will not give an incident number unless they determine the unit is defective. If the board needs to be replaced, they will replace that, but will not give us an incident number to return the unit. So now we have a paper weight that cost $400. CPO will take it back, but not without charging a restocking fee and shipping. Why would we want them to restock this and sell it to someone else? Our only recourse at this time is to get back on the phone with Bosch and try to have them determine whether or not this item is defective. Never mind that they would have us go without hot water the whole time. This has been frustrating and expensive. Also, even though we have one that works, it is not really robust enough for a whole house water heater. Better as a point of service heater, but then you better make sure you have a big enough electrical service in your house to manage everything else you need to use. We have 200 amps, but if we needed two of these units, we'd have to upgrade our service in order to accommodate the huge amount of power these things need up front. Don't buy one of these unless they get the technology more stable.

EDIT - 1/11/08 -------------------------------------------------
I've been having trouble with the Aquastar lately. It still works but doesn't like to work when the furnance is running. I assumed the furnance was drawing down the gas pressure in the line but after having the gas company out and an HVAC technician they both concluded the pressure is steady and sufficient. Contacting Bosch technical support has proven to be an exercize in patience to say the least. Each phone call (there have been 3) has taken a minimum of 50 minutes on hold. I've spoken to three different techs and have been given three different solutions. First call, very nice lady, apolgized for the wait, I told her the problems and she sent me a new control box (didn't work). The second time I called, the tech told me it was my problem and not the Aquastar. He said I had insufficient gas pressure (I didn't), said I had a vent back draft (tested, I didn't) basically he blew me off. He gave me the phone number of a local tech (wasn't local-40 miles away) that I'd have to pay for (because it was my problem) to come and diagnose my Aquastar. I decided to call back because I was very unhappy with the technical support I had just received. My intent was to make a complaint, but on my third call I talked to yet another tech who diagnosed yet another possibility. He sent me another part to replace, which still hasn't solved the problem. Which is where I'm at at the moment.
I've done some more research on the internet and it seems that Bosch Hotwater tech support is reknown for poor service. Unfortunately that's something you only find out when the unit isn't working.
I'll have to change my recommendation from a buy to a don't buy at this point based solely on customer service. Hot water is not something you can readily do without for any period of time and if you do have a problem with the Aquastar, waiting days to have it fixed is not a solution.
Another curious observation, why is there such a wait for tech support? Must be a lot of broken Aquastars out there.
END EDIT ------------------------------------------------I installed the Aquastar 1600H myself in about 3 hours. I bought it at Lowes and like the other reviewer, had to go to HomeDepot to buy the 5" class B ducting. I gave the Lowes sales ppl an ear full about that but it just went in one ear and out the other.
If you're comfortable with sweeting copper and plumbing your own gas lines its really not that difficult. My biggest problem was positioning the unit so I could vent the exhaust gases. If you don't have a straight vent stack and have to feed the exhaust into the chimney like I did, it required placing the unit really low on the wall. You are required to vent straight up for the first 12" before you can elbow the vent. Along with the minimum run vs. rise of the vent pipe, it forced me to place the unit just barely a foot off the ground. Your situation may be different but keep it in mind. Also, it requires a minimum of 3/4" inside diameter black iron gas pipe. In some cases if you're tapping into the same gas line as your furnance, you may have to install 1" gas line. This unit requires a lot of BTU's and if you choke down below 3/4" it will not run properly. So that means no yellow flexible line to make the last connection. You'll have to hard plumb the iron pipe all the way to the unit.
There are both benifits and negatives to this unit. First the benifits. Long, long, long showers. Literally, you can take a shower all day. Then the next person in line doesn't have to wait for the water to heat back up. It's ready to go. Great for a family getting ready in the morning. Second, big savings on the gas bill. My bill dropped $20 the month after I installed this unit. I figure it will pay for itself in less than two years after the tax credit.
Now for the negatives. Low hot water pressure. That takes some getting used to. The unit has a maximum 4.3 gpm, but that's really unreasonable.(Take into consideration that I'm in the Northern USA and the water in coming into the house is at 50 degrees.) At that flow rate the water doesn't heat up above 90 degrees. That makes it warm not hot. You have to turn down the flow rate to 2.3 gpm to heat the water to 120 degrees. At that flow rate / pressure, if you open two hot water spigots anywhere in the house at the same time it becomes a trickle. There is no way you could run the shower or any other appliance like the dishwasher or washing machine at the same time. If you turn the Aquastar back up to 4.3 gpm you could, but you'll be taking a warm shower not hot (in my case).
Also, at 2.3 gpm, it takes a long time for the hot water to actually get to the faucet. It probably takes 4 to 5 times longer than it used to for hot water to flow from the tap than it did with the old tank system. For example, if I'm washing my hands, by the time I'm done lathering up and rinsing, the water is just now starting to get hot. I've come to realize its not even worth turning the hot water on for short burst of hot water like that.
It takes adaptation to get use to this, like this trick I use in the morning. I turn the hot water on and brush my teeth while the water is slowly making it's way to the tap. Once it's hot, then I turn on the shower. Otherwise I have to let the shower flow for what seems like a very long time before it starts getting up to temperature.
Would I recommend this unit. It depends. If you really need the ability to run two showers or two appliances at the same time, then no way. You'll have to go with the next unit up that has a faster flow rate. There's no way this unit can handle that.
But if you think you can adapt to the low flow rate and really enjoy taking all day hot showers while saving money on your gas bill then this is the unit for you. I really enjoy the savings and long showers.
One more thing. The manual says you have to clean the unit once a year to maintain its efficiency. That means disassembling some parts in the unit. Clean them and put it back together. I haven't had to do this yet, but its just one more thing to consider before you switch to tankless hot water.

Gardena 4024 15-Inch Silent Push Reel Lawn Mower With Folding Ergonomic Handle 380C
Average Reviews:

This mower makes me wish I had a larger yard to mow more often. I'm outdoors, I can hear the birds, there is the smell of freshly cut grass but there is not the hammer of a small gasoline engine, the odor of hydrocarbon combustion nor the annoying trailing of a power cord. Mowing dry grass or even moist grass after a light morning shower here in the mountains of New Mexico becomes pleasant outdoor exercise approaching recreation. The folding handle is elegant but one must take care during assembly to understand how it works so that one does not damage it during assembly. There is ample instructional caution on this point. The carrying handle is comfortable and equally handy to carry this lightweight unit folded or unfolded. The folding handle itself doesn't help me with storage and I leave it locked in the unfolded position but if you have a vertically tighter space than I it could be ideal to reduce the height of the stored unit by half. Edging, mowing around sprinkler heads, and over irregular surfaces or buffalo grass hummocks will require repeated passes in more than one direction, other hand tools and patience to achieve a manicured appearance (but these limitations are not unique to this mower). My grass here in the arid West does not have the density I grew up with behind a gasoline mower in the humid South but I would love to try it back there. I think it would still prefer over a gasoline mower for a smooth lawn of less than half an acre frequently cut. I am raking the clippings and I do not know if a grass catcher is available. The blade clearance was perfectly adjusted out of the box cutting a piece of paper as described in the instructions as cleanly and effortlessly as a pair of scissors. Adjustment of cutting blade to blade and cutting height is easy without tools. This unit replaced a Sears Craftsman reel mower. It is half the weight, 3 times the cutting efficiency, much more easily stored, more rugged, far more precisely engineered and pleasant to use.

I have had this installed about a month and it is working great. It dropped a 2-3 minute wait for hot water to a few seconds. I would advise a plumber to help install it. The only reason I did not give it five stars was because it takes several seconds to get cold water from teh cold water side. However, this is the only downside!

I had this same model in my house from seven years ago and was looking for an exact replacement so that I wouldn't have to change the plumbing. While this part was slightly different I was able to leave the original plumbing in place and just screw on the replacement motor. The timer assembly is easier to read than the original. One thing that was different was an additional dial on the body of the pump casing (not shown in the picture). The instructions didn't say what that setting was for so I just left it at the factory setting. Worked ok.

I have used these units in several buildings. The biggest building being an 8 unit building all with 1 bedroom apartments. Each apartment has it own hot water heater.
We have OVER a 60% fail rate. First you do a LOT of electrical work to get to the point of being able to install it. Then you put it in and this what progresses:
- day one works great and you think "what a great idea I had"...
- few weeks or months later it is hot for a minute, then warm, then cold as it runs
- you reset the unit try and test everything, it works ok you think
- get a call a day later it is the same warm then cold then warm showers
- you take it out and return it to the store.
I have replaced 3 yes THREE in one single apartment alone. All in all I bought 8, for an 8 unit building, and have installed either new or replacements 18, in a eight unit building that only has 8 on any given day, at this time. I am a whiz at getting them in and out.
So if you are looking to waste money and a LOT of time as you replace it and try and fix it etc this is for you. These could not even sustain a 1 bedroom with ONE tenant. All my units have a single tenant in them....
I did call the company and they are very nice. The guy I was talking with was a technician on what they called the "pro side" for builders professional etc. I explained everything to him and told him of my fail rate and he said that was possible. So they know of the problem, over 60% fail rate did NOT even phase him, he obviously had heard about this plenty of times before me......

Black & Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower Review

Black and Decker CMM1200 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased this mower and mowed my lawn today. First, the positives:
1. This thing is as-advertised. There's no assembly required other than arranging the mulching bag and removing the mulcher - if that's what you want to do.
2. It was incredibly easy to start this thing - insert key and lift lever.
3. No mess, no gas, no oil, no air filter. The only maintenance described in the service manual is blade sharpening (once to twice per year) and battery replacement. (Possible two years?).
4. Charging the unit is as easy as charging a cell phone and it charged up overnight. It had enough juice to mow my 1/3rd acre lot with heavy spring weeds that were also a little wet without running out of battery juice.
5. It was very easy to clean. Just disconnect the key and then you can turn it over to clean the blade and guard without worrying about oil or gas spilling.
6. It's easy to disconnect handle and mulch bag for storage.
Negatives:
1. Although it's not incredibly heavy, it's not as light as my 5HP gas Craftsman mower. Since there's no self-propelling feature, it can get heavy if you had to go up hills - my lawn is relatively flat so no problem there.
2. The unit is basically plastic. It has a cheap feel to it - although I'm sure it would be too heavy if it was metal.
3. There's really nothing protecting the battery underneath the top cover and it's barely held there with a nylon strap.
4. The paper instruction manual is worthless. It has very little information in it and it's hard to read because one section is written and you have to go to another part of the manual for the pictures.
5. The unit came with Styrofoam inserts that surrounded the battery. I had a very strong feeling that these inserts were for shipping only and must be removed before operating the unit. However, there is nothing in the manual that states this either way and I had to figure it out for myself.
6. There are no instructions for how to replace the battery - you are instructed to take it to a service dealer. Perhaps they could have put more effort into the documentation.
7. The mulching bag doesn't seem to hold much grass. I had to empty it three times before I was done mowing.
All and all, I love this mower. I hated having to jack with gas and oil and filters and maintenance of gas mowers. Plus, this thing is relatively quiet compared to my gas mower. I recommend it.

Bosch AE125 PowerStar 4 GPM Indoor Electric Tankless Water Heater, White Review

Bosch AE125 PowerStar 4 GPM Indoor Electric Tankless Water Heater, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Bosch AE125 Electric Tankless Water Heater 4 months ago and have regretted it. Several considerations should be taken.
First the unit is not an analogue to a conventional tank-type water heater. It delivers hot water based upon a system that measures the incoming water temperature and flow rate and then "calculates" the number of elements (it actually has 6) that it turns on to provide an outflow temperature based on the setting of the temperature control. This system is not satisfactory for a water supply which varies in pressure, SUCH AS A WELL, as the unit itself provides substantial resistance to flow and thus the flow rate through the unit varies and thus the temperature of the outgoing water. This causes the delivered water to vary widely in temperature, from VERY HOT to VERY COLD. The unit would be improved if it was "smart enough" to not only measure incoming temp, but, also, outgoing temperature and flow rate and maintain the outgoing temp at a constant level.
Second: The unit has a flow sensor, which will shut the heaters off at low flow, so, therefore, if you wish to have a small amount of hot water flowing into your sink for shaving purposes, the water will not be heated at all. This "Feature" also has considerable influence on the use of "low flow" faucets.
Third: If you have a home which is heated by electricity and you install this unit, be aware that it consumes 120 AMPS at maximum heat rate. In my case, my electric heat consumes 120 Amps, also; my home has a 200AMP panel. Do the math, turn on the heat to warm the house and then take a bath, and suddenly the entire house is plunged into darkness. I have decided that I must sense when the water heater is turned on and prevent the central heat from coming on. This should be doable, and since the unit only runs when hot water is required, should disable the central heat only for short periods. HOWEVER, this is a feature that should be provided by Bosch and/or their literature should make clear to the potential purchaser that this is a problem with the electric heater.
Fourth: The unit apparently switches one or more of its six elements on or off as it attempts to heat the water. There does not appear to be any partially on for any of the elements. This leads to the problem of "stepped" heating of the water. And because the unit measures flow in and calculates the outgoing rate, if the water is mildly too hot or too cold, simply changing the mix at the faucet does not necessarily result in mild changes in temperature, a tiny change at the faucet can cause one or all of the elements to switch off resulting in a dramatic change at the faucet. AGAIN an argument for sensing the outgoing temperature and maintaining it by modulating the elements for a smoother temperature curve.
I would rate this unit as unsatisfactory for any home with a well, and only marginally acceptable for any home with electric heat (but only if modified as I indicated above).
Had I known then, what I know now, I would have saved myself a lot of money and frustration by purchasing a conventional tank-type water heater.

Brill 78371 Razorcut 38 15-Inch Reel Push Lawn Mower Review

Brill 78371 Razorcut 38 15-Inch Reel Push Lawn Mower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
No more lawnmower fumes and heat in my face.
Cutting my lawn is now very quiet.
My hands are no longer tingle from the vibrations coming from my old gas powered push mower.
Sturdy handle design. This is very important.
Very easy to assemble and use.
Very small footprint, easy to store.
Virtually maintenence free.
Cons:
This mower DOES NOT like tall thick grass. You'll really have to push hard to get it to go through thick grass and will probalby have to go over what you just cut a second time to make the lawn look manicured.
If you fertilize your lawn you'll need to cut it about every other day. Like I said this mower does not like tall thick grass.
If you have any large mature trees in your yard this mower is not for you. You'll spend too much time picking up very small twigs that otherwise will get caught in the mower blades and bring you to a sudden stop.
Little bumps in the lawn have a tendancy to bring the mower to a stop.
Brill could have made cutting high grass easier if this mower was capable of cutting at a higher leangth then what is available.
Other observations:
The size of your lawn doesn't matter as long as it is fairly smooth and not too hilly.
Don't throw away the little metallic strip that comes with the mower. This is your blade gauge and will cost you $10 to replace.
Overall if your in good shape and have patience with this mower you should be okay. The most improtant suggestion I would make is that you hold on to your gas mower to keep your grass under control when rain prevents cutting, otherwise you'll be in for a shoving match with this mower.

The Brill Razorcut 38 is a premium, German engineered reel lawnmower that is perfect for small to medium sized yards. The lawnmower features a cylinder with hardened steel cutting blades, with the spindle mounted on sealed ball bearings so that it spins more easily. Unlike many other reel mowers, the Brill blades use a contact free cutting technology, preventing metal on metal contact and significantly increasing blade life. The silent cut design means that you can hear the environment around you when you mow and not disturb others with engine noise. A top cover protects your flowers and shrubs from the blades, and the extended spoiler in the back helps keep grass clippings from landing on your shoes when you cut the grass. The cutting height is infinitely adjustable from 14 to 45 millimeters (.7 inches to 1.8 inches), with a measuring scale on both sides of the mower. The Razorcut 38 features 5 blades, which is the best number for the balance between ease of pushing and grass cutting ability. Metal components of the Razorcut have a dry powder coat, which resists chipping, scratching and rust. The cutting width is 15.2 inches and the wheels are 8 inch. The Brill Razorcut 38 weighs just 17 pounds, which makes it very easy to pick up, and easy to push through the grass. Other competing reel mowers weigh more than 50 pounds! The Razorcut 38 comes fully assembled, except for the handle. The handle goes together in minutes and snaps onto the mower, with no tools required. The Brill Razorcut 38 works on most types of grass, but is not recommended for St. Augustine, Zoysia or Bermuda. Sunforce 44444 12-Volt 400-Watt Wind Generator Review

Sunforce 44444 12-Volt 400-Watt Wind Generator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, this wind generator's output is preset to 14.1 volts (for charging batteries, you know. The preset can be adjusted from 13 to 17 volts, by the way). 14.1 volts divided into 400 watts is 28 amps, so the specs are correct as stated in the product description. Remember to always keep in mind the differences between 120 volt AC current and 12 to 14 volt DC current -- it's really important on this alternative energy stuff.
Naturally, you are only going to get close to the 400-watt maximum output with a steady 28 mph wind. But the unit won't "go up in smoke" at that point as some reviewer said -- all wind turbines have built in cut-out system that prevent them from going over their rated output and being damanged. C'mon, folks... the people who make these things are not dummies.
But it's true that there are not many places in the world where you get 28 mph winds blowing on a regular, continuous basis. The suggestion of other reviewers to figure on getting maybe a 15 mph average wind speed with output from the wind generator of 50 to 60 watts at 2 to 3 amps is a realistic evaluation of what most people can expect out this or any other small wind turbine on a fairly regular basis. On days when you've got more wind, you luck out and get more power is all.
That's why, for most people, the first alternative power choice is amorphous solar panels (they continue to work on cloudy days and with partial shade) because you can rely on the sun on a day to day basis more than you can on having a good steady wind consistently. The manual for this product states that the blades should start turning in a 7 mph wind, which is just a good breeze. The product manual is *outstanding* by the way, the most complete I've ever seen for any product and indicates the integrity and honesty of the company who makes these units. They obviously want their customers to have success with their product. You can view the manual in PDF format at the Sunforceproducts.com website at:
http://sunforceproducts.com/prodinfo/manuals/AirXManual.pdf
Anyone considering this purchase or looking into wind power in general should thoroughly check out the manual. Wind power can be wonderful in the right location and in many other places it can be *combined* with solar so that you get power from the sun when it's shinning and power from the wind when it's dark (the wind often blows well at night) or when it is really cloudy/stormy (that also usually means good wind).
In this era of everything-is-made-in-China it's great to see a solid product that is price-competitive like this one which is actually made in the USA by Southwest Windpower Inc. of Flagstaff, Arizona. When I get around to adding some wind capability to my existing solar panel setup, this product would be a good choice because a 60-watt solar panel will run you around the same price. So you can add 60 watts of wind for about the same cost as adding 60 watts of solar -- and with a hybrid system you get to take advantage of both alternative technologies. Think outside the oil barrel!

titan Review

I use two of these (single 3/4" line split into both units, then back to single 3/4" line out) as I live in the northeast and have a family of 8. With all three showers (low flow heads), the clothes washer, dishwasher, and the kitchen sink (can't forget the kitchen sink!) going, I had hot water. The units are set to just below medium. My electric use dropped 30% from the 40gal electric unit I had that only gave us about 10 minutes of hot water and we couldn't use multiple showers at the same time. I have had these units since 7/06. I did not have to adjust the temp during the winter. I am very satisfied.

Laing E1 ecocirc Recirculating Pump Review

Laing E1 ecocirc Recirculating Pump

The kitchen sink is on the completely opposite side of our house from the water heater. It seemingly took forever for any hot water to get there. Now there is warm water instantly and hot water is just seconds behind. It has been extremely nice this winter, avoiding freezing water from the tap.
Cheaper recirculating pumps utilize a a plastic valve under the sink that will wear out and need replacement. The body of the valve in this pump is brass and looks like it will last for a very long time.

The auto circpump is installed under the sink or faucet farthest from the water heater - wherehot water usually takes the longest amount of time to arrive. A built-in temperature sensor automatically turns the autocirc pump on when the watertemperature in the hot water supply line cools down to 85º F. This cool water in the hot water supplyline is then pumped into the cold water line and back into the water heater. The autocirc pump turns off automatically when the hot water supply line to the faucet reaches a temperature of 95º F, ensuring the instant availability of shower warm water with maximum temperature hot water only seconds behind. When the pump is automatically turned off by the built-in thermostat, an auto closure device prevents hot or cold water from mixing in either supply line.Another beneficial feature is that hot water will also be instantly available at all other faucets in the supply line between the water heater and the faucet where the autocirc pump is installed.
