(More customer reviews)Installed this pump in three steps. First, installed a 115-volt outlet under the sink that was farthest from the water heater, a distance of about 50 feet. There were three other sinks and two showers all hooked to the hot water pipe that ran between this farthest sink and the water heater. Second, I insulated the hot water pipes leading from the water heater to this farthest sink. Most of these hot water pipes were located in a suspended ceiling. If the pipes were in a wall, I ignored trying to insulate them, figuring the wall was enough insulation. Third, I installed the pump under the sink. I set the timer to operate whenever I plan on using hot water in any of the sinks (i.e., 0600-2400). I have had the pump installed for about a year and appreciate it every day. When the water at the sink cools to 85 degrees, the pump cycles "on." When the water temperature reaches 95 degrees at the sink, the pump cycles "off." The water from the hot water side gets pumped to the cold water side so that the cold water is about 90 degrees, but that water cools rapidly. When the cold water faucet is turned "on," the cooler water quickly gets to the faucet. This pump is perfect for my needs.

It can be heavy when completely filled but manuverable. The pump and hose is perfect for dispensing and siphoning fuel back in the tank. It is a great investment and should last a long time.

Laing SMT-303-BSW Low Flow Circulator Pump with Line Cord and Timer Review

(More customer reviews)I had this same model in my house from seven years ago and was looking for an exact replacement so that I wouldn't have to change the plumbing. While this part was slightly different I was able to leave the original plumbing in place and just screw on the replacement motor. The timer assembly is easier to read than the original. One thing that was different was an additional dial on the body of the pump casing (not shown in the picture). The instructions didn't say what that setting was for so I just left it at the factory setting. Worked ok.

LTA-1-ABC HARTELL DIRECT MOUNT SINK, Automatic laundry tray pump w/8 foot cord & plug Review

(More customer reviews)This was a direct replacement of the same type pump that quit working after many years of use. I looked into replacing the pump with one that has the waste water drain into a "box" which contains a pump - however that requires the installation of a vent pipe - vented to the outside - which was an unworkable option in my case. So I went with the direct replacement. I was impressed that the new pump came with most of the PVC fittings I needed to install it including the checkvalve and a 1/4 turn shutoff. The 1/4 shutoff is especially important because not only does it allow you to shut off any drain water back filling to the pump in the event you need to remove/replace it, but because you use the valve to "trim" the backpressure on the pump so that it doesn't cycle on and off continuously. My previous installation didn't have this and I believe it contributed to the pump eventually failing. Additionally the "kit" included a steel "strainer" that fits into the drain throat of the washbasin to catch larger debris to keep it from getting into the impellor. I recommend you pick up a PVC coupling / fitting before you install it, and then put it at the end of a 2 or 3" piece of PVC connected to the pump outlet and then put all the other hardware (check valve, shutoff valve etc) over on the other side of the coupling. That way if you have to take the pump off again in the future you can do so without having to hacksaw through the PVC pipe and then buy new hardware and fittings and cement it all back together again - instead you should loosen the coupling and then you can take the pump off by itself and then spin out the threaded fitting from the pump outlet.

Hayward SP322063EEV TriStar 2.7-Thrust-Horsepower 3-Phase Energy Efficient Pool Pump Review

(More customer reviews)While I loved the idea of going Green and using less electricity, in reality it falls apart. We have a Hayward salt system and Solar on our pool and in order to push that much water up to the roof to warm the pool the pump has to run at 85 - 100%. Our old pump was 2HP and worked great but at 100% on the Tristar you are running 2.7HP so we are probably using more energy to do the same work our 2HP pump did. I have tried it at 85% but it doesn't appear to be able to pass enough water through the Solar to really warm the pool as fast as the old pump, so 100% for eight hours is required until the pool is warm enough. I live in Vegas so by July the pool is typically very pleasant without solar. Guess I will save my money after that. Your mileage may vary - maybe our piping is not great but the pool is only seven years old - but to save money you need to run at 35 - 45% and that simply wont push the water.
Bottom line - if you don't have Solar and/or don't have a salt system, go for it. If you do, don't believe the salesman. I must have asked four times if 45% of 2.7HP was enough to run the solar and always got a "yes sir". On the plus side, it is VERY quiet (only reason I gave it 2 stars).

I dropped my review to one star. The quietness of the pump was why I gave it two but after two years of dealing with this, it doesn't deserve it. I honestly can not get over how much I HATE this system. If you buy one, you are insane. Something as simple as heating the hot tub, then turning off the pump so the kids can play without "bubbles" is IMPOSSIBLE with this pump. With my old pump, I simply turned off the switch. With this one, you have to completely reprogram it which would goof up your daytime program. If you turn the power off, it loses its programming and you have to spend an hour trying to figure it out again. This is the most user unfriendly "thing" I have in my life right now, and my power bills in the winter are $150.00 more than two years ago when I could simply set my clock to only run for 2 - 3 hours. To do that with this unit you have to completely reprogram it and that is such a non-intuitive chore that you never find time to do it. I wish I would not have sold my old pump. I would put it back in place and throw this piece of junk in the garbage. I wouldn't even sell it because I wouldn't wish this system on my worst enemy. Hayward has FAILED miserably with this system. DO NOT BUY IT.

You have to provide your own wires to plug it in, which is a 15 minute job. I use it daily in the summer, and run it between 8-12 hours per day....so this pump/motor will hold up. It is rebuidlable, and I will do that, but am buying another because it is quicker and am not sure of extent of items that are wore out

Pentair 011013 IntelliFlo VS 3050 High-Performance Pool Pump Review

(More customer reviews)When we bought our house, we knew ahead of time that the existing (2.5HP) pump was on its last legs. Sure enough, when we did the final inspection on the day of closing, the old pump had blown the circuit breaker, and our new neighbor told us it had been making a horrific noise for the past couple of days.
I ordered the VS3050 from Amazon because it was eligible for Amazon Prime (!!) and so I was able to get it delivered quickly. We had also considered the SVRS model, but after checking the pool drain configuration (minimum of 2 drains in both pool and spa, at least 4 feet apart) we felt we could save some money with the VS-3050.
We did the installation ourselves with little trouble. The manual and a sticker indicate that when attaching the inlet and outlets, you should go only one turn past hand tight, in our experience it needed a little more to prevent leaking, but that may have been due to our PVC. We were able to re-use the wiring from the pump we removed, so there was no electric work to speak of. We don't have an automation system right now so we just placed the included control cable in storage.
This pump is incredibly quiet. The only sound you hear is the fan (which cools the motor). At its highest speed, you'll also hear water moving through the pipes - but the motor is unbelievably quiet. Our pump is about 6 feet off of our lanai, and we don't hear it at all - only when the water begins flowing over the waterfall on the spa do we realize the pump is on. It is far more energy efficient than the pump it replaced, checking the amperage at the box it seems to use about 45% of the power the old one used at roughly the same GPM. The control panel is very easy to use, and the unit seems very well built - I anticipate it being many years before we have to replace anything on this.
I'd done a lot of research before picking the Pentair IntelliFlo series. Some of my friends thought I was nuts for spending this kind of cash on a pool pump (a new, standard 2.5HP can be had for a bit more than half the price of the VS3050) but seeing it in action, I'm very comfortable with my purchase. Highly recommended!

(More customer reviews)I have used this product for the past 3 1/2 years. I am not happy with it in the least. The first unit began leaking after 1.5 years. The manufacturer warrantied it and I installed its replacement. The replacement now has began leaking and has fried the electronic board after 2 years and 3 months. This is supposed to be a really good brand, and when it was working it was fine, but it simply is a poor design to have the electronics placed on the unit. Water finds a way to reek havoc, and it will do so on your unit if you buy this. Shame on Pentair for not standing by their product when the design is truly flawed and inferior.

(More customer reviews)The kitchen sink is on the completely opposite side of our house from the water heater. It seemingly took forever for any hot water to get there. Now there is warm water instantly and hot water is just seconds behind. It has been extremely nice this winter, avoiding freezing water from the tap.
Cheaper recirculating pumps utilize a a plastic valve under the sink that will wear out and need replacement. The body of the valve in this pump is brass and looks like it will last for a very long time.

While the filter worked well, the pump never seemed to move the pool cleaner systems around the pool right. We tried a few different systems the Kreepy Krawley, the Barracuda etc, and I finally thought that I should get the Hayward and that might work better with the Hayward pump? It was the best at cleaning the pool floor, but was the worst yet with the walls. Finally this summer, the pump completely siezed up and after several tries at repairs, I gave up and decided to by a new pump. I considered just getting a new motor, but I had a thought, that "what If the pump is just the wrong one?"
I have a pretty large pool for a back yard pool, and the max flow pump was a 3/4 hp which seemed like not enough, so after considering volume and distance, I decided on the Super Pump 1 1/2 hp. It was a very simple switch, just two wires,(and a ground wire of course) and the plumbing was an exact match.
Now my Hayward pool vac system literally flies around the pool, and does the work in much less than half the time it would have taken before and goes into every inch of the surface sides and bottom.
I wish I would have bought it sooner.

Flotec FP5172 1-1/2 HP Self-Priming High Capacity Sprinkler Pump Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this to replace a failed sprinkler pump (motor rusted out completely - pump was probably still good). Really was looking for a more efficient pump but couldn't find one. This one appeared to be the exact same as the old Flotec but the new housing is plastic. Motor looks to be better protected against corrosion anyway. The thing was about 1 inch taller than before so I had to cut the feed pipe and install a splice which was a nuisance.
Seems to work OK. Maybe a bit more powerful than the old one but also seems a bit louder. Lowes had one a bit cheaper but last time I bought a pump from them my lawn guy said it was junk and it didn't last a year. This last one (Flotec) lasted about 8 years which is not too bad considering the salt in the air where we live rusts everything.
